Spook Cave & Campground reviews
17My dad was very excited to take me here to see the cave as he spent so much time here as a kid and it brought back so many memories. However we had a horrible experience. The people at the front desk didn’t have the most positive attitude, and we went on the tour our tour guide was driving so fast the tour didn’t take very long. She kept ramming into stuff which I know couldn’t be helped, but she rammed so hard into the rock it smashed my dad into the wall and off his seat, scratching and cutting him in various places. This would a horrible experience and I was really sad to see this happen. Please tell your employees to take their time and if their in a rush to not work there. You pay money for this tour so it would be nice if it could have a nice experience
Spook Cave is such a great place! We stopped there to see Beulah Falls and we took a boat tour through the cave! Our tour guide, Shawn, was great and had some cool information about the cave. It was such a neat spot, I would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area!
Tour was good if a bit overpriced vs comparable.
Campground had a distinct atmosphere to it. Don't know that I would elect to stay there.
Please do not say those things. That is absolutely not true. We had no negative behaviors in your store. I even complimented the cashier that morning. But you are spreading falsehoods about us and that’s not cool. Please remember our lawsuit that we won. Some advice…stay professional when you own a business. And I’d take down your post about our behavior in your store…falsehoods are not legal as I would think you’ve learned.
Huge campground, very very friendly staff, very well maintained. Really enjoyed the cave tour. The sites were nicely spread out, the only recommendation I have for the grounds is to make the gravel area wider at the sites. It is very narrow. But truly not that big of a deal!
If I could give this place 0 stars I would! Worst customer service ever! I stayed there with family last summer. I stayed in a cabin while others tent camped. I have a special needs child and anytime we were in the store the staff would whisper inappropriately and watch us awkwardly. It made me very uncomfortable. Furthermore, after checking out and leaving the park, I get home and find out they charged my card an extra $250 with no explanation. After calling, the manager Katie told me I was charged because there was a dog in the cabin. I explained there was never a dog and that my son is allergic to dogs. I would never jeopardize his health. I offered to provide his medical paperwork. She was very rude and unreasonable, not willing to listen to anything. Later i communicated with the owners through email who also were not willing to offer any resolution. I contacted my credit card company and let them know I was falsely charged for a pet, and I was offered no explanation, communication, or receipt for this charge from the business. I ended up taking them to small claims court, which I won. I was able to get my $250 back, as both the credit card company and judge agreed in my favor, and the judge also also ordered them to pay half of the court costs, which to no surprise was never received. I would never stay at this crooked place again and I would not recommend anybody else to go there either, especially if you have have a special needs child as they are not understanding of behavoir that is out of the ordinary of a typical person.
Absolutely loved our visit to Spook Cave! We thoroughly enjoyed the boat tour. Cole was the best tour guide! Super informative, funny, and friendly…a job well done! And the campground is really nice…great playground, clean bathrooms, beautiful grounds. Plus all the staff we met were so welcoming too. We’ll be back!
I am absolutely disgusted with Spook Cave and Campground. My family stayed here, and one night we were celebrating and discussing our ethnic and cultural backgrounds. My family is hispanic and indigenous. I am most certain that various people heard us speak about this, including campground staff who were seemingly watching us throughout our stay. After that night, we were treated abhorrently by staff and management whilst in the store. We were characterized as loud, abrasive, and terrible. These are all stereotypes that indigenous and hispanic people continuously face. We were then charged a pet fee, when there was no pet in the cabin! I am disgusted by this place- to think that they are seemingly actively discriminating against people is HORRIBLE.
The tickets to ride the boat through the cave were too expensive. The grounds are beautiful, though, and we thought that we would like to go camping there sometime.
Very cute campground and was quite busy! Cave tour is super cool, expect to bend while sitting on boat to go through the caves. Not good for clostrophobic individuals.
Such a fun place to bring family or friends. The cave was fun and a great learning opportunity. They have a nice store with all kinds of things my kiddos wanted to buy. Ice cream was delicious and affordable. We would recommend.
State park was closed. We just happened on an ad for Spooky Cave Campground. Very pretty park with lots of trees and a creek. The cave trip in a boat was interesting! A great place for families!
Fun cave tour. Great for me and my kids, ages 8 and 7, as a little get away. Had photo areas set up for you to take pictures. Nice waterfall in camp ground.
Great family campground in NE Iowa. The grounds are very nice and sites are decent sized. They have a playground for kids and a lovely waterfall near the entrance to the campground for a family photo op if your interested. This year Spook Cave hosted a Scavenger Hunt, Ninja Warrior style competition and Poker Walk on Saturday. Of course you can still tour the cave by boat ($) and enjoy some ice cream from the camp store while you wait. Love the drive up and the views of NE Iowa.
Very fun and enjoyable boat tour. Must be limber. Very interesting and fun. PS It is the Wintergreen lifesavers that will spark when you bite them in complete darkness.
Visited when my children were small and loved it. Started a new Family Tradition this year. Children are grown and grandchildren are growing up too fast! 2022 First Annual Family Camping Reunion! It was perfect except it was too short. Next year at least four days. Campsites are large, Cabins of all types for those that don't camp in campers. And the beach! Made lifetime memories.
Feels kinda Commercial like. But it's got lot to offer. Haven't done the tour yet. Mainly came for a place to camp.
Rockhounds should live this area. Not this Venue persay but a long the Mississippi.
