Three Bridges County Park reviews
13Took us like 10 min.only saw 2 bridges. Not a place to go for a hike.maybe if ya like fishing? Not too many spots to park maybe 5 cars total above and below
The swinging bridge is still not fixed and the trails are blocked by overgrowth and fallen trees. The stairs leading up to the swinging bridge badly need to be replaced.
I do not recommend this park for hiking. The trails are badly maintained and the suspension bridge has been under a tree since the derecho. There is one picnic table and no restrooms at the park. The location is incorrect on maps. The map takes you to private property on the north side of the river, however Three Bridges is south of the Iowa River.
maps incorrectly shows the park being on the north side of the river, when it is actually on the south side (north is private property).
But it is an interesting park with a historic bridge, neat limestone bluffs, and some hiking trails and boat ramp. Unfortunately the suspension bridge was taken out by a tree fall (probably during the derecho)
Trashed by others who have no respect for Iowa and it’s waterways. The bridge is unfortunately covered with graffiti. The bank of the river by the boat launch is always littered with beer cans an empty catfish bait concoctions, worm containers and rubber gloves strewn about along with wads of fishing line. The suspension bridge is destroyed by the derecho storm of 2020. This was a beautiful place till lack of respect for its natural beauty has been completely disregarded. Sad to see this in our state. Iowa is better than this
I was at three bridges park today and found to path to go across the suspension bridge but couldn't due to trees on the bridge.
Per earlier comments, Google was placing the park on the wrong (north) side of the river, but I submitted an update so that it now seems to direct people to the correct (south) side of the river, while still showing the green park area on the wrong (north) side. The park itself is neat- a strip of woods over a low limestone cliff leading down to the river, where there's a functional pedestrian (probably formerly drivable) bridge (to the private property north side marked as park on maps as I type this). As others have mentioned, the suspension bridge is under (but I think not broken by) a fallen tree. The paths are badly maintained and also overgrown. Still a neat patch of woods. Found some fossils in the flaked off limestone river rocks along the bank- brachiopods and the like. The park is mostly not river front, but there is an unofficial trail (Possibly private property? Not marked, but also no less overgrown than the official park trails) continuing along the river to the east that people fish from. (I'm basing what I guess is legitimate and not on the map on the county website; it's not obvious which trails are "real" in person.) There are kind of two parking areas, one (with a picnic table) by the big bridge by the river straight to the dead end of the road, and one down a little drive off to the east, behind the big park sign.
Followed gps to 3bridges Rd was gated closed but link said was open called phone# to talk to someone for different directions and the phone number given failed police department? Never found how to get there?
What a wonderful little park to explore. Rough trails, rock walls, lazy river, grassy low lands, and a bridge to enjoy. Bring a sack to carry out any trash you might come across or perhaps some morel mushrooms. We hike here quite often.
This has always been a favorite park of mine but it needs some serious cleanup and people need to respect it more. Less beer bottles and random pairs of underwear (seriously? !) and more care for the earth we live on.
Swinging bridge is broke due to tree laying on it. Hopefully it will get fixed in the spring.
Beautiful park. Just make sure you bring repellent. We got run out of there because of the over sized over populated mosquitos.
Went there about a year ago during the summer and it was a beautiful place to hike, I so loved the swinging bridge.
