Wailua Kayak & Canoe reviews
17 Fantastic experience with Michael, our tour guide! He was very considerate of the entire group's experience level and made sure everyone crossed safely by providing walking sticks. He also took amazing photos! He made this experience worthwhile and memorable, and is the main reason this experience is worth recommending.
What was not fantastic was the booking and customer service team. There was a lack of communication and responsiveness. We got a text at 5: 48am saying that kayaking was cancelled due to "bad weather. " All weather forecasts pointed to a sunny morning. Three groups showed up at the meetup point at the original time because the cancellation was so hard to believe. There were also no weather warnings issued by the island for Wailua. They asked us to call at 8am to work through rebooking but we went to voicemail for the next 3 days. Very disappointing.
See photos for a view of the weather. We also saw multiple kayak tours on the river at that time. We only managed to "rebook" by proactively paying for another booking later in the week. We never heard back about our original booking nor received any offer to rebook despite sending emails, leaving voicemails and calling everyday.
For better customer service, go to Kayak Wailua next door. I called them up during this period and they were extremely accommodating, proactive and responsive.
They cancelled on us twice for a 7: 15 am unguided kayak trip to the falls. The first time they notified us early in the morning as the conditions were unfavorable and thankfully we hadn’t left yet, it was a very windy day and we agreed it wouldn’t have been good to go that day. The second time they did not notify us and we showed up to find other people waiting and no one there. The other couples called the company and received no response. We also called and received no response. We wound up finding another company putting people in the water and they rented us a kayak which we were so grateful for. We did receive word later from Wailua kayak and canoe that they tried to contact us to cancel due to unfavorable conditions. It was a beautiful and calm morning on the river, absolutely perfect conditions.
Fabulous rental experience and great paddle and visit to the (not so) secret falls. DON'T miss out on Fern Grotto.
Have not yet had our experience.not there for several months yet. Just checked out the details online.
Had a great experience and definitely recommend this adventure! We had 4 adults and 6 kids (16yo-4yo). Everyone enjoyed it! Daniel, our tour guide was great!
Had a great trip with Wailua Kayak - the staff were fantastic and it's such a beautiful place! There were a lot more people at the falls than I'd hoped for, but that's kind of the nature of fantastically beautiful places.
Super convenient place to rent a kayak and launch. Just park your car, put your boat in the water, and go! The river is beautiful and easy to navigate. Nothing but good things to say here!
This was a great experience! ! I’m 63 and in pretty good shape, but this was a bit challenging and the hike was very slippery. While definitely worth it, I wouldn’t recommend the hike portion to anyone who isn’t in pretty good shape. Still, if you can do it, I would highly recommend that you do!
Rented kayak and did not do tour. Had a great experience. You have to walk the kayak to the water, which is an easy 5 minute walk. Would recommend them
We had an amazing time with the self guided kayak rental. We were given very simple instructions as that was all that was needed to get to the waterfall and to fern grotto. The Wailua river is stunningly beautiful, and seeing via kayak is the most fun way to do it.
Great experience! We just rented a double kayak without a tour guide and it was perfect. We were able to speed up our trip a little and enjoy the waterfall and hike virtually to ourselves. Definitely doing this again when we return to the island.
Did the self tour with a single kayak. Everything was perfect and easy. Equipment was good. They are right on the river so no additional travel required, you pull the kayak right up to the river from the shop. Would def rent from them again.
Staff was great. He explained the journey so we felt comfortable doing it by ourselves and not having a guided tour. They supplied a dry bag and small cloth ice chest. Highly recommend this experience! The secret falls are beautiful.
Fabulous day out. Could be better if they taught new people how to paddle but it's not too hard to figure out. Had the best day, beautiful scenes and beautiful sounds of the tropics that come with the experience. Be prepared to get soaked and take water proof shoes as you'll need to cross a section of the river by foot but the hike is totally worth it!
Hazel was an amazing guide and it was so amazing to see the beauty of Kauai kayaking, hiking and swimming under the waterfall!
Gorgeous river, easy hike, and my first time swimming in a waterfall! Hazel was a wonderful guide!
So fun kayaking the river then hiking up to the falls. We had such a chill & informative tour guide! Daniel was so cool! Great experience & highly recommend doing this at least once while in Kauai.
