8Beautiful park with wonderful trails and access to the river. Watch out for fairy circles.
Go under the tunnel to the right, and there is a river crossing. Great place to splash with the dog and a quiet road we like to walk up. There are also tons of beautiful hidden trails and camping here. We have not camped here, but the sites do look pretty good.
My wife and I Camp Hosted in 2021 from Memorial Day to November 1st. It was a FANTASTIC experience! Only 6 miles from town, with solid cell coverage, and all the nature one could want. The F4 tornado in March 2022 did a number on several tees, but the park staff are just as resilient and work tirelessly to clear fallen trees.
Traveling with friends from TN to WY and needed a last minute place to camp, late on a Saturday evening. Online booking showed camp as full, but called Camp host and Scott was able to contact campers that didn't show and get us 2 spots! Thank you Scott! Beautiful area to camp, highly recommend!
This is a wonderful park with nice facilities and who doesn't love the ford? ! We always enjoy our visits and hikes.

Pammel State Park is the perfect mix of scenic bliss, cat fishing, and family fun. During spring, the park comes alive with wildlife and blooming foliage. At any given time over the summer, you can find kids spashing and playing at the ford and folks cooking out at one of the many beautiful lodges or picnic areas. In the fall, you can see every shade of yellow, orange, and red as the leaves turn. The landscape of Pammel Park in the fall looks like something you'd see out on the cover of a nature magazine. During the winter, the park traffic slows down, but that doesn't mean the views do. It is not uncommon to see ice sheets slowly gliding over the ford or to spot bald eagles chirping away perched in their nests. The restrooms are always kept clean, and the park in general is very clean. If you're from Winterset, then you know how great this place is. If you're not from Winterset, then come find out how great it is.
