The warm welcome close to the National Park was appreciated and a delicious dinner was excellent. Well stocked facilities and very comfortable. Altogether, VVE exceeded expectations.

Nicely located very close to Volcano National Park, the room was clean, free breakfast delicious and the service was both excellent and discrete. The grounds were also beautiful.

Such a cute place. We loved our cottage. The location to Volcano National Park couldn’t be better. The host was amazing and friendly. Would stay here again

Very conveniently located - less than 10 mins from the Park. Super cosy and a very clean little accommodation.

Originally took a month before we finally got ahold of someone to book a room and a wedding reception, then a week after that for us to actually get the room. Now when we call we get redirected to some 3rd party phone services that gives us the same number to call during their open hours, WHEN THEY ARE OPEN. Impossible to talk to anyone. Im pretty sure this place is a scam.

I spent one night here mid March with my mom and we both agreed it was the best night of our trip. We booked Umauma Cottage, which was perfect for us! John, the innkeeper, was wonderful and the communication was excellent coming and going. Breakfast was provided in the morning before our departure, consisting of french toast and fresh fruit. Amenities in the cottage included a fireplace, extra sink and mini fridge, coffee machine and local coffee, seating space, luggage rack, flashlights for use, etc. There was also a separate loft sleeping space, which my mom used and said was perfect for her. It was cool enough to open our windows and the following morning, we turned on the fireplace which was very soothing and cozy. The grounds are tropical and filled with a variety of plants. The birds in the morning were also wonderful, bring your binoculars! There was a hot tub available to use but we did not utilize it during our stay. We both agreed that they were the most comfortable beds we slept in during our trip and that we regretted not staying another night.

We've just returned from an outstanding excursion to the Big Island where we stayed in the most beautiful and charming  bungalows located at Volcano Village Estates. We truly could not have picked a better location to act as our point of departure as we explored the volcanic region of Hilo, Big Island. The team at Volcano Village Estates could not have been more accommodating, and a special thanks must go out to John who went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was both comfortable and well-spent. John and his team were so responsive and remained in communication with texts which made it quite easy to coordinate our arrival, departure, and several other important areas when communication was necessary or beneficial. The breakfast each morning was delicious too (I'm still reminiscing about the yummy French toast), the view was tropical at its best, and the rooms were perfect for our group of 6. We are already excited about future return visits and we would not dream of staying anywhere else in Hilo. We could not recommend this remarkable bread and breakfast styled place to stay in a tropical rainforest paradise.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Volcano Village Estates! The setting is stunning - you feel like you've stepped into your own secret garden. The innkeeper John was there to greet us when we arrived. What a lovely person to talk to!
This B&B had so sweet details that made our stay really wonderful. Everyone stays in their own little cottage. There was a homemade quiche and fresh fruit plate for us to eat for breakfast the next day. They had a real coffee pot and hot water kettle in the cottage. Wonderful shower products and plenty of towels. I was kicking myself for not staying more nights here. Highly recommend this hotel! It was also a super convenient location for access to the Volcano National Park.

Spent Wed-Sat (4) nights in late January 2023 in the Rainbow Falls cabin for $386 per night including tax and fees.

The facility is a 100-year old former summer residence with several detached guest houses. Setting is in a rain-forest area typical of the eastern half of the Big Island. There was a hot tub on the grounds.

The room had a small kitchenette with microwave and coffee maker, stocked with some great local coffee. Small front porch with two chairs and a table. The bed was comfortable. There was adequate hot water. And it was very quiet. It got to about 50F at night, and heat was provided by a gas fireplace insert, either full-on or full-off. We used it for a couple hours before bedtime, the switched it off until morning. The only knocks on this room were that there was no table inside (lap-tables instead) and the internet service was unreliable (we hot-spotted with our phones). And my favorite “gripe” applies to about 99% of places we stay: in a room for two there is only one suitcase stand.

Location was about 3 miles from entrance to Hawaii Volcanos NP, although you could walk about a mile and access a service road/hiking trail into the park at Highway 11 near Old Volcano Rd. Another half-mile would bring you to the Lava Tube and access to the Kilauea-Iki crater rim trail. Several average-to-very good restaurants were within a couple miles of the accommodation.

As long as Kilauea-Halema’uma’u crater is active, book early and make reservations for dinner. It makes for a busy place.

Hosts John and Pua could not have been nicer. John was always around and making sure we had everything we needed. Although he was always busy, he gave us a tour of the main house (Dillingham House) which was beautiful. He also had a vast knowledge of things to do in the area and took time to share those.

Breakfast (fruit & entree) would be delivered the day before, and the entree-of-the-day (pancakes, French toast, quiche, burrito) was heated in the microwave. They were all excellent. (And you could have your breakfast on your own schedule.)

If I were returning to the area, I would stay there again.

Very nice and quiet. The best if you are visiting the National Volcano park. Good breakfast also. We where staying in the Rainbow Falls cottage and the fire place was a nice touch! Thanks for everything!

We stayed here one day during our Hawaii Big Island visit. Wish we could have stayed longer! Although the price tag is high end but it absolutely worth it! The property is so beautiful and the stuffs are amazing. We weren’t sure if we can check in before the office closing time. But the stuff walked us through and told us that they would keep the breakfast for us in the refrigerator for the next day. We were able to reach before the office closing time and she (sorry I forgot her name) was so nice. We stayed in Poliahu room and it was just beyond my imagination! It was modern and ethnic at the same time. Big Island was irrupting during our visit they also provide torches to venture out at night. I went for a walk next morning and the surrounding is serenity! With the birds chirping while you having breakfast outside is priceless! I’d highly recommend staying here

We checked in after office hours, the staff was extremely responsive and SO nice! The Pineapple Ohana was a perfect place to stay! It was spotless and a beautiful place to stay. The other villas were closer than we thought they'd be, but you don't hear anything from your neighbors! It was the perfect place to stay during our visit.

So often the photos are nicer than the actual place/experience but this was NOT the case here. The rooms are beautifully appointed and decorated. What a charming retreat, so close to all the activity the park has to offer.

We spent the 3rd leg of our Hawaiian Island family vacation at Volcano Village Estates last week. This included my husband and I, our 3 adult children, two with spouses and one grandchild. Each family had their own cottage, staying at Umauma Falls, Rainbow Falls, Onomea and Nanue, so all near each other with privacy when we needed it. The resort has great shared spaces to hang out after our busy days at the park or exploring the area. The location was just across the street from Volcano National Park, which made revisiting after dark to see the lava glow super easy. Breakfasts were delicious and easy. We loved the hot tub and the rainforest retreat feel of the estates. What was fantastic, was the customer service. With flight delays requiring an after-hours check-in, Carlos was in touch via text with resort maps, WIFI info, and an after-hours phone number to be sure we had everything we needed when we arrived. (BTW, it was easy to find the resort in the dark with GPS and trees lite with white lights)
Pua was a great source of information about local activities, and made sure we had the common space we needed, including opening up an extra cottage space for us one evening. She made a birthday surprise for our son happen seamlessly! Then, when I inadvertently left a small credit card wallet in my room, they found it, and mailed it back home! Their outstanding service was equaled to their respect for our privacy and their love for the Volcano area. We all highly recommend the Volcano Village Estates as your home base while visiting the area.

It's very close to the volcano national park. The beautiful plants in the resorts are carefully maintained. The staff are very kind. The pancakes in the breakfast are very special and delicious.
