1850 Patio Grill, Waterloo IA

I am so very pleased that Waterloo has such a wonderful dining/hangout with friends place to go. The food is marvelous and the staff is above and beyond. Thank you for continuing to make our get togethers memorable as well as making us feel like family.

Nice, clean restaurant, but it has a bit of an identity problem. The decor is higher end, but the casual staff attire and huge TVs placed around the place threw me off. We were there on a busy Friday evening and expected a short wait - which we had. Once sat, we saw our server four times total - once to order drinks, once to order food, once to get our food and once to pay our bill. She didn’t check on us once after we got our food, ask if we’d like another drink, nor did she thank us or ask us how things were at the end. Not bad service, just mediocre and no personal touch.

The menu had a nice selection. My husband ordered the Bada Bing Ribeye. Steak was prepared well but nothing special. I ordered the Margarita flatbread and it was also just fine. Our daughter enjoyed her turkey pesto sandwich and fries. A little pricey for mediocre food but not bad.

Overall it’s decent if you are in the area, but won’t be a destination for us.

Everything was nice and neat. Food was pretty dang good as well. Service was great even though there was a crowd. Definitely will be back!

Have been there multiple times and have never had a bad experience! Service was very good, drinks were good and the Mac n cheese is really good!

The atmosphere in 1850 was just what we needed that night. There were four of us, longtime friends who hadn’t seen each other for some time and our waitress was very patient with us!

The service was fantastic and the waitress was very friendly. The food was okay. All the appetizers (fries, sweet potato fries, and goat cheese teuffle) came out burnt. Appetizers came out after the food. Atmosphere is nice!

Food was fantastic! Some of the best I've had around here. The service and atmosphere were good too. Absolutely would recommend!

Hope, was Very rude and disrespectful! As well as the other staff, poor communication skills. I would not recommend this place to anyone

The service was absolutely horrible. Very slow. Not once did our server check on our group. No water refills. We sat on the patio & had to go inside to the bar to order drinks and find our server to order our meals.

After about 45 minutes of waiting for meals, they came out incorrect, cold, or burnt.

Had a group of 10 adults, but was told we had to have a minimum of $25/each per ticket + group gratuity and no combined tickets. Anything less than $25, they would add the remainder to make $25. However, their policy is a group of 15+ require $25/individual ticket minimum. When asking to speak to the manager, our server told us she was too busy to come to speak with us. Made it very awkward, assuming our server felt it as well, which is why he never came back to check on our group.

Do not visit if you are in a hurry or your have hungry kids as you & your family will be there awhile due to the slow service.

We came here on a weeknight well past rush time & while only a few other tables occupied but it took forever to even get seated. The bartender came up to us after a while and told us that she would get the hostess. The hostess finally sat us by waving at a booth with a rude "I guess you can sit here". No menus, silverware or even eye contact. Finally our waitress came out after over 30 min of waiting with still not so much as a drink menu. Her service is friendly at least but it takes about 30 minutes for her to check on us each time. So between drinks, ordering food, the food coming, waiting on the check, etc we were there for 3 hours for what should have been a 45 min meal. The food was good but expensive, especially for the small portions. The atmosphere was ok but you can tell they are trying to present themselves as higher class than they actually are. Charging more for food and roping off a couch doesn't in and of itself make a place classier. I'd choose normal speed service and decent portions every time. They also overcharged us on our drinks despite the drink menus being dirty and covered in multiple attempts at raising the prices already. Overall, you can find far better places to eat for this price point.

Seating was only 25%full inside and out. They would not seat us. They said the kitchen was behind, we told them we understood, but they still would not seat us and just give us water. Where is the Customer Service? , There were 4 staff members just standing around, to include the hostess. I understand a party of 10 might be too much to handle when you are fully staffed. I used to live in the Waterloo area and was in town visiting. Sorry the owner wasn't present. We went to another fine dining and they Welcomed us and Greatly Appreciated our Very Nice tips as well.

Appetizers were good, but that’s pretty much where it ended. We waited over an hour for food, despite it not being busy. Our main meals were lackluster and cold by the time they arrived. The kicker was after the 4 of us were finished eating we saw two friends there who came over to chat, and when we got our bills they added a 20% charge to all three couples for a “large party. ”

Out of everything, expensive for what you get, can only sit in certain areas and no one there won’t come back.

Don't judge a restaurant by it facade! This doesn't look like much from the outside parking. Husband was like, "Here? Really? " Of course I said just wait. We walked in and were impressed immediately. Then we were seated outside like asked, and hubby said, "dang, shoulda brought my clubs on the trip! " There's a small driving range a few businesses down. Anywho! Food was amazing! Goat cheese truffles with cherry sauce! OMG to die for! XXXMac-n-Cheese. I DID DIE! BUT WENT STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN! Perfection on the creamy texture and right amount of cheesiness! The flat breads are amazing. The Brussel sprouts and bacon sauce is different yet surprising delicious the Philly cheese steak one was delicious as well.

Our server was Maddox. He was EXCEPTIONAL. The food and drink options were great including vegans/vegetarians. It was disappointing discover outdated menus where food and drink items were no longer offered as well as some items increased by $3-5. Our party of 5 was also charged 20% gratuity. It was corrected after "Hope" let her staff know she just "didn't have time to argue". No one was arguing with her. It was respectfully pointed out and we just asked for it to be corrected.

Ordered to go off of the menu they have on line. First time getting this and the menu is outdated a lot not on it. Had to redo what we were going to eat. Showed up they said 15-20 mins I showed up pry half hour still wasn’t ready. Got it home and my steak was not cooked correct had salad and mashed potatoes that were nothing special. She had the salmon which was over cooked and dry. 60 plus tip for 2 entrees no drinks plus I tipped close to 10. Not servers fault. So 70 for something that Texas Roadhouse does better for way cheaper. Very expensive for what you actually get. Very sad was excited to try something new. The mark was missed here.
