Newly renovated, but same high quality family owned Japanese restaurant. Excellent sushi, sashimi and chirashi bowls.

It's been a few years since I've been to this place. I was lucky enough to go for lunch when I've usually had dinner. The kid got out of school early so we both dined in.
We did not have reservations, but we were able to get a table outside. I did like that they had shade so the sun was not beaming on us. I would recommend having some Japanese music played in the background so you wouldn't have to hear the street noise. But after a while we didn't really notice it. And I ordered the salmon donburi $17.99. Yes you can get a salmon poke bowl for cheaper somewhere else. And the kid got the ribeye bento $18.99. Each meal comes with miso soup and salad. The kid devoured her meat saying it was soft as butter. And opted out of the vegetables. I tasted her vegetables and they were delicious. My salmon Donburi was delicious as well. Thick cuts that I wished had more! We ended with the Matcha ice cream which was extremely creamy and did not melt too fast. Considering I have hardly eaten out during Covid, it was nice to eat peacefully with my kid for lunch and not feel rushed.

There is limited parking in the back that you enter from King Street. Parking was full but we were able to find metered parking. We came on a Wednesday afternoon at 12 PM and it was full inside. It's nice to know that restaurants are doing well during these times. They do check for your vaccination card and take temps. Service was prompt and often considering that we sat outside along with one other couple.

Small and comfortable place in the middle of town. The quality of food and beverages is well worth the price. The service is exceptional and very attentive, but not overbearing. I love this place and will return when i want some great japanese food

Take out is not that good, eating in the restaurant is a better choice. Better to eat in the restaurant then to take out.

Washu steak, spicy tuna roll, and mixed tempura plate were all amazing. Great service, food, nostalgic Japanese restaurant vibes. Make sure to visit!

Yesterday yesterday was the 1st time I've been back there back there since they 1st opened. It wasn't good back then, but I was pleasantly surprised At the improvement that was made over years.

Probably one of the best miso butter fish bento I've had in a long time! Now I know where I can get good miso butterfish!

As an out of towner, I was looking for a place with great food and none of the crowds and hype of some of the trendier locations, and so picked this place for dinner. I'm so glad I did!

The food was wonderful! I ordered the hearts of palm tempura, which was a new dish for me. It's served with a small bowl of salt flakes to dip in rather than a standard tempura sauce, and it was exceptional. I now have a new favorite tempura.

For the main course, I ordered the Chirashi, which was very well prepared. The quality of the fish was excellent, the rice was perfectly prepared, and the Wasabi was very fresh, and seemed like it may have been freshly grated, not the standard green paste from a squeeze tube.

The atmosphere was calm and friendly, a great place for a family meal.

The next time I'm back in Honolulu, I'll be dining here again!

Great hidden gem off the beaten path. Worth the walk/drive from the resort areas to get some of the best Sashimi I have ever had. Exceptional service and exceptional value. Will definitely return on this trip and looking forward to eating there again!

Limited “a la carte” overpriced menu, will not back. Previous restaurant with the same name and site had delicious reasonable menu which was complimentary well with good ambience and service. We had been there a few times. We were four people, all of us felt cheated and had the same opinions.

A lot of the food is made in house from scratch. You can really tell how much preparation goes into the dishes, and everything I had was delicious. We ordered many different items from sushi rolls, sashimi, ribeye steak, bacon, butterfish, and it was all amazing. Our server Daniel was incredibly knowledgeable and walked us through the entire experience. Would definitely come again.

Food was mediocre. I ordered nigiri and it was the last thing to come over cooked food. I would expect good food for the price I paid.

-uni, market price from Russia.
-Ikura, was super hard to pop.
-scallops, texture was off was like eating jello
-renkon cheese, disgusting complete gimmick
-mushiawabi dashijure, another gimmick complete waste of money.

I would straight up not recommend this place.

Reasonable. Ambience looks like Japan. Had Omurice on the menu. I had that in Japan the 2 years I was stationed there
67 years ago. Only $12. Not even close to Japan. The egg had no taste because it is diluted with corn starch. Looks like Loco moco sans hamburger. Zippys Loco moco is $11.45. I was very impressed at first. I odered the butter fish that my friend had for take out. Took 3 pictures of our dishes to send to my wife. It was $23.00. When I went home I found that my wife's butter fish had 2 items missing.
Salmon sashimi and clams and was charged $27.00. I called the manager and was told it was done deliberately because the miso butter fish was larger than dining in. I beg to differ. If this were the case why was I not informed by the waitress? For $27 there are many Japanese restaurants with a better deal especially bento boxes. I have found only one Japanese restaurant in Hawaii that serves authentic Japanese food. The rest are too local and too sweet.
My friends were impressed. I was at first and was eager to bring my wife. You pay for what you get. I would go back and try the rib eye steak for $16. Lunch is reasonable but dinner menu more costly. Others may rave about this restaurant. Very subjective. I am very easy to please. Never posted on Yelp.

Good lunch set menu to chose from.

We ordered Chicken Nanban set, Salmon/Ikura don and Veg Tenpura. Tenpura and Nanban were good, but I found the Salmon/Ikura to be tasteless to my palate. This is just my personal opinion, so less one star.

High quality Japanese food, highly recommend the grilled squid which comes with grilled wedge of cabbage and a miso aioli sauce.it’s excellent. It’s served on a hot iron skillet that keeps the cabbage and squid at a perfect temperature. Excellent sushi/chirashi, and green tea ice cream too. Very clean and modern Japanese decor. The staff is super attentive and provide top notch customer service.
