Brushy Creek State Recreation Area reviews
17Great for fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, even a rifle/pistol range and a shotgun range. Modern bathrooms and campgrounds. They are always adding more!
Absolutely in love with this campground. The bathrooms are the cleanest I've ever seen at a campground. The sites are spaced quite a bit, which is wonderful for privacy reasons. It's quiet and the water tastes absolutely delicious. I seriously can't talk this place up enough. We will definitely be back.
Good place to camp, the playgroud at the South Equine campground, could use some more play equipment for kids, but overall, a nice place!
Quiet and a nice place to fish. They also take care of the park really well.
Also like the fish cleaning station.
Many nice hiking trails and horse back riding trails. The facilities are also very nice, new, and well kept. In addition to trails there is also a well maintained beach and a a lot of places to go fishing
I love the scenery and the calming effects that Brushy has to offer. The equestrian sites are so spacious and I enjoy just looking up at all the stars.
This place is very well kept. The campgrounds are spacious and gorgeous. The boat launches are top notch.
Very nice. Nice bath houses and large sites. Beach camp ground is perfect for the family. Very nice beach! Lots of great fishing and wonderful horse campsites. We don't have horses, but camped in the north equine camp near Lake. Lots of shade and everything you need. Loved it!
Great campgrounds and super staff. We had never been there and ended up staying in the equine camp grounds. The spots were very large and clean.
I camped at the north equine campgrounds. Over 100 spots available and widely spread out. Hot water showers, but the push button only gives you 5 seconds. Well kept as there are 2 campground host. Plenty of trails to keep you busy. Beautiful overlooks and fishing. Bring extra ice for the cooler, nearest ice box that I found was north to Duncombe at a bait and grocery store. Not that far out of the way, but inconvenient. Lots of birds to enjoy. I'll be back.
It's a great place to visit. I didn't go ALL around but the spots I did see where nice. The only down side is, with being there for so many hours it would've been nice to have restrooms around. The only restroom that we got to find was closed but I will be there again!
There are many trails @ Brushy Creek that I enjoy hiking. Camping and a man made lake are also available. This photo is from a trail in the lower park that borders the river.
Don't miss an autumn ride. Try to be at the Preserve Trail Overlook about two hours before sunset. Beautiful!
Great equestrian campground. I have been there twice now and will be back again. Staff is friendly shower rooms are clean, they could use some inside painting. The trails are ready for every level of rider.
This was my first visit. It was a comfortable day for grilling. And I was able to find some beauty amongst the dead trees in the water. That was lying on my back staring up at the sky through the leaves of trees. It reminded me of childhood. I'm 70 yrs old.
Great park and great fishing and js home to one of the best muskellunge lakes in America, definitely the best in iowa
The camping is good but not many full hookups. All site have electrical. Sites are rock and no concrete. Plenty of space for backing in. Clean restrooms and shower facilities. Quiet very quiet.
If going to fish and dont want to just putt around on a boat dont bring one. No wake lake with standing trees and limbs through out the lake. Fishing for sport fish is recommended but the water is so clear they see you long before you even cast.
DNR very friendly and informative.
