Iowa State Capitol reviews
19It's a very pleasant experience to intimately getting to know the political legacy of Iowa. Totally recommend to anyone who hasn't been there. My parents and I are from Pakistan so for us it was an extremely refreshing experience - openness and freedom - those are the two biggest emotions I felt as I walked through the halls of the Capitol and read the clear laws and inscriptions that exist to ensure freedoms are always protected
Do yourself a go or and take the guided tour! Amazing tour guides. PROTIP: wear your walking shoes. 92 steps up to the whispering gallery.
The state Capitol is a very beautiful must see experience if you love history and architecture. Everywhere you look there is something beautiful to see.
Wow! Such a beautiful building! So impressed with the free tour! Even got to see Governor Reynolds when we were there to visit!
The historic and impressive Iowa state capitol is worth a visit! There are guided tours on the half hours, or you can walk the halls yourself. Enjoyed both chambers of the legislature, and the law library.
What an amazing building. This place is beautiful. Every staff member that we encountered was outstanding. The librarian in the law library was incredibly informative and gave us quite the educational experience.
Really awesome building and cool history.
Super iconic and really beautiful up close and far away with its gold dome.
Really cool other art and statues nearby to check out as well
Fantastic architecture! What a wonderful place to work for the legislators. Amazing that there's only three microns of gold covering that dome.interesting significance of the gold dome across America's capitals.
Loved the guided tour. Even one of our kids said: “I thought it was going to be boring, but it wasn’t. ” The tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommend.
Stunning! Don’t miss the law library.
We did a self guided tour, but we saw guided tours taking place. Plenty of parking available.
One of my favorite capitol buildings sofar,
We did the tour again and it was amazing! Lot of detailed explanations, recommend doing it because thats a good way to lern and ask the right person if you got questions
We visited here from Louisiana and this tour was the best! We learned so much about Iowa's history from the hour tour of the capital building and loved every minute of it. My youngest daughter and I went back a 2nd time on a different day simply to see it once again since it was so neat the first time after we took the tour and learned about the building. The 2nd time we wondered alone and took our own time to view and take pictures of things. We went all the way to the top. On the tour we climbed all the stairs and I realized how out of shape I was on the way up since I had to stop a rest halfway up the stairs going to the top of the tower. The library was one of our favorite rooms but the entire building was so rich with history. If you have the opportunity to check out this place out, don't skip it, it's a must see in my opinion and a great free tour! The gift shop was small but was one of the best in town and we got almost all of our souvenirs for our family back home there. I swear I bought the cutest Keychain in all of Des Moines here too!
Wow, another place that really is as good as the reviews say. The 4.8 star rating is totally justified. The free tour is amazing. They give a 90 minute tour of most of the building including the old high court room, the parliamentary room, law library and right up to the top of inside the dome, the accurately-named Whispering Floor. The guide was really friendly and answered everyone's strange and obscure questions.
The restrooms are clean and tidy and the gift shop is actually well-priced!

Was the first man who had a shoe shine stand & even came up with the idea as well to offer his shoe shine & repair services in the beautiful
(IOWA STATE CAPITOL)
Be extra careful when brown.
An old hag at the front desk turn me right around after she saw me holding a cup of coffee in the LUNCHROOM. My client loves the historic tours. It's a shame.
Be sure to take the guided tour of this magnificent building. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. This architectural gem won't disappoint.
The representatives here take your rights away whether there's majority support for keeping them or not.
One of the coolest Capitol buildings! Additionally, check out Music Under the Stars, a free concert series that takes place on the steps of the capitol some Sunday's over the course of the summer.
Super big and a fun place to go if your a history geek. Unlike me lol. But I am so grateful to have such a stunning state capital. Unlike every other state. I just wish it was not always under construction.lol
But definitely a 10 of 10.
