Waimoku Falls is a stunning natural wonder located in Maui, Hawaii, that offers visitors an unforgettable experience of hiking, exploring, and admiring the breathtaking beauty of the waterfall. The hike to Waimoku Falls is approximately four miles round-trip and takes visitors through a lush bamboo forest, past a stunning banyan tree, and along the majestic Pipiwai Trail.

The trail is well-maintained and offers visitors the opportunity to take in stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the lush greenery of the forest, the rocky cliffs, and the cascading streams. The highlight of the trail is undoubtedly the awe-inspiring Waimoku Falls, a towering waterfall that drops 400 feet into a natural pool below.

Along the way to the waterfall, visitors will also come across the magnificent banyan tree, which is a marvel to behold. This tree is believed to be over 100 years old and is one of the largest banyan trees in Hawaii.

Overall, Waimoku Falls is a must-visit attraction for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. The trail and waterfall offer a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and provide a chance to connect with the natural world. Whether you are an experienced hiker or a casual nature enthusiast, the beauty of Waimoku Falls is sure to leave a lasting impression.

In the past, you're able to freely enter and access from the trail to the base of the waterfall. In recent years, the end of the trail stops a few hundred feet before you get to the base of the waterfall, most likely due to ignorant visitors dirtying the area.

Please respect the environment and do not litter. The trail can get a bit tiring as you finish the bamboo portion and having to navigate over a small stream before you get here, BUT it is worth it in the end.

Advise to start before 10am local time as you'll have plenty of cool shaded area as well as less crowd for your hike. Bring water (to stay hydrated) as well as a hate for shade. Take pictures and share your experience.

Overall the events leading up to getting to Waimoku Falls should be an experience for anyone visiting Maui.

Definitely take the hike. Bamboo forest and lower falls leading up to this waterfall is all part of the experience that makes it worthwhile.

Most amazing and beautiful hike I`ve ever done in my life (Pipiwai trail). Moderate difficulty, roundtrip takes about 2-2.5 hours. Recommend to start before 1 pm (earlyier the better) to avoid crowds. About 5.5 kilometers roundtrip. Totaly worth it, can get right upclose to the waterfall which is refreshing. You will see the 2nd largest banyon tree in the U. S on this trail (largest one is located in Lahaina) & you will also walk through a bamboo forest. There`s a 30 $ parking fee/pass which is at the Kipahulu visitor center. You will want to keep that pass if you want to enter the Haleakala national park again (valid for the following 3 days). Recommend hiking shoes/boots. NOW, following the road to Hana onto Piilani Highway, i strongly recommend you to go back to Hana because beyond the road from Kīpahulu visitor center, for the next 16 miles (onto Piilani Highway 31) is not maintained, it gets a lot worst with lots of potholes and 1 lane road most of the time with no guard rails on the edge of the ocean/rocks. Some car rentals might not cover damages if that road is taken because it`s SO BAD (read fine print). After the 16 miles, the road turns beautiful with phenomenal views. Decision is up to you. Good luck.

The road to hana is not for everyone, although it is beautiful and a long/different kind of road trip, I left at around 530 AM to avoid traffic, multiple 1 lane bridges, parts of highway, twist & turns (took me 2.5 hours from kihei). Can`t imagine and would`nt do this road trip in the mid AM or afternoon. Would take 3-4 hours one way (waste of time). If you drive the road to Hana, what I did and recommend once youre there (Lava tube - did not do but looks interesting, black & red sand beach, Pipiwai hike). Little to no cell service along the whole way. *

Luckily the day I went it started to after my hike. Pretty cool to check out a 400ft waterfall if you have time but the best part is going through the bamboo forest. The hike was not hard getting to the end. Took about 1.75 hour. I did this in well padded flip flops. Oh bring bug spray! I got bitten so many times from the calves and below, it was weird.

Beautiful falls, well worth the difficult hike through the bamboo forest!
Only critique is that it’s very, very difficult to get closer!

A great site at the end of the hike. You are not supposed to get close to the bottom of the falls per the sign (July 2022) however several people were doing it anyways.

Amazing trail and worth the whole road to Hana. We were surrounded by surreal bamboo forests and constant sounds of neighboring waterfalls. Although slightly steep, the hike is very assailable for all ages and fitness groups. You will need to buy tickets to enter the park but parking is plentiful.

There are much more impressive falls elsewhere in the US. For Maui, Waimoku is good enough. I've seen folks wearing flip-flops to get here. Trail can be muddy. Even when dry, the uneven path can be treacherous.

As you start out on the hike, you think it will not be bad, as you continue on the hike and see interesting things, you start to get tired. Once you are tired, you wonder if it will be worth it to see the falls. Trust me, it will be worth it. Totally and completely. This is the most awe inspiring waterfalls in the state. It's incredibly tall and has a beautiful pool at the base.

Highly recommend the Pipiwai Trail. It's very unique! The falls are kind of small, maybe it depends on the time of year, but the trail up was full of all different kinds of scenery. My favorite was the bamboo forest part. It's about 3-4 miles to the top I think. Not too hard and it's a pretty busy route.

This is very last water fall of Pipiwai Trail. You will see the 2 more water falls on way to top.
There are also large bamboo forest on the way.
It is 2 mile trail. It is easy trail for family. It took 2hr and half around trip. We took many pictures on the way.
Wamoku fall on the top was great.

Great waterfall. For some strange reason there is a big sign before the falls that says do not go beyond this point, but everyone seems to and you cannot actually see the falls properly unless you do. There were lots of people under the falls.
Even from a distance its quite impressive. Bet its fantastic when its at full flow, I was there when it was quite low.
