Statue of King Kamehameha reviews
12The most interesting stop for us. Good signage, some very detailed. There are restrooms behind the building.
Good day trip. The history is interesting. We found a Hawaiian BBQ place that had Lomo Loco, yum!
Nice short stop in North Kohala.
Pretty grounds, nicely kept public bathrooms, and the statue is pretty darn impressive!
This was an Honor to visit, The history is rich here you only have to feel it! I love exploring the Big Island - I feel for its people and all that was robbed from them - If we could turn back time.but we can not. Sadly - Hawaii and its 1 kind that brought the Islands together.and I feel if he was here today he would bring it back to his people!
It’s exactly same stair as in Hilo courthouse as ship transporting it originally was sunk but captain found it and brought it back
Original statue of King Kamehameha I. Commissioned for Honolulu, it was lost at sea and a replica was installed there. When the original was found, it was sent to Kapaau, the King's birthplace. Every June 11th, it is decorated in leis and a parade is held.
We don’t really have any plans to come up here but we ended doing it because it was a little windy that day. I’m actually really glad we came up here and saw the statue. It’s a cool landmark for you to come visit. I’m not saying you’re gonna spend the whole day here but you could spend a little bit of time and check it out. There’s some great information on the king here and what he did for the Hawaiian people. There’s also a great area if you wanna have a picnic lunch. This place is located right next to the police station
Really neat to know that statue was recovered from the ocean. Then placed in the town where it should have been going in the first place.haha
Neat little roadside stop to learn a bit about the history of King Kamehameha and have a picnic.
The Original statue “lost at sea and retrieved from Falkland island and returned to Hawaii “ but the 2nd commissioned statue of the King had already been erected at Aliilani Hale in Honolulu so this 1st commissioned Statue of Hawaii’s 1st King was erected closer to his birthplace!
America needs more statues of the indigenous leaders that shaped this world. Reverent statue worth seeing on the way to the Poloulu Valley. Also the shops across the street are fantastic.
Since King Kamehameha is the most popular Hawaiian king, it's not difficult to find and see his statue from different Hawaiian island. But, this is the original statue of King Kamehameha. On the way to Polulu valley, you may stop by here to see the original one. You could feel and experience how this king lived before if you visit Hawi where this statue stands.
