Rented a car in Des Moines and picked up right before closing. Check-in, car pickup, and car drop off was very quick, easy, and no hassle at it could have been. The vehicle sucked but not Budget's fault. Great experience!
Gave me a gas hog again. This is the 3x they haven't had the car I reservered. Not happy.
No compensation either. Don't care do you Budget.
Bad customer service. Wish I could go some other place.
Beware Avis is Budget also
Had a reservation booked but when I showed up to the rental counter they were turning away everyone because they ran out of cars. Do not book Budget or Avis at the Des Moines airport.
Calling a Mitsubishi outlander an “equivalent” to a Toyota RAV4 is a stretch! I turned the car in a day earlier than planned, for which I was given an $8 discount!
Lack of training of staff, haphazard handling of car and the rental. After 3 returns to the terminal a man in the know helped and he solve the issues, but upon receiving the car, a 4th return to the terminal was necessary because the car had not been prepped for re-rental (lack of fuel and dirty - exterior and interior). This was my second try at using Budget this year. The last one found an hour and a half wait time to receive the car which was paid in advance. I realize everyone has staffing problems these days, but Budget needs to get the staff they have trained!
I set up an on-line reservation for $299 and only saw final bill for 30% more after my credit card was charged. I had to pay $50 to cancel reservation made minutes before. Customer Service was no help. Look elsewhere for a car rental.
Always have good experiences and great prices with Budget I have used other rentals but only in desperation
Had to wait over a hour to get a reserved car. Was given a run down and unsafe vehicle with over 70,000 miles and a missing gas cap with the tank completely exposed. Customer service afterward is a joke. Local calls go unanswered at the counter. Left two messages which were not returned. Transferred from one person to the next on the company’s service line with absolutely no resolution. When I finally received my receipt I was charged two extra days. Seriously still on hold with customer service. Now having to prove I left the car when I did. Giving one star only because zero is not an option.
Terrible experience. I show up, and despite having a reserved car, there are no cars available. They are putting people on a wait list with no provided ETA. No guarantee of getting the car you reserved. I was also never notified by budget in advance of there being issues.
Fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants operations over here.

They scammed me and pulled a bait and switch on me when completing my reservation. Promised an Amazon gift card and never sent it to me. In addition the car when I got it was a little dirty still from prior rental. Trash left under the seat and dirt in the cupholder
I will gladly pay more for other car rentals then to ever rent from budget again, nothing but scammers!
If at all possible, I will Not use the Avis/Budget rental place at the Des Moines airport again. The car I reserved (for 2 wks) was Not available. The car I got was a big van that got poor gas mileage. The next day I went in to trade cars & was again treated poorly. (I did learn, however, that the original car I reserved is Never available at this airport.) I fly into DSM regularly. I will find a different rental company. Now.after reading so Many horrible reviews, I mustcadd tharvthe Check Engine message came on as I was driving on my long trip from Des Moines to Michigan. Which means it was on almost the entire 2 weeks. Did I call them? No. My previous experience while calling took so many calls, all [finally] picked up by a service in Mexico.which seemed to have No Access to the actual inventory in Des Moines. So, No. No point in trying to get help by calling the 515 area code. It just went to the 800 number.
Des Moines International Airport Budget car rental is a joke. They give out wrecked vehicles with less than a full tank of gas. (Even was told that they commonly give out wrecked vehicles by staff) The vehicle was also filthy and smelled of wet dog.
For 570 dollars for three days I got an explorer. GPS was non functional. I put in an address and it did not know where I was! Wipers needed replacing horribly. Safety issue driving in the rain. Oil change light came on continuously. There was a loud rattle once I got to 40 mph. The car had 66 k miles. What a sad experience. No one offered to ‘fix’ my issue when I complained upon return.
The gentlemen was super helpful. We had just returned our car and immediately got an email notification that our flight was canceled. He stepped in and made it right. When we returned the next day our flight was canceled again so we decided to drive home. They quickly got us a new one way rental. Super awesome customer service especially under stressful circumstances
