Small selection of on display basses. Prices are a little on the high side for used equipment. Guitars can be bought new with better quality for a little more.

Very overpriced in their used drum department. Trying to make top dollar on broken equipment is just wrong.

I stopped by AMC yesterday to look around. Great selection of both acoustic and electric guitars. Great selection of amps and pedals as well as sound boards and effects for the boards. Great selection. I brought my PRS guitar in to have it tuned up and the strings lowered and replaced and the guitar was amazing! I haven't been playing it since I purchased the Paul Reed Smith as it was a factory setup, but after Jeremy and Randy tuned it up it will be my go to electric as well as my 88 USA Fender Strat. Jerry is great, knowledgeable and very approachable. I will definitely be doing more business with this great gem on the Southside. I encourage musicians to give it a look see.

My son was in a motorcycle accident 5 months ago and is just getting use of his hands back. He needed his strings changed on both his Bass and Guitar. We went to the shop and they were able to change strings, get both guitars tuned, cleaned and restrung in a few hours. My son is already trying to strum his guitar and I know this will help him heal more. We will only be going here from now on. Thank you so much for helping my son get back to what he loves

Broke the head on my guitar and after the repairs you can't even notice, they repaired it quickly and cheaper then expected. 10/10 would recommend

Went here for some strings and instrument cable. To my surprise was the hidden gem of the South Side if you’re a musician. So much used gear, vintage gear, amps, rack gear, PA’s, Drum Kits etc. Would have bought more strings but I’m also kind of high demand in that department anyways. I like D’Addario Nickel wound Heavy and Ernie Ball Skinny top Heavy bottom. I’m pretty excited to come back.

This is a very good and local guitar and instrument supplier. Highly recommend. Please consider giving them your business as they are a mom and pop shop and are experts.

I just bought a MiM Fender Strat from them today. I was able to get the guitar, and play it for a solid amount of time before deciding to buy it. It's a smaller family owned music store, but with a good amount of room. There's a good selection of used guitars, amps, and more. Everything seems priced very reasonable, and the staff is friendly. I will definitely continue to do business with them, and I highly recommend you at least stop in, and check it out.

I’m tired of dealing with Corporate Music Stores! American Music is locally owned and operated on the South Side of Des Moines and they have a HUGE selection of new & used equipment! Trust me your not gonna get a better deal anywhere else! Jerry and his staff will take care of you like family! Do yourself and your Budget a favor and at least go and check them out?

Jerry turned me on to a Gnl legacy at his store. He had many Gnls i bought it and Randy his guitar tech set it up perfect, just the way i wanted it. I havent played so good in years. This guitar brought it out of me again. Thankyou American Music Center!
