Monarch -Kitchen & Bar reviews
16First off this place would not have been as good as it was if it wasn’t for our server Grant H! Oh my goodness he knew everything, he was funny, charming, knowledgeable, and made amazing recommendations! First time I’ve never ate at a restaurant and didn’t take home leftovers! I ate everything from the appetizer, to dessert and two delicious alcoholic drinks! We will be coming back and hopefully we will get Grant again but all the staff seemed friendly and very knowledgeable! From the guy who brought us out wines to the server who brought us out knives oh I’m sorry our “weapon of choice” which I loved! I would dine here every weekend if I could! Please go for the food AND the experience!: 3
I tried the peppercorn steak burger and it was truly one of the best burgers I have ever had anywhere. I also tried the truffle fries and they were the best truffle fries that I have ever had. This place seems to have extremely good food and brings it out hot…which is huge! Amazing, amazing food!
Stopped by for a quick lunch and was very happy we did! The food was delicious and the service was great! We had a couple of appetizers and each had a sandwich. Next time we go we will go for dinner.
It’s our 14th wedding anniversary. Just simple good Carpaccio is all we craved. Had never eaten at Monarch. So we got it as take out. Even if it was a bit pricey. Only to get home and they forgot the toppings and the baguette slices. Drive back another 25 minutes for it. Rude front desk on the phone and the front desk young lady in person. Sorry we were hoping for better service… even with take out. It wasn’t a complicated order at all, as I stated just some good Carpaccio to have with our home cooked meal. Well… it was mediocre and probably would of been great if it was correct. But we laugh…that’s life I guess.
One of the best burgers I've ever had - my wife has Celiac and their menu is very gluten free friendly. She loved the orange chicken. Awesome service and interior design as well.
First & foremost, the decor and appearance is phenomenal & decoratively modern. The food is amazing, our server was just second to none on being tentative, and the staff as a whole are just awesome! The servings are of an intelligent proportion in that you do not feel guilty in asking for desert. If you want to experience an amazing dining experience, then Monarch is the place where you want to be.
Had a very good impression during our first visit. Food was great and the restaurant had very nice, upscale atmosphere. Would definitely go back.
Update: We have visited a few more times for dinner since. Foods are definitely 5+ stars - we travel a lot and this restaurant at a small town in Iowa is far better than restaurants in many metropolitan areas.
We loved Monarchs Grill! The menu was innovative, lots of healthy, fresh options! Fabulous ice tea. Everything was amazing. Love the modern decor of the restaurant too! Being from Chicago, was very reasonably priced! We will be back!
A little bit of a late review as I made by unsatisfactory visit Friday evening to there bar, which the hostess said would be able to take us since my date and myself didn’t have a reservation.
Took a bit for the bartender Jamie to get to us since it seemed she had her hands full with drink orders, gave her the benefit of the doubt. After ordering the wine and beef carpaccio was pretty good. However our bartender Jamie must have decided to take her break without being kind enough to cover steps of service and let us know she’d be stepping away and someone else would take care of us instead. Well she missed that step completely as well as there was no one else to cover taking care of the customers. There was however a gentleman behind the bar that must have been too busy trying to close out his tickets to pay any attention to the customers around the bar.
For the prices that this place charges you’d think they’d level up their customer service but they definitely fail in that category or at least the bar staff does.
We went at dinner time and both ordered steaks (New York strip, filet, and shared tuna tartar) after hearing some very positive reviews. The atmosphere was nice and didn’t have to wait much longer then 20 minutes for a table without a reservation. Both steaks were delicious and my fries on the side were alright, I would have liked something else to complement the quality of the steak a little better but that’s just my preference. The tuna tartar was good as well. We had a black walnut old fashion as our drink and were very pleased over all. It is fairly expensive but I would say the best quality steak restaurant we have tried in Iowa thus far.
Everything was very expensive for food and drinks that were good not great. I would return. However will not be in any hurry to do so.
Best experience I’ve ever gotten at a restaurant- Cedric is the man and always stays attentive of the guests! The food is second to NONE. The desserts there just melt in your mouth and never disappoint. I can’t stop recommending Monarch to literally everyone I come across—and I don’t like to over exaggerate when recommending places.
The food is awesome. The service is excellent. But you can also get the 90% of the food taste and service for half the cost elsewhere. Would recommend it if you want to feel very bougie.
Instead of trying to be good at lots of stuff. Matt has decided to be GREAT at a smaller menu of options.
It works! The food is really great and portions are good sized.
Atmosphere has a nice casual, but professional feel.oh, and their signs are super nice too!
The atmosphere is really nice, and had great service, though it's hard for me to justify the price tag for this upscale place
Food and service are excellent. Great and multiple gluten free options. Love the atmosphere. And you have to try an espresso martini! To die for!
