I lived at S. R. Senior Lofts for 2 months and hated every minute. Am originally a Southside person but moved to the older side of West Des Moines. There was a targeted shooting at The Flats a lower income apartment complex just a stones throw from SR Senior Lofts. And a homeless encampment above the parking lot. I grew up in kinder times 4 blocks from Abraham Lincoln HS and was not going to live in The Hood! That place is poorly managed, needs a lot of work and residents are a bunch of grumpy old people. I moved for many reasons but safety is first and foremost to me!

The manager Alana is a 5 star manager she's very professional and by the book. She's helped me in many areas. She take the time to sit with you and really listens to your concerns, paying attention to your needs. Definitely an asset to Sothridge Senior Lofts. This community was in need of a Manager like Alana.
The place is well kept clean and beautiful.
You become part of a family when you become a resident here. Your not just a apartment number when you lease from Sothridge everyone knows you by name & they really care.
Don't worry about being alone on a holiday when you live here you'll never be alone again. They have a dinner the community gets involved and gather together.
There may be a bad review from a unhappy renter just keep in mind there not really going to put down the real reason for their bad review & that thiers always a bad apple anywhere you go, however there's more positive feedback then negative.
If you decide to come here, you won't regret it Just ask for Alana & maybe will see you here.
Thanks sylvia

My husband and I are the new cleaners here and absolutely love the management. He is bringing so much life back into these apartments if you request anything he’s right on it. I’ve worked with apartment management before and he goes way above for the residence. The building is a very nice community and we love cleaning there.

I've lived here three years and seen several managers nine compare to our newest property manager. He jumps in and is hands on and treats everyone with respect and care. He assisted me with some accounting issues and was right the first time. A good place to call home.

While in Des Moines we toured several senior apartments for mom and the manager and staff here were absolutely wonderful. He was finishing up with a resident and the laughter and smiles coming out of the office assisted us with some decision making. A beautiful community with spacious units and amenities. Location is close to shopping and grocery stores.

I went to see the soutridge lofts. Very nice place. I am putting in my application. Manger been there only 30 days and it seems that he has been there a few years. Like that there is a community room and fit area and also a study. They also have spaces apartments for me and my dog.

We had an incident at the building today and have a new manager Rike. He made sure everyone was safe and being in a wheelchair he kept his eye on me at all times. Hope others appreciate him as much as I.

I've lived here 3 years and it's a beautiful community with spacious apartment living. The new manager Riker approaches senior living head on with solutions. The building has 1 and 2 bedroom units and is pet friendly.

Be nice to out new manager. He's the best one we've had. He knows how to get things done, and actually gets things done fast.

Now that we have a manager, Rike has stuffed up and is doing an exceptional job he is a positive person in an otherwise sometimes in a very negative environment. I got up this morning to come out at 8: 00 and he was already here vacuuming up the mess that the movers left yesterday after they moved someone out of an apartment. He was on the spot doing what needed to be done during the fire we had, I made sure everyone was safe and secure. I like him as a manager and I hope he stays a long long time. Post post

I have lived here and have seen several managers come and go. Reike is the best we have had. He is very pleasant and anxious to help you solve your problems. He has done more in the short time he has been here than the other managers combined.

Melissa in the office has been SOOO helpful through this moving process with my grandma. Very informative and made the process so stress free!

The inside & outside of the apartments have been well taken care of!

Bad, bad, bad. Miller Valentine and their properties deserves negative stars. They do not care about their residents. Exterior is very deceiving! The construction was below par with people who was moved in to unpainted units, poor plumbing, rodent issues and construction on going for 4 to 6 months. Two leases were signed in the beginning one for a move in of January 10th then second lease for the end of January.government tax credit/possible penalties? Sidewalks not clear for seniors who had to take their own trash out to dumpster causing falls during the winter months. Front door was left unlocked for months where homeless people stayed inside. Various times, residents had to threaten to call the city for various code violations before MV would repair the situations. Property Manager stated residents would have to pay a $100 to reserve the community room and then receive back if there are no issues. Never heard of this before in a senior residence! Grass has never been mowed and it is at 12 to 24 inches in height. Residents are not told to pick-up after their animals. Trash in outside trash containers are not routinely removed and it smells (near the front door & picnic areas). Parking lot has never been cleaned, locked cars have been broken into by individuals walking through the parking area. Front door is locked but in an emergency, family members cannot easily get to their person because the door system is only partially working. Therefore, residents have to depend on each other to assist if/when there is an emergency. Property manager does not return phone messages & tells residents NOT to call her more than once for she will not reply. She is rude, yells, watches residents on the camera (but can't help if there is a break-in or drugs in the building), disrespectful and calls residents "old people. " She has zero morals and no integrity. Very unprofessional, lacks knowledge in her duties. She lies, a bully and talks about how she gets "fast" money by filing untruthful lawsuits. Residents had to call the police several times and file reports against the manager for emotional, belittling, power threats, mental pain, anguish, intimidating and so much more. She stomps off and pouts. Residents internet/cable no longer works so she takes away services that residents paid for in retaliation!
Businesses can easily setup new entities/partnerships to protect their other assets not named in the current lawsuit. As of 9/29/18, this property is MVAH Partners. The federal lawsuit filed against Miller Valentine in 13 states (since the information is online).
