Bubba, Des Moines IA

Almost everything on the menu looked like first choice at Bubba's. I had to resort to old faithful, ribeye. Next time I am in Des Moines, you can bet I will be eating at Bubbas again. I am not a grits or brussel sprouts eater, but I might even try grits next time. JJ talked me into staying with the Brussels sprouts and giving them a try. I should have taken a picture of 'after' since I devoured it. I was eating alone so I was a little out of place with everyone out celebrating, but they found a table on the side to relax after work and get themselves a regular customer, at least when I am staying in Des Moines.

We stopped here for dinner last night and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. May was our waiter and was very personable and helpful.

We started off with drinks.both from Matt's suggestions and loved them both. I had the Leather and Tobacco while my wife had the Jalisco Tea (see pictures). Following that, we each enjoyed Matt's to 2 recommendations from the menu: Chicken Fried Steak and Shrimp & Grits (see photos).

What a great combination of 5* service and atmosphere with a fantastic menu, while starting slightly under the typical 5* costs. You will definitely want to put this place on your 'Want to go' list.especially if you enjoy southern comfort foods.

Please do not waste your time or money. My friend said she was here before when they had a different cook and it was good then, but now they have another cook and the food was absolutely horrible! It was well over priced for the quality of food that you get. We spent well over a hundred dollars for our party of five. The food was not seasoned at all. The fish didn't taste like it was cooked on corn meal with again no seasoning. The fried green tomatoes where more like fry green
tomato skins. The greens tasted like can greens. If I didn't have to put down one star I wouldn't do that.

Incredible! The service was great! We had reservations, which I highly recommend. This place is hoppin’. I got deviled eggs as a starter, grits (to die for), and finished with the pecan pie. I would’ve done more pics but the food was so good I forgot. Lol. The first pic is of my friend’s desert. I would definitely recommend this place.

Been there 3 times and had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken twice and the Fried Chicken sandwich for lunch.

Everything was great. All my lunch companions liked what they had.

The shrimp and grits was ridiculously good. The fried chicken plate with the sides was also a winner, but the rest of the day I just kept thinking of the shrimp and grits. Only had them on the west coast before so I didn't realize how good they could be.

Absolutely awful food. Had some very high expectations and was greatly dissatisfied. Drinks were very good, but, meh, take it or leave it. Maybe they were having an off night but will not be wasting time or money here again.

Amazing food! Not a bad egg out there! Their online reservations were booked up but we called and they had an opening for us! Our waiter was amazing and very attentive in making sure we had enough coffee/ drinks.

Good service, food was pretty good. Deviled eggs were delicious, if you like them sweet. Shrimp and grits were very well presented, a little bland, could use some spice and salt. Atmosphere is nice.

Bubba has excellent atmosphere, our server was on-top of everything and very social. You can't go wrong with any meal item as everything we had was amazing. Their mocktails were surprisingly refreshing.

It was awesome - we were a party of 11 that sat by the front window. Our watress was super sweet. We came to your establishment for my husbands 40yr retirement party from the same company around 7: 15pm and we all had a nice experience and the food was fantastic and the drinks were top notch. We didnt get our watresses name but she has been with you for 6 years. Thanks for the wonderful memory.

I spent more than I usually do. Didn't have a cocktail but from what I saw they looked very tasty. Was great to try. I recommend but probably won't go back I little pricey.

Second time here for brunch. Enjoyed the food and the drink, will definitely come back again.

Came on a Sunday at 11am with a group of 8. Love the atmosphere. Great bloody and coffee cocktail. However… we ordered chicken, hash browns, eggs, etc… and it was all cold. I’ve heard this is a common issue. Really made the food unenjoyable, even their famous chicken was sub par at best cold. I’d like to give a better review because it was good, but it needs to be hot.

This place was so close to being five stars for me. Overall, the experience was good. The food is the highlight of course. I ordered the half bird fried chicken, red beans and rice, and cheese grits. Unfortunately, as flavorful as the food was, I felt my plate had been sitting out for a while as the temperature of the food was slightly cold when it arrived to the table. I also ordered my half bird fried chicken with gravy, which is an extra dollar, but it was served without gravy. When I told the waitress that my chicken was supposed to have gravy she brought me a tiny condiment cup of gravy (for the half bird) and still charged me $1.00.

Service was very mediocre. Our waitress wasn't very personable or cheery, I definitely got the feeling that she would have rather been elsewhere other than work, which I totally get, but it's worth mentioning in a review.

Overall, the food is very flavorful, definitely worth the visit. I just hope during your visit that the service is more cheery, your food is hot, and you get everything you ordered.

The food was good, however I however I did think you think the bread was stale and hard. We ordered the shrimp and grits, and Crawfish Mac and cheese with brussel sprouts and fish.

Very Nice place. The food tasted excellent; the service was terrific! I definitely will stop back for Waffle and chicken MUST TRY THE MAC AND CHEESE

Wait staff wS great, food was good with a couple exceptions, im not a big salt fan and they use quite a bit, and their biscuits are a bit hard on the outside, otherwise great job.

THE MAC AND CHEESE IS TO DIE FOR! Come here solely for that. The fried chicken was okay, a bit dry for me, but the Parmesan fries are wonderful. Our service was pretty good and the atmosphere is fancy or upscale. Very upscale southern comfort food.

Everything was great! Drinks, food and service were all perfect. The mint chocolate julep was so good! We will definitely be back.
