Ramada by Wyndham Des Moines Tropics Resort & Conference Ctr

This place was disgusting. Torn carpet. Rusted out vents and electrical going to smoke alarm and every other electrical coverings. Bathroom door doesn't shut. Lambs rusted. Hotel states on their site 100% smoke free but everywhere I went i smelled marijuana. Slides not working. Not worth the price for sure and I would never stay here again.

What a sad sad decline of something that could be a great attraction. The only thing that keeps it from a 1 star rating is that the staff working there is trying their best. Management has clearly failed this place. Why are the slides not working for so long? There's no excuse for a place that hasn't been around for that long.

The building is older but it's been maintained well. The rooms are clean and every member of staff I've spoken to has been courteous and helpful. If you have kids, they'll probably love the pool area and there's a pizza place attached if you don't want to drive anywhere for food. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I'll stay here again!

Pools were clean, and the kids had fun. The rooms seriously need deep cleaning. There were kids running up and down the halls, screaming, until about 10pm. Somebody called a noise complaint on my room, while I was sitting there reading a book, so that was interesting. Staff definitely won't win any customer service awards.

Bed were typical hotel beds but very firm. Someone had thrown up by the pool area and it had taken forever for someone to come and clean it up

The rooms are WAY outdated! Then they tried to charge me for damages to the room that we didn't even cause, absolutely ridiculous. Sucks that I had to pay over $120 for a night when both waterslides were down, and service at the desk and at the pool were horrid. I had to save MY OWN DAUGHTER from nearly drowning, while the lifeguard watched, but the same lifeguard thought it'd be okay to judge me as a parent for allowing my 2 year old to PUT HIS FEET IN THE HOTTUB!? Won't be staying here again.

Had a very nice time amazing facility. The front desk staff went out of their way to help me. Just good stuff.

Made reservations about 3 weeks in advance with a friend for pool side rooms right next door to each other. We get there and our rooms are on the backside of the building.not pool side rooms.and they weren't right next door to each other. We also had a couple of other friends that came and stayed also. We were carrying our stuff in to our room and went back to car and the door accidentally shut by itself as it didn't get caught in time. There was a cleaning lady just down the hall and yelled at us not to slam the doors.really! Yet the kids can run up and down the halls hollering at each other! No shower door so everything gets wets on the outside as well when taking showers. Daughter went to use the blow dryer on the wall and got a small zap from it, luckily we had got ahold of one. Had to pay for own breakfast 8.99 I believe it was.most hotels like this have free continental breakfast. They were doing remodeling.painting, drilling and what not. Hardly any outlets in our room, very inconvenient when you have cpap machines and have to charge cell phones and what not.had to go buy an extension cord. No phone in our room so you couldn't even call down to the office. Some of the others had phones but didn't work. One of the rooms that our friends had, the wooden bathroom door came off it's hinges so they had to be moved to another room. Our bathroom door was so loud when you moved it, it was really annoying, plus when you got up at night it would wake others up. Wooden doors shouldn't be used on bathrooms anyways with all the moisture from the showers and what not. WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN!

This hotel was nasty.one of the dirtiest hotels i have ever been to.i came in a group of friends and one of their rooms had a random sweatshirt in the closet and blood stains on the mattress, the bathroom door can’t close.my first room had bugs and random dirt or whatever it is underneath the mattress and we also saw a mouse running in the hallways and go into somebody’s room.the key cards barely work and the doors barely open or close.never again. 0/10

Decent rooms, good room service, nice ppl at the front desk. Gets humid at 1st floor due to water park, very close to highway and other shopping centers n food places.

Erica was wonderful and very attentive at the front desk … Love her. Will be coming back forsure.

At no time were we informed that the water slides and got run have not been working for over a year but we were still charged full price when we booked online. Then we were charged 125.00 dollars at 3am on our incidentals. The gm said they do that incase there is damage that way they have the money up front. So now I've paid for my 2 night stay AND an extra 125 because I'm guilty of damages to my room I just checked into? When I asked about the water slides and hub tub I was informed it's not there problem I can check it and leave. I will say the front desk staff and pool employees are amazing but the management hates ppl and would rather they leave upset and over charged. I hope this reaches everyone and they don't waste time and money on things that they don't even offer but yet advertise.

Do not go here! Key cards wouldn't work for anyone in the hotel, we couldn't get into our room until 9: 30 pm. The manager turned her back and walked away when I was being nice as nice could be. The rooms smell like someone smoked for 20 years then sprayed febreeze. The slides don't work. Our first room we got was full of vodka bottles and completely not cleaned. This place is a disaster. You have been warned

The door closest to our room had no handle. Our electronic key access on poolside, didn't work. The room was set to 49 when we checked in, and bed was very lumpy. The price of the room was $195 and other then the pool, felt more like a $50 room at best. Not a usual quality you would expect from Ramada. The staff was very nice, they would get 5 stars, but the room, hotel, and price drag the rating way down! To bad, because that place was probably top of the line at one point.

Check in staff was amazing but the day time staff front desk management and housekeeping was unruly! The housekeepers knocked and let themselves in at 930 am when not only was there a dnd on the door we also had a late checkout! No compensation for this no care of my ptsd that it caused and no concern of the unethical actions

If it weren't for the pools and Boss pizza (which is a little expensive but amazing), this place might not be around anymore.

The staff was friendly at least.

Highlights of our stay were:
Room was VERY dimly lit with all the lights on.
There was some trash (wrappers) on the floor when we got there.
Water pressure was pathetic, one of the sink handles came off in my hand when turning it on.
The toilet had the wrong size seat on it (circle vs oval)
The big slides were closed as usual, they did let us know before making the reservation at least.

The most disturbing part was it seems the TVs in the pool area aren't "locked down" at all, so anyone with a phone can play whatever they want. We were treated to someone playing a scene where a woman's mouth was being violated fairly aggressively. Luckily there were no younger kids around at the time to see it. There was an employee that noticed it fairly quickly and was right next to the TV, took a little while for them to unplug the TV but at least they handled it.

Great for smaller kids. Anyone over 10 would be bored without friends to entertain them. Wish the slide had been open but I enjoyed the hot tub. Rooms were good, staff was very helpful. Restaurant had great pizza.

As a Wyndam Business card holder, I generally feel really good about booking at these chains.
I very rarely will leave a review, but this place was horrendous.

The good: The restaurant connected to the hotel was an amazing time and the food challenge was attempted by 3 pairs of people we brought there. Really good bar food and the pizza stood up for itself.

The bad: The gimmick here is the indoor water park, as such, there is no breakfast, also, the smell of chlorine is RANCID throughout the building and even leaks into the pool doored rooms. Also included with the "pool crowd" are kids who run in the halls at 1-3 am while their parents yell at them.
Wifi was also out in the part of the building I was staying.

The ugly: There is no ventilation for the showers, there is no locking mechanism on the bathroom door (which is quite awkward sharing a room with a coworker), the picture you see on sight of a bathroom that has a half pane of glass retaining half the shower? Yeah, there is no door on the shower.and the water manages to find its way out on the floor regularly.
One of my coworkers, had a door to the room that would not electronically lock, and people literally walked into her room. When this was brought up to the management, along with the wifi complaint, we were met with deaf ears. Ironically, our coworker had family in the area and stayed with them rather than using the room we paid for that was never fixed.

We were staying as a business and apparently the original card did not work so they currently have charged us all individually for each room's entire stay. FULL PRICE. No discounted rate of any type.

This place makes me regret having anything to do with Wyndam as a franchise, let alone Ramada as a chain.

Sidenote: I feel bad for the 6 life guards who are forced to guard 5 people when it is not the weekend. From what I can see in my stay there, this facility is severely mismanaged.

Avoid unless you are there for a dip.
Because regardless, you will get dipped, one way or another.

I read the reviews before booking the hotel and honestly didn’t expect much. To our surprise the rooms and the entire hotel were fabulous. Rooms were spacious and clean. Lifeguards at the pool we’re fun and attentive. It was definitely one of the highlights of our family vacation. Perfect indoor park for young kiddos.

Staff stole my wife’s hearing aids and set of dog dishes. We left there and called within 1 hour and they said they did not find them. It’s really disgusting know staff was dishonest. Never recommend the place to anyone.
