MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center

No one checked our family members vitals, for hours. They r in here for a very low oxygen level. No one has come (even when called) to help him to the bathroom or provide a urinal.
No food even though here for hours. No breakfast. No doctor has come by. No communication on what is planned for today.
We have seen two people working on the fifth floor even though we are told this place is full. Coffee shop permanently closed for us who need to be here.
The one person who did come in and talk was condescending.
Do not come here!

My sister has been in this hospital for almost 2 weeks. She had surgery 9/19 that went smoothly but the care is RIDICULOUS. Nurses are using THEIR judgment on when she should get her pain meds and Ativan when it is specified in her chart the times to give them to her. My mom has requested to speak to a doctor/hospitalist THREE TIMES and all the nurses say is “okay” and then nobody comes. The nurses have to text the doctor before they do anything? WHAT ARE CHARTS FOR IF YOU STILL NEED TO ASK PERMISSION TO DO WHAT IS STATED IN SAID CHART!? !? !? My mom even overheard a couple of them “gossiping” about my sister and her case at the nurses desk. COMPLETELY unprofessional. Would not AT ALL recommend this hospital, or atleast 5th floor care.

The nurses and Dr on the 5th floor you were all amazing! After experiencing Mecry downtown I was scared but u guys proved that not all nurses are bad! Even though you are short staffed you performed as if you weren’t! Amazing! You guys were so good words cannot explain how your kindness helped me heal faster!

11 months later and I’m still waiting for a refund on over payment. I have called a couple times a month for resolution. Supervisors never called back when they said they would. Supposedly the check was sent July 5th but I have yet to see it. Very disappointed in their abilities.

My Nephew has been waiting for 3 hours he got hit in the eye with a disc he's a diabetic. They have not ru 1 test yet what is the problem

The emergency room and surgical staff were extremely helpful and professional. I received excellent care from heated blankets to an extra pudding cup

I was released. And given another appointment. The address of my new appointment was wrong.

I had a very bad experience there almost 2 years ago. It started with a doctor who treated my thoughts on my own health with contempt and it continues today with repeated contacts by collectors. I don't lack money and am ready and able to pay my debts, but when a stranger calls me from an unfamiliar number, I am not eager to give them my credit card number. I paid the last contact, now I have another one. What is wrong with you folks? Talking your patients yourself too much for you?

UPDATE: When I tried calling the number the owner posted, it just keeps rolling to voice mail. They said they "take my feedback to heart, " but it sure doesn't seem like it.

UPDATE: I received an email from a new collections company (accidentally found in my spam folder) demanding more money. This is the THIRD COMPANY asking for money for MercyOne West. I haven't even been in their building in 3 years. Rather than contact me about one bill, I keep getting random companies demanding money here and there. I just want to get on with my life. Stop bothering me!

UPDATE: After many phone calls, between two different Mercy offices, I was able to pay my bills. One rep was really helpful, the other became rude with me because I was late on my bill (I was only late because I didn't know I owed money. I moved to a new place, set up mail forwarding, but never received any bill. They ignored that I had a phone number and email address on file where they could have contacted me. I guess it's easier and more desirable to send me to collections than the 3 seconds it would take to dial my phone number).

Busy place, please don't bring your entire family. They will drive sick and pained people crazy. Small waiting room.

Person on the phone was profoundly unhelpful, so we went to UnityPoint instead. They were great.

My mother had to have surgery she was sent to Mercy 1 she is here now. I arrived from Wisconsin as fast as I could to be with her. The surgery went fine. But the care here is UNREAL! What was unreal? IS there is NONE! Myself and my siblings and her granddaughter are taking care of her. Her bag of urine even over flowed onto the floor before I arrived. She asked for a walk. Over 3 hrs later, she still had no walk! She was in severe pain and asked for her pain medication it took them over an hour to finally bring it. We are getting her up to go to the restroom, and one of us has to stay here overnight to take care of her and her needs! The nurse we had last night was the only one who seemed to care and was truly remorseful that she couldn't do more. She wasn't even from this God awful places she is a traveling nurse. They 'Say Sorry they are so short staffed' Management seems to think this is all right? Pay the caregivers what they are worth! And get staffed because I have documented everything, and if my mother gets worse or gets an infection due to the lack of care at Mercy One West, management will be sorry!

Really disappointed that they still not accepting minor to maternity area when all hospitals do

Had surgery last Monday at Mercy West. Linda who prepped me for that was very thorough. And thank you Breana, Lisa, Melinda, Phil and Taylor for taking such good care of me while I was there.

The hospitalist dr stan.h, should be removed from her position made in regard to mistakes of discontinuing meds which were essential to a diabetic. Who oversees this important position should look in to this further.

Tonight the lady with a full sleeve tattoo who initially takes the vitals for incoming ER patients not only told my African American girlfriend she shouldn’t have came an made an appointment with her regular doctor she came into the lobby an said her condition outloud in front of the lobby very unprofessional and not appreciated!
