Tangled Tails, Altoona IA

We recently boarded our 11-year old shihtzu for 7 days. It was her first time being boarded and our first time boarding any pet.

When we began making plans to board her, we sent an email on 2/7 to the email addressed listed on their website to understand the process and packages. We didnt get a response so we sent a follow-up email on 2/22 and have yet to get a response. We ended up just calling to get our questions answered. (Please note that the email address was copied and pasted separately into an Outlook email. The inquiry was not submitted through a form on their website.) I would have liked the email communication to properly weigh out our options before making the reservation.

When we picked her up, her fluffy paws were visibly stained/dirty, were sticky, and also had a strong smell of urine. Our first thought is that she was not given the potty breaks we were told were included in the daily fee. Our second thought was that any accidents from our shihtzu or other boarded dogs were left uncleaned. We also added in the bronze daycare package. We are now questioning if she even got her playtime that we added on. The only feedback we got about her at the time of pick-up was that she did great.

Giving a 3 star rating because their grooming services (specifically from Courtney) has been a great experience every time since we began supporting them 5-6 years ago. This was what led us to choose Tangled Tails for our first boarding. However, the boarding experience has left us with questions and hesitations on cleanliness of the facility and service.

They were great with my boy. I love that you can walk-in. Would definitely recommend Tangled Tails. I'll be going back for sure.

We have a really difficult dog who hates having his nails done, to the point where we can barely get anybody to do him, brought him here, and they had him done in less than five minutes! Will definitely be coming back here for years to come!

Awesome groomer in Altoona, Iowa. First groomer I've had that listened to what I wanted and didn't say "I'll have to shave her. " I have a Malshi and her hair is so the thickest I have ever seen. Lola is ready for the holidays.

The did a wonderful job on our handsome boy! He's an English lab and the hair.shedding so badly. They got him all fixed up at his spa day.

We brought our pup in earlier today to get groomed. We chose the silver package. This was our first time going to the groomer. We got our pup a few weeks ago and this is our first time owning a dog so I’m not too familiar with all that “grooming” comes with. Per our dogs vet request, I had requested his ears be shaved around his ears and the hair removed from his ear lobes. The groomer said that wasn’t an issue but the charge would be extra. That was fine with me. After getting our pup in the car and playing with him I realized that nothing we discussed was done. His hair wasn’t shaved around the ears. He’s face wasn’t framed. & he still had so many eye boogies. Tangled tails came recommend from my aunt so I wanted to give this place a shot. I was/am extremely disappointed in this service and probably won’t be back. All that seemed to be done was a nail trim and a bath. I’m extremely upset with the services that were done today.

Horrible experience boarding my dogs here. When I went to drop the dogs off, the lady at the front desk didn't say anything to me, she just checked me in and took the dogs. Very unfriendly environment. After we picked the dogs up, they smelled awful and our puppy who was just boarded was covered in pee and smelled even worse. She is kennel trained so that tells me that she was not let out every so often like they had said. Never again.

Prior I had used the groomer at the vet and was very let down. You would send a photo and explain what you wanted done. It was always a gamble what she would look like. If you questioned anything the vets groomer got defensive. I decided to try out Tangled Tails after reading all the great reviews. The reviews don’t lie one bit as it was a excellent experience. Just getting the chance to meet with the groomer and go over a detailed plan for her groom was perfect. The haircut was perfect she couldn’t have been more adorable?

I think they do a good job with my standard size (big) goldendoodle and my golden retriever. I also appreciate the groomer getting each dog done in a timely fashion.

We take our dogs here for grooming and boarding! Pups are well-cared for and loved on during their appointments and stays.

Did a great job on both our Sheepadoodle puppy & our Shih Tuz. Very happy with them plus they get you in without waiting weeks! Will be going back!

I have taken my Great Pyrenees (Charlie) there are multiple times each time he comes out very happy and looks amazing they do a great job I highly recommend them

I love this place and Willie gets so excited when we tell him where we're going. The staff takes good care of him and are so helpful!
