The Purple Door reviews
10We were traveling back from Santa Fe and stumbled across the Purple Door. What an incredible dinner! Our entrees were to die for. Great atmosphere, outstanding desserts, only regret, I live in Erie, Pa, a bit of a drive for dinner. Everyone in our group frequently refers to this restaurant and the fun time we had.
Excellent food and atmosphere! If you are anywhere near Harlan, IA it is worth it to eat here!
Higher end restaurant for the town, they do have a kids menu so we decided to go for lunch. The bread plate was okay but the kids did not like the pesto, and the edges were a little dark/charred for my taste but still decent. The salmon tasted excellent but the texture was a little chewy/hard edges. Veggies and potato sides were awesome. The kids had chicken tenders and felt some pieces were a little too grisly, but they loved the fries. Was a good experience, definitely recommend a cocktail and the lemon water is very refreshing.
The food was delicious. We had the beef medallions and the fish and chips. Portions were a perfect size, price was good and again the food was great. The only downside was our waitress was a bit underwhelming. Truly a hidden gem, would recommend to anyone in the area to go to The Purple Door.
The food was delicious and the service was great…they even made small changes to a meal for my sons’ food allergies. Thanks for a great dinner!
Harlan, Iowa may be a small town, but the Purple Door is big city dining for sure. The cuisine and atmosphere are excellent and well worth the trip from Omaha or Council Bluffs.
Very nice owner and service. Very knowledgeable and informative. Food was quick and absolutely delicious, maybe the best steak I’ve had ever.
We have not been to this restaurant before but our experience was wonderful. The music was perfectly chosen and at the right volume so that you could enjoy the music but not be overwhelmed by it. We ordered the bone-in pork chop with potatoes and zucchini, fried green tomatoes, salad with the house raspberry vinaigrette dressing. For dessert we ordered the New York cheesecake. We topped it off with the house Merlot. We were not disappointed with anything. It was a very enjoyable evening, and we both plan to return again! Thank you so much! It made our first date a big success!
Cool atmosphere and impressive menu on paper that doesnt translate to the plate. The food is oddly and overly seasoned with onion; grits, spaghetti, meatballs.sauces are opposingly light. 4th try and they are batting 0.250. A lot of potential and a much needed date night niche in the neighborhood, but falls short on flavor. Hopefully they can get it dialed in.
Unbelievable 5 star working staff! Make you feel super welcome and treat you like long time friends! Any questions about the menu they knew the whole thing. I personally had the 16oz Ribeye and it is one of the best if not the best steak I have had along with amazing for mashed potatoes. A MUST try if you are a steak lover. The handmade drinks and desserts are amazing definitely do not skip! Definitely give the Purple Door a visit and you will not be disappointed from the staff, cleanliness, environment, or the food!
