Econo Lodge, Ames IA

Our 'smoke free' room reeked of smoke. We were looking under the bed for earbuds and found a cigarette butt and lots of dirt. Hasn't been swept in a long time.
Wanted to use the pool but the owners' kids were all over it so we didn't go back after the first night.
I don't think I will be using an Econolodge any time soon.

$197 for a room was pricey for an economy room. I felt I was price gouged. It was Iowa/Baylor weekend. I was traveling just trying to get home. I wasn't there to party. The guest above us was very loud. Stomped around half the night.

We reserved two rooms here six months ago, for September 2nd and 3rd because of game day rates and availability usually being high and unavailable anywhere else. This will be the last time we stay here. We expect it to be simple rooms with the basics due to what kind of hotel it is, but the minimum expected wasn't even here. The rooms were filthy and damaged, the AC cover fell off at night, when it actually worked. The microwave and clock/radio was missing, the phone didn't work, the smoke detector was covered with a plastic bag either because someone previously smoked in here or some form of malfunctioning unit, the bathtub was full of hair and looked like it hasn't been properly cleaned in months and it would not drain so we got to take a bath while showering. The worst part was waking up to everything in the room feeling damp and smelling musty.

Staff is very polite! Rooms are nice and I enjoyed the shower. The A/C needs updated, but it still does the job when it's not over 95F I'd stay again

Great hotel. Clean rooms, working pool, nice breakfast, and staff is great. Very nice hotel for the price and amenities.

Overall, it met and slightly exceeded my expectations. It’s an Econo Lodge, I didn’t expect five star. I expected a clean place to sleep with a few amenities - and that’s what I got. It was definitely dated but they seemed to be remodeling. The pool worked and the kids enjoyed it. I called several hotels ahead of time to ask questions about the pool and breakfast, the lady at this location was by far the nicest and most helpful. Room had a mini fridge and microwave, both worked. Breakfast was waffles, biscuits and gravy, cold cereal and a few boxed pastries - again, it did the job. A few friends stayed at another similarly priced hotel near by - and I was glad I picked this one.

Great staff good location lots of major stores and restaurants 3 miles away rooms have the most terrifying musty smell tore my sinuses to pieces got a major headache from the smell but the price was pretty good guess I got what I paid for

Fluctuating prices during a single stay, a pretty sketchy area, and a dog across the hall that wouldn't shut up got me to find a new hotel

THE ECONO LODGE TURNED OUT TO BE A REALLY ENJOYABLE PLACE CLEAN NICE COMFORTABLE ROOM QUIET, FRIENDLY STAFF, ACCOMMODATING WILL STAY THERE AGAIN!

I came here two weeks ago and met a gentleman named Joe, him and Ashley (I believe she was their head housekeeper) went above and beyond to make our stay fabulous. She even went as far as bringing my grandson breakfast because the employees where the ones using their checks to keep breakfast flowing and they no longer could keep up. Those two where taking from their families (that are currently homeless in the motel to take care of the guest) I've never met such humble people that where so down on their luck. I come to check back in Monday, a few days ago and it was utter chaos. The new owners have rocked these people's worlds. The people that kept their property going with their own money! They are rude, short with you and have manners at all. It was so obvious both Joe and Ashley as well as the others were frantic. Having kids and families to worry about and the new owners have basically thrown them to the street and people are not even getting checks. I would have recommended this hotel to the whole Olympic Committee I run, but now I just pray for the families that got used and thrown the the curb. I'll never step foot on that property again. I'll stay at moter Lodge

Nice clean place. Disappointed that they didnt have the pool or breakfast due to Covid definitely would have picked somewhere else, as this was the main reason for picking this stay.

Terrible experience. My rooms weren’t available until 10 PM. The pool was non-functional. The free continental breakfast was shut down with no indication from the front desk before hand, leaving a few dilapidated vending machines for food. The rooms were marginally clean once we could get in. There were still spots of dried urine on the toilet. The front staff, while some were polite, seemed rather clueless. While others were gruff and rude. The ownership of this hotel has changed, and I can safely say you should avoid at all costs.

Dirty dirty rude employees this is a fake hotel suppose to be part of the choice hotels this place is a joke don't stay here people pop the windows at night and stay in the rooms I've found used needles oh and they didn't pass there inspection they failed

No. Just don't. Spend a little more and go to one of the nearby hotels that have their act together. Rooms were overbooked and our room was never cleaned after the previous guests left. It smelled. We had to change the bedding ourselves. The room was super overpriced to begin with and we recieved no discount or comps. Don't take a chance on this place. Just avoid it.

Several people back at desk with keys that didn't work. When we finally got in our room it was already occupied by someone else. Bedding dirty.very disappointing. We decided we would rather drive 2 hours home at 11pm.

If you enjoy being safe and keeping your things. I advise not staying here until they find different staff. 5-10 of us we robbed by an employee. Cops had to be involved.

Our room was triple booked so someone before us was assigned to this room. Then the room was supposedly cleaned (it was empty) and we were booked there (we didn't know) got keys put our stuff in the room and left. Came back a bit later to someone else sleeping in our room and my stuff and the original guys things were all gone.

Other guests things were out in the hallway in garbage bags. Guests I'm sure that had no idea yet. But our things were completely gone. Couldn't get ahold of the housekeeper afterwards. Ended up sleeping in my car till the cops showed up bc we had no room.paid for one.then about 5am we got put in their maintenance room!
For your safety and piece of mind please choose a different hotel. This experience was traumatizing.

The rooms were not the best, with the heaters coming off. They had also painted the bathroom right before we came. One of the rooms had paint peeling off the ceiling. This was a bit of a depressing All-State experience. There was also no breakfast unlike they promised.

Upon entry the check in staff was very polite. The walk to the room was filled with cigarette burned carpet, and the room was worse for wear. Toothpaste was spread across the bathroom door and the towel hanging screw was barely hanging with two gaping holes in the door. The room smelled of 20 years of stale cigarettes. All metal hinges along with the AC showed rust.
I called the front desk so they were aware that I ordered external food delivery. The attendant was short and said if delivery arrived it is not their problem. That delivery will show up at any door with access regardless of card key.

Price gauging is clear due to the fact that it was a home game weekend. A little upkeep and hospitality would have gone a long way.

Cheap rates but when I originally checked in I was told the pool would be closed temporarily so I went ahead and got a room was there almost a week and pool closed the whole time. Ran out of breakfast items so last day it was just juice and coffee. Our last night there we didn't get towels in am but they took our dirty ones went to ask front desk and for approx 40 min I looked for someone even called motel and nothing.
