Cedar Rock State Park - Lowell and Agnes Walter Estate reviews
18Wonderful park setting of a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home. We enjoyed it so much that we've been there twice, even though we're from 150 miles away.
Loved the house tour by Frank Lloyd Wright. Turned out it could only be used for 3 seasons so even he made mistakes. Beautiful combination of nature and materials. Right on the water.
Our last stop on our way back to MN and we totally enjoyed it. This was our first Frank Lloyd Wright designed home that we have toured. While we waited for our tour, we checked out the family’s boat and motor. It was like nothing we have ever seen before. Our tour guide Nathan was the very knowledgeable. There wasn’t a question he didn’t answer including ones that didn’t directly pertain to the home. He played the piano for us and it was just marvelous. The ideas that Frank Lloyd Wright included into the home were amazing. We were surprised at the number of patents that he held. The bathroom was very interesting and a real space saver. Our favorite tidbit was that the homeowners left money in their will so the gas station close by could hand out full size candy bars like they used to do on Halloween.
Beautiful, well worth the stop. Donations only. Glad to contribute. Everything original, owners left as is. Clothes in closet dishes in kitchen all furniture made by Frank Lloyd wright.
Very knowledgeable and courteous staff and volunteers! A great place to spend an afternoon!
The Frank Lloyd Wright house is beautiful and the tour was very educational. The tour is free but donations are accepted.
Wonderful place to visit. Get Nathan as your tour guide. He is passionate about this house and it’s history and he even played the grand piano for us!
As we were driving we saw the sign and decided to check it out. We arrived just as a tour was getting ready to leave. Oh my gosh are we glad we took the time to take this tour! It is a state park and they don't charge for the tour, but do request donations. Please give a donation so this gem can continue to be viewed. They do an amazing job keeping everything immaculate!
Took a tour today with Nathan. He was very knowledgeable about everything. Made for a great visit. It’s great to see these landmarks being preserved for everyone to visit and enjoy. Highly recommend a visit if you are in this area.
Fantastic home and awesome tour. Even a private piano concert. Really well done. We recommend this highly
Not sure what to say.started at visitor center and walked on a path for a bit, found a sign saying house or was it.walked for a spell, found some water and eight turkeys came out of the prairie grass.walked for another bit and came to an service road, still no house.turned around, walked back to vehicle and left.
We picnicked in the Visitors' Center's lovely surroundings, then took the tour. A treasure for Iowa and all FLW fans. Nathan was a terrific guide. Very highly recommended. If you need a trail map for the rest of the park, there's one at the Center which will probably be on the website soon.
A very good place for the Frank Lloyd Wright fan to visit.
Be prepared that it can be rather warm inside the house.
We were so fortunate to stumble upon Cedar Rock! En route to Sioux Falls, SD, we had no idea this masterpiece existed near Quasqueton, Iowa (in spite of being FLW devotees). The director, Katie, and tour guide, Nathan, were both incredibly knowledgeable and gracious. After touring the home (seeing a dress designed by FLW for Agnes Walter and lingering in the stunning garden room), we visited the boathouse (currently being restored), and the council fire site. Iowans have been exceptional caretakers of this iconic estate!
Very interesting house, beautiful setting. Your guide was very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
The Walter House at Cedar Rock is a MUST SEE Wright house. This is our 7th house on a cross country "Wright House Tour" and definitely one of our favorites. A definite hidden gem. Barb our guide was great and definitely loves the house, the Estate and her job. Do make the effort to to stop by and see Wright's work and do try and support the Friends as they maintain this extraordinary place!
Pleasant ride on a tractor down to a historical home built from 1948-1951. Beautiful prairie, amazing home, and intriguing story. Certainly worth the drive. The tour of the home is 30min guided and 15min self guided.
