Hilton Garden Inn Des Moines/Urbandale, Johnston IA

We stay at the Hilton Garden Inn when ever we visit our our grandkids, daughter and son in law, in Urbandale, Iowa.
We feel it is our home away from home. I cannot remember the gentleman’s name that makes us great breakfasts but he always waves and greets us.hello, it is good to see you again and he is genuine. The person who has served us that past few times greets us as well. It makes us feel so welcomed. We love seeing them as well!
The hotel is always clean and comfortable.
We look forward to our next trip there!

My wife an I stayed here March 24,2023. We opted to stay in the room with the jacuzzi tub.
We purposely altered our plans to stay for breakfast. When we came into the lobby. The waitress ushered us to have a seat and she would be with us. We sat the waitress came over promptly, she told us that they have all you can eat menu and recited what was on the menu, as well said they have personalized options we could choose from.
We opted for the buffet as it had a lot of options and seem to be very good food. She then told us that it is $12 each, confusingly I ask her it's free with the room, correct? She said no sir. I'm sorry it is not, very confused. I said ma'am, I had the most expensive room in this motel. Why is the food not free? Confused. She said let me check on that. She comes back and says indeed sir, you did have the most intuitive room but the food does not come with the room. In total shock after spending $271 on a room. I thought this was outrageous. I have never stayed in a motel where they asked me to pay for my breakfast. As far as the cleanliness the staff I thought it was great but absolutely one star from me. If I could do negative stars I would. This is ridiculous!

Friendly staff specially the breakfast area. They have all the amenities and very clean. Highly recommended.

The hotel was perfect for us. The rooms were modern, comfortable, and clean. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. The pool was small but the perfect size for our family. Breakfast was top notch and again, the service was excellent. I would definitely stay there again!

Nice room. Right next to Texas road house. My room didn't have a remote but the gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and kind also printed a receipt for me which was very helpful

Had planned on staying here, and we arrived in the middle of a snowstorm. Rooms were available, but going quickly as the staff was short for so many sudden stopping in to get out of the storm, about 6/7 unexpected inches.

Clean, everything in room worked and cash bar breakfast, eggs, etc.

We will stay again on our next visit.

Our experience has been less than. Unfortunately, the employees need customer service training: how to speak to PAYING Guests.
The Chef at breakfast was exceptional with a positive attitude, however the host (Cashier) clearly has prejudices, and needs to find a new career. Her behavior is unacceptable, not to mention rude!
She used epithets with reference to me.as I walked away from the breakfast area.
The room is okay.

Everything was satisfactory and everything was clean and the service was great. Not a big fan of the decore though.

This hotel is clean, comfortable, and close to many good restaurants and things to do. We really enjoyed our stay!

I've stayed at the Urbandale location several times and the rooms are always impeccably clean. The only gripe is the heating/cooling system is so old it makes noise and my unit smelled moldy this time. Will be back.

This is my go to for trips to Johnston Iowa. It is near my work location, has a decent workout room and the rooms themselves are decent. It has a mini fridge, coffee, and plenty of towels. Recent addition to the work out room, a Peloton bike! If that is your thing it's now available.

The location and service were great. I also enjoyed the extensive breakfast options. While the rooms could use a bit more routine upkeep, they were clean, and had a beautiful design.

They really do embody the idea of "Iowa-nice"!

Thanks to the front desk gal (sorry I forgot her name) she made me aware of a special that Hilton was putting on that gave me double night credit- and is the reason I got to Diamond status for the year! I had no idea that Hilton did this kind of promotion, and she showed me where to check on the app!

Lobby is nice, friendly faces.comfortable beds and nice rooms. Bartender Tristan kept us nice and warm with a few of his drink recipes

I arrived late to check into my hotel room and check in was very slow with apologies of slow computer. I carted all of my belongings up to my room to find my key wouldn't work. I first tried calling the hotel 3 times so I wouldn't have to cart my stuff back down, but no one answered. So I cart it back down and find no one at the desk so I yell out "hello, can anyone help me" then see a sign on the counter that says they stepped away. I call the number on the sign and he says he'll be right there, which is another 2 minutes. He prepares another card for me then we both go back up to the room (still carting all my stuff) and it still doesn't work. He says "oh the battery on the door card reader must be dead, this could take a few minutes to fix, would you like to wait here or get another room? " Of course I want another room. So I go back down again with all of my stuff to get a new room as it is now 1: 00 am, and that takes a bit then back up to a new room (yes still carting) and finally get in. He didn't even offer to take my cart back, I had to ask if he could wait and take it back down for me.
The rooms DO NOT have any full length mirrors, just the one above the bathroom counter, which is a pain.
The little fridge froze all of my items. The floors were not carpeted and just a little dirty, one one side of the bed had a nightstand and plug-ins for charging phones, and that one nightstand had an oily film all over it in my room. The shower only had shampoo and no conditioner mounted on the wall. But the worst part of all was when I had the option to sleep in a bit on my final day of staying here, there were cleaning people vacuuming the floor in the room above as well as across the hall, talking and singing and getting garbage bags out noisily right outside my door, all starting before 7: 30am, and the blackout curtain wouldn't go down far enough to block the light from coming into the room, so it was impossible to sleep in just a little. Not impressed.

Overall the hotel seemed nice and the location was convenient.

This hotel was very easy to find, right off the interstate. The room was clean and really cute (very modern color palate and I loved that there was very little carpet!). The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I'd absolutely stay again!
