The Great Plains Sauce & Dough Co. reviews
15Good Pizza, limited beer menu and it’s only counter service so it keeps the cost of food low. Good place to go for a quick bite to eat.
I was seriously surprised by this place. I like to consider myself a pizza enthusiast if not even a pizza aficionado, but I've never run across this style of pizza before. The crust was a thick, dense, whole wheat bread topped with standard red sauce and mozzarella. But we were told by the excellent staff that the crust was meant to be dipped in honey! Honey bears were on each table and we tepidly tasted them. AMAZING!
Clean restaurant, unbelievably helpful staff. Loved it.
Pizza was just so / so. Given the rating I expected more. Tasted like the crust was pre-purchased.
Super cute place, smelled great when we walked in, I think we should have gotten just a regular thin crust pizza. We got the Denver Crust, when I tell you this thing is heavy, I'm not exaggerating when I say that the large cheese pizza we got weighed every bit of 5lbs. It was good, loved the cheese, just a lot of crust.
I really enjoy the pizza here, however I do wish they had a single slice thin crust option available everyday - they call it "Sam's" and it is only available as a single slice purchase on Mondays.
Their deep dish pizza style requires that you eat only one or two pieces before you are full. Bring an appetite.
I love the atmosphere and the food, but the service was definitely lacking. This was our first time here, and as a customer service worker myself, I was disappointed when we got to the counter. The girl didn't even greet us or try to help us out. In fact, the only nice words we got were thank you and a smile, and I think it was by the owner or manager. We plan on bringing our kids next time, and hopefully, it will be different, and I can change my rating.
Was ready to put a large order in but no one wants to answer the phone. I’d pass on this place and go somewhere that actually wants your business!
Been visiting Great Plains since I was a freshman at ISU in 1988. It’s the best pizza I ever had. Get the thick crust wheat. Do not order extra cheese. Love the atmosphere and great service
This was my first visit. You have to place your order at the counter and return to the counter to pick your pizza up. It has a fun atmosphere. The people working there were friendly and helpful. The pizza is a cut above all of the common national chains. We ordered thick crust. I liked the crust. There was plenty of cheese. While I don't live in Ames, I would definitely eat here again and would recommend this place to my friends and family.
It's my kind of pizza. I don't like the crust paper thin, I want it to be thick and flavorful. It brings the flavor of the other ingredients out, so it's well balanced. This place is definitely a favorite for me.
Good pizza. Didn't realize it's basically self serve to order them they clean up the table. Staff was nice. Maybe a sign that says seat your self and or order here.may help
Always have loved GPS&D! It is a favorite place to take family and friends whenever they are in town.
Great pizzas. Seldom see so many crust/dough options. I really liked the wheat dough crust under my Italian sausage pie.
Great Plains is legendary! I love their Denver crust, regardless of the toppings I choose to get.
An ice cold pitcher of beer and it's a wonderful meal!
