Village Snack Shop & Bakery reviews
15You know it's good when an EMT who frequents here happily endorsed the food! We got the Chilipepper Fried Chicken. So tender and juicy and sweet and spicy, much better than another place we tried with the same dish! The lady who works here was also very kind and a joy to speak with.
The lady was very friendly. Service was fast. Food was great! We enjoyed the fried chicken and the garlic chicken.
This review is for the haupia pies. We searched far and wide for chocolate haupia pie on the island, and they have it. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as Ted's, but this still fell short in a lot of ways. The crust, which was described as shortbread in some reviews, isn't shortbread. Shortcrust, perhaps, but very tough and obscenely thick. Not dry, at least. Thick layer of haupia, thin layer of chocolate cream pie. Sad because it totally throws the flavor profile out of balance. Too much straight coconut and cream flavor and not enough deepness from the chocolate to cut it, especially with the additional whipped topping. Worth it to get a chocolate haupia pie, but still leaves one wanting quite a bit more from it. The malasadas were also chewy to the point of almost not being possible to tear off, and they lacked enough salt.
Honestly perfect. A cute little local spot that has delicious basic Hawaiian breakfast and lunch plates. Loved it!
The restaurant bakery sign doesn't match that they make and serve mainly sandwiches. Our group of 4 thought each preparation very good.
Although it isn't much to look at, the breakfast here was delicious. When all the other spots were an hour wait we got right into here with no problems. I'm guessing largely due not being in plain sight from the road.
Delicious masubi, apple pie was fabulous and home made fresh. Cornbread and burgers very fresh. Friendly service and great prices! Everything else in Hanalei is so expensive, but this place has delicious, fresh, homemade food for very good prices. We will be back! Highly recommend!
Long wait, apathetic staff, inedible food. Prices were low, but you get what you pay for. We ordered veggie burgers with side of Mac salad. After a 20-minute wait, the food came out. The burger patties were undercooked, tasted terrible and had the texture of raw beef. The Mac salad (that was $4 extra) came in a tiny portion (about 1/4 cup to the scoop) was flavorless. The salad had zero seasoning, was just pasta, potatoes, shredded carrot and Mayo. I ended up throwing my meal out entirely, it was completely inedible—I rarely throw out food, but this was just that bad.
At one point, we went to check on our food and the two employees were standing behind the counter, both eating from a container of pie, which is not really a hygienic thing to take place in a restaurant.
Terrible. Their food is sub-par, ingredients are low quality and everything we tried was flavorless. They nickel and dime for every little thing, too. You want an extra fork? 25 cents. There are plenty of other options nearby, I’d recommend anywhere else over this place, it was so disappointing.
We got a club sandwich and it was pretty delicious. It did take forever to get the sandwich though, like 15-20 minutes for a small club. The whole building is pretty bare with the minimum.
All in all, would go again for a sandwich or call it in.
Nice little shop with breakfast. I got a second loaf of macadamia, banana nut bread, along with a couple tasty fried sugar coated bread. My wife really enjoyed Her basic breakfast that included bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast.
Found this place on Yelp when I was looking for local grindz in Princeville. It's a hole in the wall within the shopping center. Park by Big Save and go through the walkway and you will see outdoor tables and a pizza place across from it.
We came here daily (closed Wednesday) to get our musubi fix. They open at 7: 30 am but not necessarily. We had to leave due to an excursion on the other side of the island and it looked close at 7: 40am. So if you are on a time crunch, best go after 8am. And they close early, I believe just breakfast and lunch hours. That's it so plan accordingly.
Their musubis sell out fast and its limited supply. They recommend you call day before if ordering more than 6.
This is one of the best musubi we have had. The egg spam one is my favorite. Reminds me of manapua truck days?
If you're visiting Hanalei or North Shore area, highly recommend this stop. They have plate lunches, pies, everything is home cooked style.
Check this local mom and pop restaurant!
Tried eating here a couple times only to find them closed - double check the hours! The kitchen closes at 3pm even though the place is open to 4pm.
We gave up waiting at Hanalei bread company and came here. This place is a really good, simple and local option. The menu and decor are down to earth but you get good food here and on time- a 5 star for me.
The chocolate chip banana bread is AMAZING. We got an omelette and scrambled eggs which was good. We also packed the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich for the beach and it was really nice when we got to it a couple of hours later. If you're looking for a quick and good breakfast place that opens early- this is your best bet in Hanalei!
