Food was good, could’ve used more seasoning for my palate. Service was great, location is amazing - right on top of the active volcano crater!

Absolutely the worst Food I've ever eaten in my life! I needed a chainsaw to cut the teriyaki chicken! The potato macaroni salad you could have used for cement! The super crabby old lady that was our waitress made us feel so uncomfortable to be there that we literally almost just got up and walked out. The service was horrible they acted like they were doing a favor by letting us buy dinner in their restaurant! Really the worst experience of the entire Big Island was Volcano House! I wish I could rate it a zero. Thank God for the coconut Grill and Hilo! But as far as the rest of the park goes it was awesome.

The restaurant is just the right amount and delicious. Eating a meal while looking at the crater is a unique experience.
The retro atmosphere of the fireplace and rocking chair in the lobby was very nice.
A perfect place for a trekking break.

Beautiful location, awesome service, but the rooms and general amenities are pretty poor for a more expensive hotel.

The rooms are very small, the wifi didn’t work in our room, and the walls are paper thin so you can hear everything going on in the hallways and outside.

We only had dinner here so I can’t comment on rooms, but the food was decent. Not super high end dining, but that view of the caldera is unbeatable! Worth the stop!

We ate here for lunch while visiting the volcano national park. The food was delicious and we had an amazing view of the volcano while we ate!

Got major food poisoning last night spent half the night throwing up my dinner. We made reservations, which had to wait over an hour for our reservation. Service was ok. I was so looking forward to this. It was such a shame that it turned into a terrible time.

My friend and I stopped by the Volcano house when we visited the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated right away. The restraunt overlooks an active volcano. You could see smoke/steam coming out of some of the areas.
We started off with drinks - 1. Uncle George's hot chocolate 2. The Rims hot buttered rum. The hot chocolate was very watered down, so I had to ask for extra creamer. Buttered rum was pretty light on alcohol.
We also got the big island chicken wings with guava bbq sauce. The wings were good. Bbq sauce was regular bbq sauce, and we didn't taste any guava in there.
For our mains, we got the volcano house burger and Korean style kalbi beef ribs. The burger was really big and hard to eat. It was alright. The meat was a bit dry even though we asked for medium. Kalbi beef ribs were flavored well, but the mashed potatoes that came with it had no flavor, and the salad wasn't fresh. Our server was pretty good.

We just love the national parks and this one is no different. The best view of the crater is from the dining area and the rooms at the lodge. The food was delicious. Definitely worth the visit.

I did not stay here but used the balcony to view the pit formed by the volcano. A ranger gave a spellbinding presentation along with a 1/2 mile walk to get multiple views. Best view you can get of the volcano and if the wind is right a good smell of the sulfur based gases coming up from the magma just below the crust of the caldera.

I ate lunch here and it has a great view of the Kiluea volcano crater. Excellent service and I am sure the rooms are awesome.

Excellent hotel with excellent views. Nice lobby with fire place and great views. I am told that the fireplace is the longest continuous fire in the US.

Dated but clean, historical lodge. Service and food were amazing at the restaurant. Cool breezes and amazing views from the restaurant and rooms when the clouds roll away.

The rooms are a bit dated, but the food and location are good. Anything you make is delicious.

I've been wanting to spend an evening at the Volcano House since my first visit to the National Park in 1993. Finally got my chance recently. I booked a deluxe crater view room on the day the June 2023 eruption began. Even though I was hoping the eruption would still be occuring I knew that there was a good probability that it would not be. The eruption ended roughly 2 weeks before my stay but that didn't temper my enthusiasm at all. Checking in was easy and guests were offered a complimentary mimosa that I declined but looked refreshing. I got room 33 which is a 2nd floor room with amazing crater and Mauna Loa views. The room itself was very clean and had everything I needed for a quiet stay. The bathroom was a little cramped but the shower was well lit and had been recently re-tiled. The shower got warm quickly and drained well (no standing water at my feet). The exit door on this floor bangs loudly when someone leaves and fortunately it got quiet after 9pm. The bed was comfortable and the pillows and bedding were nice quality. Overall it is a decent room that is right in the middle of the "action". My biggest gripe is the $1.00/bottle spring water that was seemingly complimentary until I noticed a very small typed sticker on the mirror that informed me that it wasn't. I'm glad I got to experience staying at the historic Volcano House.

Fantastic views, especially sunset. The rooms are very dated with few outlets. Small bathrooms with Luke warm showers.
