I worked as a science teacher at Bergman for 6 years. I moved to another state and began teaching in a public school system. The difference is staggering. Bergman teachers are 100% committed to helping each student grow into their full potential both inside and outside of the classroom. The level of collaboration between teams of teachers is something I haven't seen anywhere else - always working to do what is best for the kids, while planning engaging and challenging curriculum. Bergman also offers incredible field trip opportunities to help extend student learning.
The setting of Bergman is a beautiful park that seems like an escape from the urban feel of Des Moines. Bergman students feel welcomed and supported by the entire Bergman community. This community is special, and I only wish Bergman were in my new home state.

We heard so many good things about Bergman Academy whether it’s the principal the secretaries or the teachers they are very qualified teachers they are there to teach our kids and to give them The best education possible plus the coolest thing is class size is small and that’s what you need there are a lot of teachers outside of Bergman they have a class size between 25 to 30 kids to One teacher. That’s what I like about charter schools now does it cost money oh yeah but it’s well worth it.

Bergman is an amazing place to go to school. As a student there, I love it. Faculty is super nice, students are friendly, and it is a wonderful place overall. You know all of your classmates and teachers personally because of the class sizes. The classrooms themselves are really comfortable to be in. The education too is amazing. You are placed in levels appropriate for you. Many people I know are years ahead of themselves in math, vocabulary, and spelling in the lower grades. Also, the location is just perfect. Greenwood park offers so many different activities. In PE, kids go geocaching, sledding, hiking. Even though there is no sports team, there are extracurriculars at school you can sign up for, such as soccer, mountain biking, cross country, karate, and much more. Chess club, art club, science club, drama club, and so much more is offered. There are three different choirs that take place during the day. Kids as young as 4 are taking Spanish classes. One of our Spanish teachers won an award! There are so many fun things we do throughout the school year, such as Spellebration, where kids each are given a 50 word spelling test and gather pledges. Or the Hispanic Festival with a salsa class, paper rocket making, a Middle Scholars soccer match, and a market with churros, flags, and a band playing to end the day. Going to Bergman is so much fun, and a great experience for all kids.
