Hidalgo Mexican Bar and Grill Ankeny

We love this place so much. We went back the following weekend and it's an hour away from our home.

The server was nice, but seemed to have forgotten about our party of 4 most of the time even though we were right by the kitchen door. We only had one drink order taken even though we were there for almost 90 minutes. The meals were brought out separately with about a 10 minute gap. Then our empty plates were on the table for our entire 45 minute chat while we waited to order more drinks or brought our check. Food was OK though. It was NYE and it seemed well staffed, and not that busy. We got a nice round of shots given to us at the end, but no apology or explanation for the sporadic service.

I always give the benefit of the doubt and hopefully any issues can be addressed. It was a nice place overall.

Food is amazing! I've ordered food to go quite a few times. The gentleman on the phone is very kind and polite. Usually give him a tip for being so kind. Big screen tvs above bar if wanting margaritas and watch a game. Good selection of alcohol as well!

I do love this place the margs worth the price you get what you pay for our server was Sal he’s such a nice guy! 10/10

Hidalgo is the best Mexican restaurant in Ankeny! The service is amazing and they’re super quick to take care of everyone! As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted right away and there’s never been a time where they haven’t had a space for us right away! Our servers are always amazing and each one of them consistently checks in on us throughout the time we’re there! Along with great service, they also offer pretty reasonable prices for being in the District of Ankeny. The atmosphere is amazing and so fun and happy all the time! I definitely recommend trying this place out!

An amazing Mexican restaurant! The food was incredible and came out very quickly! The salsa is the perfect level of spicy. The margaritas were delightful and the service was impeccable! Will definitely be stopping back the next time I’m in town!

Unfortunately, it was a bad experience since I came from Houston, we had to be served by a waiter, an adult person with no hair, light brown skin color, rude and abusive, he repeated to us every time we asked for something more food or drink "And they go to want something more because they are silent now or don't say anything anymore" and people like that should not work in this type of places since customers always want something more than what they have ordered on the menu and they should be more welcoming since they live of the tips and the more food is ordered, the higher the bill and therefore the tips will be. And tortilla soup, extremely spicy, for that reason I don't think I will visit the Hidalgo Restaurante again.

Yanci did a superb job. Food was great. My husband chose the chimichanga lunch special and really enjoyed it. Such a large portion, he took half home. I had the seafood enchiladas as they are a favorite. Ambiance was festive and uplifting.

When you go here, be sure to pay attention to how much is withdrawn from your account, even after a few days, the servants are really rude

Yancy was our waitress and did a lovely job. Our drinks were always topped off and the kids enjoyed ice cream bars that was included with their meal.

The food is amazing, the portion sizes are more than enough and Magaly was so attentive to us! We will be back!

Service is always good even when busy. Great food, and prices. We are so glad you came to Ankeny.

Our server Yancy and food were awesome, she regularly checked in at our table and food was fast and hot coming out. Food was 5 out of 5. Highly recommend.

Services and the food is amazing along with Christian and Juan are super attentive and good services and this is why always come back to this restaurant they take care of us when we come here

Juan is fantastic and always goes the extra mile to take care of the guests. Great food, huge portions for good price, and always fast and hot.

We had an incredibly disappointing experience here. We have lived the food and enjoyed coming for special occasions. We came for my sons birthday on a Sunday at 5… it wasn’t busy. 8 of us and our server was so rude. I was actually scared to ask any questions. We sat with empty drinks, barked at us while placing orders. Took so long to get to go boxes that my son went and got them himself. Half our group took payments to the host stand because we waited so long to pay. My family has worked in the service industry for over 20 years and this is the very first time they haven’t left a tip. I regret not asking for a manager, but we just wanted to pay and get out of there. We won’t be back again.
