Pahoa Animal Hospital, Pāhoa HI

We sought out Pahoa Animal Hospital about two years or so ago on an emergency visit. Our Veterinarian at the time was located in Kohala. The staff and Veterinarians were so kind and professional. Our fur boy got taken cared of in the right way! Our fur babies have increased and we have kept our medical relationship with them growing too. From wellness care, emergency telephone care, whelping, puppies, infections, vaccinations, physical therapy, laser therapy, science and naturopathic care. Shelly and Pua and the front staff have always been patient and tried their best to accommodate. Dr. Kimi and Dr Lei have been the Veterinarians that we have had most contact with for our fur babies. They and their Vet Techs are just great! Professional, smart, patient (especially when we fur parents are in stress mode LOL) and compassionate. They are great listeners and give the fur babies the best possible care! There are also other Veterinarians available and many more services too much to mention! We live about an hour away and it is most worth it to us to travel to have the great care that our fur babies are given at Pahoa Animal Hospital.

These people are angels. We took our 12 year old pit bull baby to see Dr. Bill after she was diagnosed, by another doctor, with a large Splenic Mass in her abdomen. This other doctor told us there was nothing we could do and she would die - soon. We couldn't just take that opinion so we scheduled an emergency appointment at the then new Pahoa Animal Hospital. Dr. Bill had experience with this condition and scheduled us for surgery the very next business day. She was in surgery for under an hour and they expertly and successfully removed a 12 lb mass and she has been living happily ever since (its been over a year). They were so incredibly thorough through every aspect of our experience with them. When it was all over, they sent parts of the mass to different labs to test for cancer - and found none. Everyone at Pahoa Animal Hospital is wonderful. They all truly care for our fur babies and it shows in every interaction. Prices are reasonable and they can always get you in if you have an emergency - that will cost you a bit extra but they're seriously the only place in the east side you can even get an emergency appointment. We are so deeply grateful for these wonderful humans and we just can't say enough good things about them.

Amazing staff and veterinary care! Everyone at Pahoa Animal Hospital is compassionate, efficient, and incredibly kind. Extremely clean and well managed. Highly recommend for anyone with a loved fur ball.

New, clean, modern, fully staffed, so professionally run they're almost out of place here! A few months after they moved in one of the staff told me they had a new customer waiting list 17 pages long.so yeah.this is the place for your little furry buddy, if you can get in.

We’ve been with Pāhoa Animal Hospital for a year. The staff and vets at this Veterinary Clinic are the best.

We're incredibly fortunate to have Pahoa Animal Hospital! Though I've been happy with other vets I used to go to in Hilo, but at all of them no matter what time my appointments have been I end up waiting up to an hour to be seen. That's simply not the case here. Everyone is very friendly, they communicate clearly, and also make clear they can approve prescriptions filled by other pharmacies, unlike other vets which refuse to do so with the BS argument that licensed online pharmacies can't be trusted.
My dog had a relatively minor surgical procedure and they called the next day to make sure she was ok. I've never had ANY vet ever do that for my previous dogs even with much more serious surgeries. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Highly recommend Pahoa animal hospital to anyone in need of great veterinary care! They truly care about your animals! They also care about your budget! They will work with you to provide the best care for your pets according to your finances! They even provided me free eye ointment for my kittens! So thankful for everything they did!

If I could leave less than one star I would. Had an emergency and no one is available. No referral nothing. I am a client there and could not even see my dog for three days. Don't waste your time. My dog will not be alive in three days without seeing a vet.

So sad we have moved, we miss Shelly and the rest of the staff. This office actually cares about you and your pets. ️

Over a month to get an appointment! I was one of the first customers when they were new. They Used to offer a 35 dollar additional fee to be seen same day.

Edit: the Dr.called me to make sure my cat was ok. I really appreciate that kind of dedication. I trust this animal hospital and am impressed by the care my kitty received. ‍

This was sort of a special circumstance, however, my cat whom had major surgery with their Dr.needed his follow up visit and to have his stitches removed. They would not put him on the schedule in a reasonable time frame or let him see Dr.
Major surgery warrants a follow up and stitches can become ingrown.

Our vet techs and Dr.were both kind and efficient. Lucy gives them a big two paws up (she would have given more but then she would have fallen over) seriously though thanks for making a older blind dog so comfy during an unfun thing for her.

We found a badly injured and sick kitten along the road. The girl on the phone acted like it wasn't really an issue, and that it didn't matter the kitten was injured or sick. Seemed kind of jaded. We found another vet to look at the kitten and get him fixed up.
It was just strange to call a vet about a sick animal, and the girl didn't seem to care. Odd.

Needed to get my cat into see Dr Maloney because of a concern regarding post surgery. They got us in and addressed our concerns quickly and Baloo is now back home doing fine. Fantastic customer service!

I have been taking my cats to the Pahoa Animal Hospital ever since they opened. They know me and my cats by name even though we haven’t been in that often. I have always found the staff here to be very friendly and helpful. It is extremely difficult to find good veterinary care on this island and I am so grateful for this place. They have helped me make very difficult decisions about several of my fur babies and were there with me every moment when I had to put a few of them to sleep. They took my cats in the next day when I called them to let them know they likely had a URI and they knew it wasn’t something that could wait, so they made time for us. I have always gotten excellent care here. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Took both dogs for heart worm check and their shots. Our dogs are anxious around new people as especially so at the vet. Everyone was extremely understanding and helpful. Their skill and warm-hearted approach are deeply appreciated.
