Lāhainā Jodo Mission reviews
14 My fiancé and I walked here on our way to the beach. Please leave a donation when you enter and be respectful.
It was beautiful, peaceful, and the pamphlet was helpful and educational. On Thursdays they have a farmers market (every second and 4th Thursday). We managed to be in town during one. We got the best cookies I have ever tasted (I am a former baker and truly the best) made locally. Love music and lots of fun trinkets and food.
It is really unexpected hidden gem that we found in Maui.
The pagoda bring me back to Japan. The Buddha architecture is huge. It is one of the largest outside of Japan.
Admission is free.
Parking is outside of the temple. Shared with public beach.
Very peaceful when we went first thing in the morning. Pretty statues, pagoda & temple but not much more to it - can't complain though! Left offering as thanks. Nice beach right next door.
A beautiful Serene environment with which to pray. Where I worship during covid. By myself.:)
A short walk from the beach, the Buddha pagoda and statue were quite nice. The atmosphere is quiet and serene. Good for some peace and quiet and also some meditation if you will. The place has a spiritual aura to it. If you're in the area, it's worth to make a stop here.
The 12 foot tall copper and bronze statue of Amida Buddha is the largest of its kind located outside of Japan. It was completed in June 1968 as commemorative project for the Centennial Celebration of the first Japanese immigrants to arrive in Hawaii.
The largest Buddha statue outside of Japan is something to see. The grounds are beautiful. It was very peaceful there. A good place to go for some quiet contemplation.
This is our second visit in the last 11 years.the grounds are serene, quiet, and spiritual. The Buddha is just as we remembered, as is the bell
tower. I rang it 5 times, then 3 more.and a worker on the grounds clapped happily. Looking at the brochure, ringing the bell 8 times represent the Eight-Fold Pathway to Righteousness. I wasn’t aware of this! If your staying in Lahaina, It’s worth the visit. There are several other structures worth the look. This mission was established for the Japanese immigrants that came here in 1912 to work in the sugar and pineapple fields. It was rebuilt in 1968 after fire.
This is a place that is beautiful depending on when the trees are blooming and even when they're not. Very Serene beautiful place to visit
Wish it was a bit more welcoming as I would have loved to go inside and mediate. There was a lot of signs for no people for public beach access and I wasn’t sure if that meant it was not open for the public or just the people who were intending to go to the beach. I still got some great pictures, the architecture is amazing! I meditated in the grave yard instead and had a powerful connection.
I’m not a religious person or a Buddhist, but this place felt sacred. Everyone was respectful and quiet filled the area. It was a nice feeling and welcoming.
Interesting historic point for passers by. Not much material to read, or in particularly good shape
This Japanese Buddhism pagoda is so beautiful, you can find your peace from your heart deep within, time kinda stopped when you standing and enjoy the in-time, good for meditation and a short walk from the beach access.
Stopped by the bi-monthly Farmer's Market. Beautifully maintained grounds with a welcoming community of vendors, artists and people in general. Stop here for some local, affordable produce, products, eats and live entertainment.
The area with the statue and pagoda were very serene and peaceful. You wouldn't know there was a beach full of playing children just on the other side of it.
The statue is very impressive. The grounds had a place to sit so we meditated for a few minutes. It was very nice.
The grounds have space for parking so long as you are not going to the beach. The beach-goers were respecting that.
