Pool was closed for "maintenance". We were not notified. Had to swim at a neighboring hotel. Breakfast was terrible. A bowl of granola bars. Cleanliness not the best and definitely needs an upgrade. I do not recommend.

Bad spot for this hotel. Our window overlooked the train tracks. They came all night blaring their horns. The room had several cosmetic discrepancies (I'm totally nitpicking. Force of habit. I have been in the construction industry for over a decade now. Attention to detail is a must)

The staff is really what takes this place over the top. I was here twice for a short stay and extended.both times they went out of their way to take care of not only myself but my family as well.

AC didn't cool the room, the hot water never got hot and we had no soap in the bathroom. The man at the front desk was very helpful but we won't be staying at this location again.

We just checked in here for our wedding night and Tommy was amazing! We had a bit of a hiccup in the reservation and he was wonderful at helping us figure it out! He had a positive attitude and worked so quickly! The room was clean and the hotel was lovely. Highly recommend.

Very rude personnel. They don’t know how to talk to the guests. Awful scheduling. Absolutely discourage any lady/gentleman who respect themselves from choosing this place

Let me start off by saying the staff are incredibly friendly and polite and go the extra mile to help you despite being extremely short-staffed. (I waited 40 minutes behind 6 folks to get extra towels). That is where my positive review ends.

Cons:
-sticky bathroom floors
-empty shampoo containers
-cold showers
-dirty floors and carpets in and and out of the rooms
-stairs near southwest elevator have caked and dried emesis from someone that has baked into the carpets for some time
-Various dirt, crumbs and debris up and down the hallway on different floors
-Elevators are dirty, various fluids have dried on the elevator walls (looks like someone sneezed in the elevator for days)
-Surfaces in the room have various fingerprints and stains

Pros:
-Very friendly front desk Staff, very apologetic about things outside their control (I actually felt bad for them)

I am a long time Marriott member and have stayed in Marriott hotels for years. We arrived late and I looked for food in the shopette and had asked to see if they have milk available. No milk, no frozen foods, but was able to find some Mac and cheese. I understand we are in a pandemic but we are not in a famine. I also heard mentioned that the hotel was sold out when some guests were turned away. The hotel is clearly making money but Marriott is not keeping it's promise for clean rooms and hotels. This place is a cesspool. I cannot stress how disappointed I am in the state of this hotel as I had stayed here years ago and it was not this bad. Bring your own Clorox wipes and black lights if you are planning on staying here.

Down town Des Moines is very beautiful and seems peaceful. The river right across from the hotel made our stay even cooler we had some problems with the room that we reserved but that was out of anyone's control and they eventually comped our stay so when im back here again this will definitely be our place of choice.

This hotel has been my favorite location in Des Moines over the past several years. The location downtown is ideal for food and walking about. The only note I have this year is that there seem to be people walking around that should not be hanging out. They are staying there and they aren't downtown for other activities. They just wonder about. They asked us to get them into the hotel because they forgot their key when we told them to walk around to the front they dismissed that as an option. It was wierd. We will come back next year but keep that encounter in mind and if we ever feel unsafe, we will find another place. But for now, I loved the location and property.

The AC unit was in the ceiling and dripped all night onto the kirchen floor where are suitcases were so everything got wet, and there was so much water on the floor that we thought our kids turned the sink on till it flooded the floor. We are Marriott gold elite members & was NOT expecting something like this Marriott. Upgrades needed. The pull out couch bed was also nasty as I've ever seen, something out of a motel. Stained all over and very warn out.

After we called to the hotel to be sure they had availability, we made a reservation. Once we arrived to the hotel, they said there was not room available anymore! So, they gave our reserved room to somebody else! Rude, inconsiderate, and unfriendly. Worst experience ever with a hotel.

This Residence Inn was a bit shabbier than others I've been to. I went during Covid quarantine so they had most of the ammenities closed, which was not stated on their website or on hotels.com. I was especially disappointed by their breakfast. Rather than a buffet it was a packaged blueberry muffin.
Worst of all, neither the night nor day staff wore masks.

Rooms were set up beautifully, but then the issues. The price point for these rooms leave no excuse for the issues here. I didn't have hot water in my shower (my schedule is too crazy to have it fixed on their schedule - also summer so cold showers are fine), hot tub was cold (fixed during my stay). Outside of this the place is clean, cozy and some of the staff is quite friendly and accommodating. If you can get a decent price it is absolutely worth it. The average of $150 is absolutely not worth it unless you are in need of the location.

Bad experience with the rude staff from reception. Practically she said to sleep in the floor because she doesn’t have any rooms available.

Stayed there this past weekend and I was beyond impressed with the staff. There was a guy at the front desk getting bombarded - he was calm and collected and made sure his customer service was on point. This was after Hampton Inn (next door) overbooked our entire baseball team. Residence Inn stepped up to the challenge, and seamlessly made sure we all had rooms - and even comped our parking along with a discounted rate for our "troubles". Our same team will be back in two weeks and we have no switched reservations to Residence Inn. Well done to the entire staff for delivering in a pinch, and making a potentially bad situation - into a memorable weekend for all of us! Oh, we won the championship too:) Thanks guys, job well done!

I stay at hotels off an they have the best customer service I highly recommend this place! Tommy and the manager do a great job, we’re very helpful, made sure we were all taken care of the multiple times we have stayed there and will continue staying. We even did my 6 year olds birthday here he was so happy How everyone kept reminding him it was his day including when it’s hard celebrating during the middle of a pandemic.

I didn’t actually stay there but felt the need to write a review do to my experience please read I hope no one else will have to experience this. I was charged 170.00 and I did not stay there the assistant managers were very kind and helpful but after 4 days of calling my bank and the hotel I was referred to speak to manager (Lance) so I did all I asked from him is to get a receipt showing showing the refunded amount with his signature the transaction was already done so this is probably one of the easiest things to do but instead I received hostility, rudness, and basically the worst customer service I’ve ever received especially from someone of that high level someone who should be setting an example he constantly cut me off and told me how I don’t listen and that he needed to speak to an assistant manager before he could help me. Now again let me remind you the transaction is already DONE every associate I spoke with before has confirmed it! All I needed was it on paper. I’ve never heard of a manager having to speak with someone under him to send a customer receipt.and to be rude? I never write bad reports I’m probably the sweetest person you’ll ever me so I’m not used to people like that just for that exact reason I will not stay there that’s just not how you handle customers especially ones that had almost 200 dollars taking out of their account.just awful customer service from a manager.everyone else was great still waiting on my money but had to let my experience be known

Usually don't leave reviews, but had an awful experience here when the heating and A/C unit in my room malfunctioned (apparently also an issue in other rooms). When set to 72 it heated the room to 79 and changing to cool only blew more hot air. This was apparently a known issue, but one they failed to mention when I checked in at 8pm; I can't really sleep in a room that's almost 80. When I asked the front desk at 1 am, after trying to fall asleep, what my options where, I got no apology, no mention of compensation for not being able to sleep in my room, but was told to just turn off the unit and someone would fix it tomorrow (after I am checking out). I would have happily switched my reservation to a different Marriott property in town if they had been forthcoming on this issue.
