Petco, Ames IA

I absolutely love to bring my Shih Tzu to Presley at Petco! She’s been grooming her for a couple years now and my dog is 3. Presley always takes the time to ask me before she takes her back to make sure what I want done because I change her length of her coat and ears depending on the time of year. I love her attention to Gertie and Gertie loves her. I just say we’re going to see Presley she comes running a climbs in her backpack all excited, she is always happy to see her at the salon to Happy Tails! See Presley at Petco for your dog too you won’t regret it.

I love the service and the products they have! The staff is very knowledgeable about their products and animals. Very nice to deal with.

Searching for a bark collar for a dog. They have decided they will not be selling them anymore. So I decided I wouldn't be shopping there anymore.

Pals rewards and vital care are. My only recommendation is they start carrying more decor for the reptiles aquariums/ habitats

Very kind and patient staff considering how difficult it is for any retailer to keep cat food and litter in stock these days. They probably get berated at least once a day by someone who thinks Petco is at fault. Kudos to them for working so well under such stress!

Loved how they cut our girls hair but unfortunately due to a “system error” they cancelled my appointment as i walked in the door due to my dog being 3lbs over weight for the groomer. Drove from out of town with a dog who has major car anxiety and the manager Levi didn’t seem to give two Fs about the inconvenience to me or my dog. Not an apology, any sort of “we will do what we can to fix this” just a “well you are scheduled for next week, was there anything else i can help you with”.

Megan is amazing! She so patient with my doggo, who is very exitable. She explains everything very well, and is just so sweet with my 100lb baby!

Took our 2-year old Havanese here for the first time. She had a few mats - and they ended up basically shaving her from her neck down. Fluffy face, fluffy tail. And they even charged me extra ahead of time for "Extra brushing time" because of a couple mats.but then ended up shaving her. She looks like a large rat. Extremely disappointed in PetCo. No knowledge of dog breeds and how they should be cut.

I go here for everything including grooming and bathing my two cats. I love there groomer Susan and the rewards program.

I love the cut my groomer Tina does for my Yorkie, I love the care she gives my dog. She goes above & beyond to see my dog gets excellent service. PETCO in Ames Iowa always gives me great service. I wished all stores was like this store.

I come a lot to this petco and I have more than 10 tanks in my home (10 gal, 40 gal, 75 gal tank, etc) so I come a lot to this petco. They have been giving me a hard time. They wouldn't sell me a fish after seeing me multiple times. Kept asking me questions like I'm lien about what I have in my home. Attitudes garbage, Customer service garbage, and most of their fish CANT breathe. Workers act like they can't see someone needs help. Standing around talking, not helping us. They act like they care about the fish they are selling but got dead fish floating around. Worrying about the wrong stuff.

Presley is LuLu's groomer and I love and appreciate how caring she is with our almost 9 year old Golden. She does a great job and is very patient with Lu wanting to wriggle around or sit down. She's the BEST!

Not sure who the employee was helping me today because of no name tag (s), but I've been shopping here forever and always get the largest bad of food for my kitties once a month. It isn't written on the chalk board for brands that the 8th bag of food is free program, so I didn't think my brand was included. Turns out, I should have been getting those points, but it wasn't activated in my rewards account and no one had told me until today! I hope whoever sees this asks who it was, she was incredibly helpful.

Took my cat to be groomed here on the 14th as well, first time, and she did an AMAZING job!

Solid pet store, mostly clean, friendly staff. Definitely one of the better pet stores in terms of variety of products.

Went to Petco while visiting Ames from Storm Lake, to get a couple things for my kitties… was browsing around a bit at their animals being kept there and when I tell you tears came to my eyes…. These cats were so unkept and fur looked matter, one kitty’s nose was EXTREMELY dry and crusty, another had slight foaming of the mouth and dried up liquids from earlier I’m assuming. The litter boxes were hidden in the middle, of the closure, unseen but for sure could smell it. I BEGGED my SO to let me adopt these kitties, as I could see how badly they were being taken care of. My SO ended up telling me no because we already have 4 kitties… bummer. The ferrets enclosure was FILLED with feces, it was so disgusting, birds were balding, feathers falling off. I don’t understand how this place was so disgusting. The whole 2 hour ride home I could not get these babies out of my mind. How they were being neglected had my stomach in a knot….

We brought our puppy here for training. The trainer is super knowledgeable and has helped a lot already (we've only had one session). The rest of the staff is friendly and was great with our puppy too.

Addendum: Since my original review I have continued to shop here. The staff continues to be helpful and great with my dogs. This is one of my dog's favorite places to go because they love meeting people and the staff and customers never disappoint. While not specific to the Ames location I do appreciate that Petco has updated their stock selection so that it contains healthier options (it makes me more confident in the food and treats I select).
