Bar Captain Roy's reviews
16A small place & a little bit expensive but I have to say the food was very good. I ordered the patty melt with steak fries, my wife got the grilled cheese, & we shared some loaded tots & all of them were fantastic! They have a full bar for adult beverages & the bartender was friendly.
Great friendly atmosphere. Clean indoor and outdoor seating for both large and small groups.
There's a great patio / deck area with a view of the river where you can watch boats pass by or listen to calm of the water.
They cater and invite cyclists to stop by for a moment to enjoy a beverage and the sights. There is ample room to park your bike and some tools available for quick repairs.
They are right along the trail and a great place to meet your group and start your ride with plenty of parking for cars.
This place is great because of its location and outdoor area along the river. However, while the drinks are priced typically for Des Moines, the food prices are outrageous. Idk why they think it's okay to charge $11 or $12 dollars for a burger with no sides. Eat someplace else before you come. That's why I'm giving it three stars.
Food is good but a little pricy. Get a burger when you come here. The view is nice and, if you have a boat, this is a great place to stop after a day on the water.
Great people, great service, great food. Wonderful views on the river worth the trip right off the bike trail. ️
Food was good except wanted fried pickles and they were out. Had to clean our table off tho. Loud inside and then there was a screeching cat that began to play music and made it even worse. Ugh. They owe me a set of ear drums. Save the music for outside-too small of an area inside. Not impressed. May try again but may not.
Solid food but eating inside isn't fun. Outdoor space is fun in the summer. They are getting a new space they hopefully will be really cool. Breakfast burritos are awesome here
Great location with so much potential, too bad you have to wait for 30 min to get a drink, so understaffed, they must leave a ton of $$$ on the table. You would think they would have more that just two bartenders and no service outside with a band playing.so mismanaged. If you go bring your cooler or beer!
Captain Roy's is a treasure and a true Gem of Des Moines. The opportunity to see Chris Duarte Austin guitar player set the place on fire August 14th Saturday night was the height of entertainment! The tasty food in the river ambience with Humans and Dogs and great live music cannot be beat. The whole crew is wonderful
Captain Roy's is located conveniently along the bike path at Birdland Marina. They have a breakfast and a lunch menu, along with a nice selection of beverages. Every meal I've eaten there was delicious. I really love their chicken and waffles! The view from the deck is spectacular, with views up and down the Des Moines River. They do get rather busy, especially on the weekends, but the atmosphere is upbeat and energetic. Great spot to fuel up after a bike ride!
What a fun place! Live music by the river. Slow on getting food and always a long line for food and drinks. But such a fun atmosphere!
Every time we eat here the food is always great and the staff is always friendly, we recommend Capital Roy’s to everyone.
Nice place to stop along the bike trail. Great selection of canned beers from local and big breweries. Lots of outdoor seating and places to park your bike. Great view of the river and marina. Food is not great.
Cold beer and good appetizers. Remember, your on the river with not much water so the smell of that could bother some. I loved it! Reminded me of fishing trips to northern Minnesota.
The best breakfast sammie in town. A perfectly fried egg, melty cheese, and a GRAZIANO sausage patty between two fat mini Belgian waffles.
Nestled between the marina and the Neil Smith trail, it's a great starting, stopping and mid point for many adventures.
Don't forget to grab some road beers for the trail or river beers
