Orchard Green Restaurant and Lounge reviews
21Anniversary dinner with friends. Wonderful old wood paneling (original) and high (20ft) ceilings. Food was excellent and served by competent and friendly wait staff. Would highly recommend!
Now with a $3 credit card fee, a sad practice that has crept from the bar scene into an otherwise fine restaurant. Traditional fine dining, attentive service, posh atmosphere, clean settings. Food is exceptional.
Food was great! Service was great! But you lost our business by charging a credit card convenience fee without notifying us! By the way this was not the case when we ate here less than 20 days ago as I still have that receipt! As a local business owner, my family and I have dined here forever and loved the food and the atmosphere. We spent $500-700 each time we eat here and consider it a gem and a very classy place for Iowa city area! But, this all changed as of 10 minutes ago when I spend $500 on a dinner for my family and saw a CC convenience fee added to our bill! Not classy at all! What you did is illegal in state of Iowa! You need to be transparent with your customers at first, but you are not! Also, when you charged $30-40 for a plate for food in Iowa city, and mark up your bottles of wine 100% or more, we bought two for almost $200, you don’t have the right to give us those fees and deduct it at the end of tax the season! That by any definition is called double dipping! I absolutely will not tolerate businesses like yours. You may call it what you want, but what you’re doing is an attempt to screw your customer base. I hope the cc convenience fee was worth it to you. Because, you have lost my support and are receiving a bad review. This is especially upsetting when one realizes that the restaurant industry benefited from the highest amounts of COVID relief money!
I got the shrimp sweet potato gnocchi. The shrimp were large but didn't seem super fresh. I realize this is the Midwest so I understand the ocean is distant. The other flavors in the dish didn't pop too well either. For the expectation of an upscale restaurant and its associated price, I was a little underwhelmed.
Our experience with the Orchard Green was amazing. Our server, Nathan, was friendly and was very attentive. The food was phenomenal, and the oatmeal pie suggested to us is out of this world. Very great evening!
I heard they had one of the best steaks in Iowa, not true. Ordered medium rare, came rare, cold and chewy, dissapointed. The crab cakes however were delicious.
What a great find, the food was beyond expectations. The service was outstanding and my wife has a dairy and onion allergy and the chef accommodated her needs with modifications that integrated with the meal. I am not one to write reviews but this experience was awesome and its nice to be able to write a positive review
Excellent dining experience with exceptional service. The crab cakes where amazing with such a variety of flavors and sauces plus cilantro and lemongrass. The berries dessert with sorbet was also truly unique and delicious.
Very nice restaurant, food and service we're excellent. This is NOT a shorts and flip-flops / bar food kind of place, especially if you're dinning on the upper floor.
I must give complete stars because the food and service are excellent- also the people are extremely pleasant. I’d like to note that they are regular nice people and will make mistakes. I wish, however, I could give negative stars because I couldn’t get a table on the day I wanted it though I called early and often. But that would be dishonest and run counter to my current effort in these dark days to confine myself to writing positive reviews for those that deserve them.
The cheese board is uniformly outstanding. Every entree has been well prepared and the wait staff and kitchen are creative and accommodating when it’s possible to tweak a menu item to make it gluten free
The menu here was extremely impressive and the food didn't disappoint. Definitely worth trying and we intend to go back.
Please treat yourself to this restaurant! Orchard Green has consistently excellent food. The menu doesn’t change often, but they have perfected what they serve. Sit downstairs for a more laid back vibe, and upstairs if you want the feeling of a fancier meal. This is the kind of place I enjoy on date nights, and not necessarily a place I want to take my children. I always order the vegetable risotto, or the whitefish. They’re both absolutely delicious! The crab cakes are the best I’ve had!
This place is worth the hype. Absolutely delicious with a great atmosphere and friendly service, they simply can’t be beat.
The food was delicious! Went here for our anniversary and it was well worth it. My camera is very broken so please excuse the poor quality. My fiance had a tomahawk steak and I had the duck. Both were wonderful. Desert was so rich and the raspberries really topped it off!
We hosted my son's rehearsal dinner at Orchard Green last weekend. The staff was very accommodating and the food was amazing. Everyone just raved about how great it was. Thank you!
“My steak knife was dull, 1-star” a lot of these low star reviews are hilarious.
Ate here for my birthday on a Saturday night, Maddie was our server and did a great job. I got filet mignon, which was delicious and cooked perfectly. The brussels were good and very rich as an appetizer. (The lady didn’t want the escargot like I did)
The restaurant has very high ceilings and large windows so it can get loud in there, yet you’ll always be able to hear people at your table. We were there during a thunderstorm which felt quite neat.
This was a great meal and easily one of the best I’ve had in Iowa City. You can be picky and CHOOSE to find something to complain or enjoy your delicious meal and enjoy a nice night together.
My only complaint was the potato thing had a hard crust on the bottom that my steak knife could not cut through.
Orchard Green is an amazing restaurant. They have a great variety of food and some great deals during the week. You can find downstairs for a more casual dining experience or eat upstairs for a more formal experience
This place never fails to bring out their best. Celebrated our daughter’s birthday there on 2/12 in the lower level. Both food and service was excellent.
Expensive, but good food. The atmosphere is nice, and staff were very formal/professional. We ordered a cheese board, two entrees, two desserts, and two drinks. We liked everything except for one side. The portions were smaller/closer to actual portions I'd eat at home, so we didn't leave with any leftovers.
It was a little too quiet/stuffy/formal for my liking, so I don't see myself going back. I can see why some people would want to go there, though. If you want that fine dining experience to celebrate something special, then this place would probably be what you're after.
My boyfriend and I had a lovely dinner here for the last night of his visit here. We shared the Brussels sprouts, an order of focaccia, and the ribeye steak. I had the hot and filthy martini (pictured 3rd) as well as a cranberry manhattan - so good! He had the signature orchard green martini (pictured second). Nathan, our server, was so polite and provided stellar service the whole meal. Can't wait for my next visit.
My one, very tiny complaint - the pours of the draft beers are just too foamy. I wouldn't order a beer. Just get one of their signature cocktails instead.
