Red Barn Campground & Restaurant reviews
9Stayed over the 4th of July. Mostly seasonal campers and locals. Staff was mindful and helpful of "outsider". Great place to stay and explore the Mississippi River and scenic drives.
I don't want to give this place away to everyone. But, it is great. Great restaurant, great people and a great little place to camp. And I hate camping, so this is saying a lot for me. Can't wait to come back. Oh, the restrooms are super clean also.
Great spot to put camper in the Driftless Area. Trout stream runs through the campground offering opportunities to fish and creek stomp. Well-maintained bathrooms (showers coin operated). Mini golf was free and passed some time (course is a little rough/uneven). We did not eat at restaurant, only because we packed enough food, but was often busy with patrons. Would recommend and will come back.
The Bad:
Went on a Sunday morning and arrived just before 10. We (group of 5) sat there for at least 10 to 15 minutes before someone came to wait on us. The wait staff barely checked on us and the kid in the kitchen clearly didn't know how to make multiple orders at the same time. They weren't short handed from what I could tell, it just appeared that the staff was just hanging out. When we finally got our breakfast, everyone had burned hash browns. And by burned, I'm not talking about a little too brown. They were charcoal black. Oh, and the food was cold for 4 out of 5 people in the party.
I ordered these little bread nugget things and they were also burnt and greasy.
Based on the service and the food, it's getting two stars. I'm probably being generous with that.
The Good:
The place is very cool, had a good vibe and the drinks were good. I think the place has a ton of potential. I might give it one more chance and simply go in for drinks and sit at the bar.
We finally paid out at about 12: 00 noon.
TL: DR Bottom line? Slightly over two hours to get burned breakfast and terrible food. Pancakes and sausage patties don't take that long. But it is a cool place.
We dovetailed with a family reunion and stayed 5 nights. Someone was there when we arrived to check us in. Our campsite was very nice and level. It's very well kept, both the campground and shower facilities. (Like some other campgrounds the shower needed. 25¢ for 4 minutes, so be prepared if you plan on using it.). We went to the bar/restaurant, which was hopping! The trout stream was popular, and neighboring camper caught a nice sized fish.
Perfect Campground! We stayed at Cabin #27, newly renovated and had everything we needed! Bud loved swimming and walking along the trout stream. If you are looking for a weekend getaway, this is a perfect spot!
Beautiful campground with lots to do. Pet friendly & clean bathrooms. The food & drinks at the barn are great & the fish special on Friday is phenomenal!
Super fun stop, great food, owners and staff that make sure you are having a good time. Nice campground
Terrible booked online got there and there was no one to help and they are not up front about their pricing also says restaurant was open and it was not unless they close at 4 in the afternoon will not come back here
