This Hotel is very pretty and the history behind it is amazing. I highly recommend this Hotel to anyone in Dubuque. There is an AL Capone Suite that is $850 a night. So cool. It is haunted so beware. Travel photographer from Galena, IL

Front desk put in wrong key code had to return to get corrected, linens were soiled but late when noticed cover with pillow case, told front desk “ Total jerk “ his comment “ should have called house keeping “ yea 11 PM we’re going to get dress and wait for someone after traveling all day, don’t think. Better idea do it right and maybe say I’m sorry it happened, better than indifference

Absolutely fantastic experience with Hotel Julien as our wedding reception venue! Nicole was truly spectacular quickly answering many emails and phone calls leading up to our big day and nailing every detail! Pricing was fair and actually easy unlike other venues. There were no hidden charges and simply a price per head for a kind of all inclusive experience. There were different level tiers, but you could also customize what you’d like included (i.e. Extra types of beer, hors d’oeuvres, specialty cocktails, etc). Most of our guests were from out of town, so Hotel Julien was the place to be all weekend. Nicole was kind enough to expand our hotel block when it filled up within the first couple weeks too! Drinks at the riverboat lounge and brunch at Caroline’s right at the hotel were both big hits and great gathering places for our guests. Also the location in the middle of down down made for easy and safe after hour bar hopping on foot. Cocktail hour in the upstairs atrium was an elegant start to the evening, followed by the classic ballroom plated dinner, and ending with a complimentary honey moon suite overlooking the Mississippi. Couldn’t have asked for a better wedding celebration!

Beautiful hotel. If you go I suggest getting the brochure they have outlining some of the history. There are lots of places to sit and relax in the lobby and 2nd floor, where you can just take in the atmosphere. The room itself was nice, but in all honesty wasn't much different than most other hotel rooms. I am glad we spent the extra $ and stayed a night there instead of a cheaper place, and would like to go back again sometime.

Worst hotel employees ever seen in my life, the front desk employes decided on what type of service animal you have, not the doctor or trainer who signed off and awarded you a dog for your needs. I have seizures and

I have family in southwest Wisconsin so I've stayed at the Hotel Julien several times over the years and it used to be my favorite place to stay when visiting. But it's sadly gone downhill in recent years and I don't think I will stay here again.

The pros: the location is great, plenty of free self-parking, very luxurious and cute/comfy lobby, nice history to the hotel. Many of the other nearby choices are holiday inn type places that have tons of attractions for kids that feel overwhelming, whereas the Julien is very calm and relaxed. A nice small pool in the basement, plus room service breakfast starting at 7am and 2 restaurants.

There were 2 big cons that made the stay unpleasant - noise and lack of housekeeping. The hotel is old and if you are a light sleeper, do not stay in one of the queen suites with a separate living room area. Apparently all of them are 712,612 etc.and are RIGHT by the elevators, and the elevators are noisy through the thin bedroom walls. It was noisy every time someone took an elevator in the middle of the night and had to sleep with earplugs and even that didn't totally help. Our AC unit was creaky sounding too, something with the vent, and we couldn't control the AC ourselves in our room or another room family was staying in, usually too cold and couldn't turn off. We tried to change rooms and the staff tried to be accommodating, but they were sold out for all our nights there and we would have had to move a few times. They also changed their policy for housekeeping and only clean the room once every 7 days you stay there but didn't communicate that at check in. When we asked about it they said we had to call in the morning to get on a list to have housekeeping but they didn't get to one of our rooms between 9 and 2 when we had to come back for my son's nap. The second day we got on a list, were out of the room 9 until 3, and still no one came despite a cart parked outside our room for hours. We had to ask front desk again to get on the list for same day light cleaning, they seem to be short staffed.

Nice historic hotel in downtown Dubuque. Steps away from a ton of restaurants and shops. Rooms were small but nice.

Very nice hotel by restaurants and bars downtown. Caroline's was great place for breakfast. Room a little small.

They don’t provide room cleaning! Be aware. Just a bad service experience. They also charged me twice! Wouldn’t recommend this place

Had no temperature control, room was 79.1 degrees when I entered the room. Sticker on thermostat stated that room would be 70 degrees on check-in day. Thermostat did not look like it had any control, so I took a video of the thermostat to show the front desk. I had to go to the front desk and she set my temperature, and when I inquired about changing it in the middle of the night if I was too cold or too hot, she informed me that I'd have to call the front desk to have them change it. This was at 11: 30 at night when I finally arrived after an 18 hour work day. I was not happy my room was nearly 80 degrees. Sleep was terrible since temperature was high and took time to cool down.

Wow! The wedding we hosted on July 22,2023 was AMAZING.
The FOOD was fanastic, the VENUE was absolutely beautiful and the SERVICE was awesome. Definitely recommend working with them! All of our guests commented on these things again and again.
Nicole Link was great to work with on all the details. She gave us a tour of venue, worked out the details on price, blocked out rooms, and was super helpful during the wedding process. We did the per guest price and it worked out well.

We stayed at the Hotel Julien Dubuque for a business conference. It's a pretty nice, restored older hotel close to a lot of attractions in Dubuque. We had a great view of the harbor. Everyone from the front desk to our housekeepers were great to visit with. The food at our conference was pretty good too.

Stuffy. Depressing. Somber. Melancholy feel.
Drab. Dingy. Dull. Dismal. I could go on & on.
Worse than a retirement home or assisted living.
Very outdated. I'm giving one star because it was merely clean (ish)

We loved the historical look and feel of the hotel. The only thing I have to complain about is that we couldn't get the thermostat to work completely. It only wanted to be set higher. We couldn't get the room to cool off completely.
The lady at the desk was great and super helpful. She even heated up my tea in the morning. I guess that is one thing to mention, too. There was no microwave in our room. But that wouldn't stop us from staying again.
