Surety Hotel, Des Moines IA

I came here for a conference and chose this hotel based on logistics. I have to say the staff from the front door to the coffee shop, to the restaurant were not only accommodating, but personable, friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I was snowed in and my departure flight cancelled so they booked me another room without any issues, Brooklyn was even so kind to book me a car back to the airport

Absolutely horrible stay staff were rude and cockroaches were left dead on the floor not worth the money and the bed was very uncomfortable aswell as the fridge being full of empty food packages and overall it stunk will never be stopping here again very disappointed

What an awesome hotel! Felt like we had walked into one of the beautiful old hotels in London or New York. The lobby is both elegant and welcoming. We loved having cocktails by the fireplace next to the Christmas tree. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. I travel to Des Moines several times a year - can’t imagine staying anywhere else!

Beautiful hotel. Loved the comfortable and attractive furniture in the lobby. The high ceilings and large windows made our room feel larger. The fitness center had plenty of equipment. Perfect location for everything downtown and a short walk to East Village. Only place I’d stay if I visited Iowa again.

I stayed at the Surety for a photography conference also held at the hotel and couldn't be happier with my experience. Upon check in the staff was friendly and approachable. After chatting a bit they upgraded my room because "they liked my energy", what a sweet surprise! The unique and aesthetically pleasing interiors were a breath of fresh air and the room felt so luxurious. Not only that but it was very clean and the bed was super comfy. I also worked with the event staff at the Surety for the conference and they were accommodating, fast and friendly as well. Can't wait to come back!

Got a real tour of the hotel. In our first room the heater was so loud you couldn't hear anything over the mayhem. The front desk staff was attentive and maintenance prompt to respond and found we needed to move rooms. Second night suddenly the room heater started having the same issue then we discovered we had no water (video attached). We then moved to a third room during our two night stay. It would have been a very pleasant stay without the maintenance issues. All the staff was very helpful throughout. We were fairly compensated for the inconvenience and would actually suggest the hotel to friends. With the warning that the 12th floor must be haunted. In the end the third floor was very comfortable.

If you're looking for a convenient and lovely spot in downtown Des Moines, this is a great place to stay. Parking is access in a small lot across the street or a parking garage around the corner. The staff were so lovely and helpful, and made the experience that much better. Rooms/bathrooms are spacious and comfortable. If you happen to be staying over the weekend, the hotel within a very short walking distance to the Saturday farmer's market and a Hyvee is also close if you need to purchase water/snacks, etc. I would stay at this hotel again.

Absolutely THE BEST hotel in Des Moines! Hands down! Amazing staff especially if Brooklyn checks you in and she’s the first person you see! She will make the start of your stay absolutely EXCEPTIONAL. Also, go see Andrea at the bar for the best drinks! Love this place!

If you are looking for a great place to stay in Des Moines, this is it.

The hotel is located within walking distance of all kinds of things to do. Great local shops, bars, and restaurants are all within a mile or so. The Downtown Farmers Market is two blocks away on Saturday mornings May through October (it's bigger and better than any farmers market I've seen).

The hotel itself is beautiful. The woodwork throughout is gorgeous. The rooms are very nice. Clean and comfortable. The lobby is inviting. The coffee bar serves amazing coffee with tasty syrups and flavorings made in-house. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

My room was the closest one to the elevators on the 9th floor, which, upon initial entry had me concerned I would hear people coming and going all night. That wasn't the case at all - I didn't hear anything from inside my room.

Mulberry Street Tavern has great food, drinks, and staff as well (the fresh donuts are an amazing dessert with a nightcap).

I parked in the garage. Easy in and out, and I felt my car was protected.

It is very unlikely that I will stay anywhere else when visiting Des Moines in the future.

We stayed in a corner suite for my wedding and I had my bridal party get ready in it and then stayed there with my husband on our wedding night. It was super nice and high quality. They were very accommodating when we needed more towels and pillows.
The only thing I didn’t like was that the parking garage was not accessible through the hotel and you had to walk around the corner. Not a big deal unless you have a ton of stuff.
You pay for the luxury that’s for sure.

The hotel is very nicely done. Very trendy. They blend the old architecture of the bank with modern flair seamlessly. The rooms were clean and spacious. There were a couple of areas where I feel they could tweak just a bit, however first, there is no coffee machine in the room- though they do offer coffee downstairs in the lobby during a certain window, it’s not the best and it’s only one kind. It’s not hard to have a simple pot in the room and guests may enjoy decaf, or a coffee outside of the small morning window. There is also no robe provided in the room despite there being signage that you can “take home the robe” for $90. Either put the robe in the room or get rid of the sign. It’s just confusing and people don’t want to worry you forgot the robe and are going to charge them. Lastly, the water pressure was awful and there was a broken tile in the bathroom- not deal breakers but something of note.

So happy I booked my stay in Des Moines at the Surety. This is a fantastic hotel with a great staff, an excellent restaurant, superb location, and very comfortable rooms. Highly recommend. I will definitely stay there again.

Highly recommend a stay at the Surety! We stayed for our daughter's wedding and the downtown location was perfect to The Tea Room venue, the downtown bars, and the farmer's market! The service was excellent, breakfast and coffee great, rooms were beautiful, and the whole vibe of the hotel is relaxing and so cool! We will absolutely be back!
