Tanaka of Tokyo Central, Honolulu HI

Tanaka has always been a fabulous experience. My family has been here 8-10 times and recently returned after moving off island three years prior. We had a group of 9 people with three kids and it was as amazing as ever. Anthony was an incredible host and chef. He made each of the children laugh and smile on multiple occasions. AND they ate everything. Thanks again Tanaka for being consistently great.

We were kicked out because we looked to sexy! So sad. We were here for my friends bday. And a gentleman at the bar didn't like that we turned him down. He got us kicked out. Watch our sexy looking girls!

Very family friendly. Keiki meal (kids meal) is a really good portion. Servers are friendly and its very entertaining. Make sure to make a reservation as it gets busy all days of the week.

Food was good but Austin was the star of the show. Best hibachi cook I've ever had. Super fun, entertaining, he deserves a raise.

Highly entertaining, excellent service and plenty of brilliantly cooked food. Joseph was brilliant as our chef and Travis as our waiter made sure everything was refilled and ready to go. A thoroughly worthwhile evening, highly recommend

Hibachi/Teppanyaki styles are popular in the US but in Hawai'i they are built to appeal to the Japanese tourist which brings a lot of fresh flavors into the mix you simply won't find in a suburban Hibachi restaurant in the US. Tanaka of Tokyo is a Waikiki classic and the interior and ambiance are incredible as well. Highly recommended!

Even though I made a reservation, I had to wait for about an hour to be seated. There are so many people waiting at the entrance of the store that it's hard to fit inside. There are many people who are irritated by having to wait too long and argue with the shop staff. When a certain number of seats in front of the chef become available, several groups will be guided together. It's not a family affair, so we have to wait quite a while. The taste was delicious, but the ingredients were scattered during the performance, so it wasn't very sanitary. I probably won't go again

Booking at same name restaurants within 7 minutes of each other can cause issues.

But after literally sprinting to the correct location, "too late", they got us in 30min after our original reservation.

Salad BONZAI GINGER dressing is horrid.

Chefs, please be loud and proud, not timid and quiet.

Other than that awesome so far!

And chef, oh myleord, be sure when my wife has a birthday that was announced to at least ask us If we'd like dessert, or say happy bday as you leave.

Great young man though, just needs some confidence and some training, really kind soul, good young man.

Price was awesome regardless.

Tanaka of Tokyo Central was excellent. We enjoyed our meal. The chef was funny and cooked our meal excellent. We were extremely satisfied sharing our 25th anniversary with you!

We told 4 people at the restaurant that we were celebrating our son's birthday and were told it would be handled. We tipped well over 25% to our waiter but after he finished cleaning the grill, he never came back! His name was Enzo and my son was so upset. The manager was informed but it was too late, our whole table left and they just said sorry.

Stopped by on a whim over a year ago and had a great time. Chef was incredibly friendly and had great conversation, and food was excellent.

Wish separate checks were distributed per couple. Only allowed 2 checks per 15 people. Had to stay an extra hour to figure out the bill per couple. We were to eat, not to do the math for the restaurant.

Not only will they grill Teppanyaki right in front of you,
It's fun to use knives and forks when grilling.
It is recommended as it has a variety of menus and courses that can be eaten at reasonable prices.

Took my wife and daughter for my wife's bday. We had a great time. Our chef name was Cyrus, super fun and entertaining food was good and bathrooms were clean. Stuff all super friendly.

I found a vegetable that can be eaten as much as bean sprouts ^^

The food was great, the atmosphere was great, and the kids were happy, so it was great.
After the meal, for some reason, my photo was taken, and I was surprised when I was told that it would cost $20 for one photo and $45 for three photos.
At least they asked me to confirm and let me know the price before I took the photo.
Also, it was best to take photos during or before meals.

Great experience and food. Hawaii in general is awesome, but this restaurant makes Hawaii better.
