Best E. R. I've been to and actually helps with tooth problems as well as will set you up with any resources you need. Very polite staff! They actually listened to me and didn't treat me like a number despite how busy they were. They were very patient with me despite my Autism, ADHD and Anxiety all messing up at the same time due to the long drive there and all the pain I was in when I arrived. They explained things very well to where I could understand and didn't treat me like a child or blame my anxiety like other hospitals have tried to and have done in the past. Volunteers went above and beyond as did the nurses and doctors who treated me. THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting the "Care" back in Healthcare when it comes to emergency departments! If I ever need to go to this E. R.again (which hopefully I won't lol) then I definitely feel like it's a safe place for me. Thank you again.

Don't take all the reviews seriously
It's an EMERGENCY ROOM
It's not first come first serve,
Waiting 3 hours= you're not having a life threatening emergency
Emergency room= going to die if not treated
Don't come in for sore throats and fevers
Go to your urgent cares if you can't handle waiting 8 hours
People complaining of wait times Don't understand that the beds are actually all being used for people having emergencies while they selfishly complain about their fevers and arm pain to staff unable to do anything to get them in quicker

Thank you to all Medical and non medical staff that take care of us and endure all the shenanigans of selfish people

Disrespectful doctors treat you like a number and shove you into the ER, claiming that everything will be the same whether or not you examine yourself. I've traveled to eight countries, and this was the worst ER I've ever seen, even worse than those in New York and Texas. Behind the curtains, doctors and nurses may be making inappropriate jokes for an emergency room setting.

This ER is a disgrace to the state of Iowa.

If you’re admitted to the ER don’t expect to get help throughout the night! Pushed my nurse button and was hung up on repeatedly and I never received the simple glass of water I wanted.

Great experience. I had some emergent lung issues, and within the hour had a CT scan, followed by ultrasound and admission shortly thereafter. I can't say enough good things about the experience or the staff.

I see why this ER has 1.7 rating. My wife came in with so much back pain, she could barely sit on the chair, she got checked in at 3pm, I am writing this review 18mins past midnight and we are still waiting. Exactly 9hrs after checking in and no signs of even a possible help coming. First time in my life that an ER mean’t nothing like Emmergency room. If this is caused by staffing shortage, it’s beyond imagination. It’s seems like there’s one attending physician for an entire shift. I think the University is better than this and can do better. I felt like I was in a war tone country with waiting for possible rescue. No one leaves their home to ER just for Fun. It’s always a need for urgent care that prompts it. We will see someone die in the ER waiting for service one of these days if nothing is done to reduce such excessive wait times. Deeply disappointed.

Don't come here for flue and cold or stomach flue just stay home take vitamins or go to walk in clinic, ER is for severe injury or serious issues clinics can't help with.

By far one of the worst Emergency Room Experiences I have ever have. The whole department needs to be redone. You wonder why there are so many negative reviews and 1 stars. Its because who ever is running it needs fired. The whole system is flawed. The nurses and doctors are running around with their heads cut off. We were in a room for 18 hours. 18. When we were already a TRANSFER from another hospital. We knew driving the 2 hours to this hospital we would need to be admitted so why keep us in the ER for 18 hours? Don't tell me you didn't have room on the floor cause when we were finally moved to the floor there were 13 open beds out of 28. They did a total of 1 test the entire 18 hours we were there that was clear and unrelated to the compliant that brought us in had the nurses and doctors actually listened to us.arrived at 8pm in a room by 1030, MRI around 2, results to our portal came at 7am but a doctor did not read them to us til after 11AM when our Primary doctor back home got involved. Our son was brought in because he couldn't bare weight on his leg or walk very far. Not a single doctor or nurse felt his leg or asked to see him stand/walk. It took me calling his primary doctor (2 hours away) for her to call and demand actual tests be done. 1 hour after our doctor called the hospital we were moving to a room. And yes Iowa City I would glady talk to someone on the Patient Experience team. In fact I tried calling BEFORE writing a review and I was told nobody was available. SHOCKING! I'll be waiting for a call back but assuming much like the high wait times in the ER it will be a hot minute.

Don't go here ever. If u want to wait over 10 hours to been seen. 24 hours if u need a room.
With all of these comments u think they might want to do a lil better. But what do they care.
I don't even know how any of them sleep at night just sayin. U all went to school to HELP people and if u think this is takin care and helping people it is not.
They could do better they chose not to. This is a them problem that should be fix.
U should never be sending people back out to the waiting room to being with. Work smarter not harder. They just make there jobs more stressful them selfes just saying.
No one should EVER be in the waiting room with a iv in.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ER! This was the worst emergency room experience I've ever had. The nursing staff and attending physician were rude and unprofessional. They asked for a urine sample, and then just left it unattended on the back of our hospital bed. They never collected it. I asked about it three different times, and the nurse who was supposed to collect it responded with, and I quote exactly, "Well, they'll have to wait because I have actual priorities to worry about. " There were two other patients in the corridor with us. Yes, they just had us sitting for several hours in the corridor. One of the patients repeatedly asked for water because she was dehydrated, and was refused by the nurse because she wasnt the attending nurse. She then walked to her desk to talk and joke around with the other staff. She could have at least checked with the attending nurse to see if the patient could get some water.

The attending doctor, Aguilar, behaved as though we were an inconvenience to him. The patient behind me in the corridor had suffered a small stroke, and could also not get anyone to assist. All the while, multiple nurses and other staff were just either standing around laughing and talking or sitting at their desk on their mobile devices.
They also refused to acknowledge my partner as my wife.

We ended up leaving with two other patients. Mercy ER down the road was infinitely more helpful. Never again. This was so awful, and it is apparent that the department isn't taking steps to make corrections because they just copy and paste the same response to these comments.

Im a contracted employee that became a patient in the ED tonight. I was blown away by how kind and professional everyone was. I was in and out within ONE HOUR. When I got to the pharmacy, the pharmacist had my medicine in hand and was looking up discount codes for me. I'm so grateful for the way I was cared for this evening. This is the fifth university hospital I've worked for in the past two years and is by far the best.

An emergency room should absolutely not have a 5 hour wait for diabetics with a 460 blood sugar count and pancreatitis absolute disgrace

Waited 8 hours in the waiting room before just being dragged in circles. Sat in the waiting room and other rooms for four MORE hours. Still no help, solution, or anything remotely related to a solution.

Shame on this hospital. I honestly think everyone including security needs fired and hire new people.

I visited the ER for a gash on my head after a fall. I received excellent care during the entire experience! Everyone who helped me was so helpful and kind. Upon checking in I was greeted by a woman who had a calming demeanor. The nurses and doctor explained everything clearly and took great care of me. I was escorted twice, once to get an x-ray and then a CT scan. Each person who accompanied me was patient and friendly. I could not have received better care. I felt they were thorough in checking to be sure everything was going to be okay before sending me home. Even the staff at checkout were friendly and nice. Thank you, thank you to everyone who helped me!
