Highway 63 Diner reviews
17The family friendly menu and atmospheric remain as when Don opened the doors. Excellent/efficient waitress. Reminds me of the years gone by when Waterloo was blessed with a plethora of fine dining restaurants. Keep in mind the fine the era in Waterloo was supported by household income doubled that of the average of other Iowa communities as recently as the 70s.
The price was very affordable. The staff was friendly enough. The food was standard and decent, nothing to rave about. The floor was dirty when we were there, but I guess they were short-staffed. My parents love the place. It's not gourmet and doesn't try to be. If you're looking for comfort food Americana style and reasonable price, this is a solid choice.
Was very embarrassed after recommending this place to my boyfriend.staff was super unorganized and inexperienced.my boyfriend took 2 bites of his food and was finished.we left upset and very disappointed.will not be going there again.
Grouper, corn casserole and three cheese pasta were excellent! Rolls, salad and dressing were excellent as always. Salad dressings are all homemade and amazing!
Here's why. Very busy, which to me, indicates: a local quality, local place. Table turnover was comfortably rapid, no long wait. What we ordered was Ribeye steaks, we were served what turned out to be the Sirloin Special being served that day. Au Jus bathing it had distinct metallic after taste, aluminum, not a fan. No in their defense I observed the limited staff busting their humps to take care of the crowd and they performed exceptionally well. I travel and with Hawkeye Collegians, shall return for another go, on a less busy time to compare, Thanks
I regularly travel across Iowa on highway 20. I stopped at this diner for the first time on Monday Jan. 31,2022. From now on, I am going to time my meals so that this restaurant is the place where hunger gives way to satisfaction. It’s a typical hometown family diner with many regulars. The prices are average and maybe a little less than average but the food is far above. I had a hot beef sandwich, vegetable beef soup, and key lime pie. My mouth is watering now as I recall how excellent the flavor was- of everything! I purchased an additional bowl of soup to go. Someone there really knows how to cook rather than just heat up what comes off the truck. Yes! Definitely! Go to Hwy. 63 Diner!
It was a very good place to eat and the atmosphere was great and the food was very good and it didn't take long it was very busy as well but I made a reservation for the evening otherwise ya gotta wait to get in absolutely worth the stop
Wonderful place, wonderful food, wonderful staff, we were in town for a relative's funeral, we live out of town, when we are back in town, we will definitely stop again.
Stopped in for lunch before leaving town. Friendly staff and very prompt service. I had the 4 piece broasted chicken which comes with salad and roll. The food was fantastic. I will go back the next time I am in Waterloo. I highly recommend this place.
Great fast service Even while busy and all menu items were available except for cake. Sweets were low but otherwise good experience!
Great service. Even though we came in close to closing time they were fast and efficient. Food was fabulous. This place was one of my parents eating spots so I thought if fitting we eat there in honor of my daddy who we will be burying tomorrow.
Thank you.
For my first time me and my wife really enjoyed ourselves plus we thought the food we ordered was very good, thanks much.
Fried pickles were fantastic! French fries are really good. Hot beef was ok, gravy wasn't the best though. Double bacon cheeseburger was good but a little dry.
The sirloin steak is the best cut of meat and was cooked to perfection my husband ordered the giant pork Dinner and my sirloin was 12 oz amazing waitress don't remember her name but she was pregnant and she was the best waitress we have ever had. I would recommend highway 63 diner to everyone in iowa. Best restaurant is best from Minneapolis to Iowa City. Chrissy Wright
I placed a carry out order at 6: 05 pm they said it would be about 30 minutes I show up at 6: 30 and wait get my food at 7: 00 once I get home my 3 cheese pasta with chicken is warm but disgusting the pasta and the chicken the garlic bread is cold the cheeseburger is very good but cold along with cold fries and a 6 dollar sliver of cheesecake is about the size of my thumb I doubt I'll ever go back at least I had a gift card so it doesn't sting that bad
Had the prime rib Ruben sandwich it was kitchen leftovers very little if any prime rib slopp together very disappointed did not eat it
