Pono Market reviews
15This market and its employees epitomize why Hawaii not only serves the best food, but how it should be delivered. From Uncle opening the door for everyone, to the Amazing smiles and incredible friendly service at yhe food counter and register. Pono market will not only satiate your appetite, but satisfy your longing to BELONG. Aloha kakou Pono Market! Thanks for helping this local boy feel welcome and a part of your ohana.
Graciously recommended by a friend. Eat poke here. You won't regret it. To-go only- go sit on the beach and enjoy some of the best poke you've ever had!
Such an eclectic group of businesses in downtown Kapaa. Spent the day checking out most of them and interacting with the staff who I must say, were all so wonderful and helpful.
Highly recommend multiple visits to each of the businesses. Loved it!
Came here from the good reviews. The fried chicken was overcooked and sitting in the warmer for a while, poke was okay, and pork lau lau wasn’t bad. What really is upsetting is that we took the takeout container outside, ate the food out front while waiting out the rain, no garbage bin around, and other local restos had signs that it was their own garbage only. Trying to go back inside, the lady guarding the door wouldn’t let me back in to throw the garbage away. So you want us to litter or find another spot to throw away the garbage? If we buy from you, we throw the trash away with you. Whats up with that? Maybe something to consider when all we’re trying to do is be respectful to this beautiful island and keep it clean.
Gauged us here!? The poke is great, but the price gauging for us visitors was not? !
Won’t be coming back here ever because of this. ($$$106.00). For two Lau laus and two spicy pikes, one water…really?
Pono market use to be our first stop
Just ate there, & it was incredible! You need to try their food.
Multiple locals recommend it to us, & the line out the door was a great sign. And everything was so much better than we expected! Both the pork & the chicken laulau were delicious, & traditional Hawaii’n. The poke & ahi were so fresh, & the Mac salad & Shepards pie were mouth watering.
The five of us loved / inhaled everything, & just wished we ate there sooner. We loved the family run Pono Market! Thanks you!
Grabbed a bunch of poke to go, and they were so delicious that we had to go back to get more. I find their price point fairly reasonable as well. Personally love the sesame oil scallop, gochujang taco/octopus, spicy ahi, and pickled mango. The shoyu ahi was way too salty for me. The octopus is surprisingly tender, not boiled hard.
I actually went to the Pono coffee shop every day for coffee. I think they are connected. The cafe had wonderful pastries breakfast food and desserts. My favorite place to go for coffee.
Been craving spicy ahi tuna poke, this place hit the spot! I was so full but I just kept eating lol. Definitely coming back to kauai and hitting pono market again (:
The best gem.don't miss their musubi and chicken bento. It was too good I didn't get a picture
Unfortunately, we arrived at 1pm when they had sold out of almost everything. The poke was great, the potato-mac salad was divine. They staff here was so friendly and welcoming. Despite having almost no food left when we arrived they offered some ideas of what we could do to make a meal out of what was available. Go here, the food we were able to try was awesome, just go early to get what you want. I will definitely be returning when we come back to Kauai.
Wish we had tried more food. We grabbed some Mac salad and the strawberry jello cheesecake for just a quick bite. Both were delicious!
Love, love, love Pono. Great grab and go meals, plate specials, and poke. Need to plan as they keep workday hours to support the community and will close during local spring break/Christmas break/ etc.
Do yourself a favor and get stuff to go and then enjoy Kauai’s beautiful outdoors vs sitting in a restaurant and most likely getting played on some overpriced under-seasoned “local” specialty.
Great food! Got the Huna plate, with Poke and chicken Lau Lau, can’t go wrong! Real traditional Hawaiian food for sure, friendly as well!
