Wasabi Ames

We usually love wasabi but last time we went it was awful! I had been craving sushi since i was pregnant and could finally have it. We ordered 4 rolls. We got the spicy maki combo and all the rolls were dried out and looked like they had been sitting out for a while. We ended up eating a few of those rolls and being grossed out by them.

This is one of our absolute favorites in Ames. Their speciality sushi rolls are amazing as are the crispy brussel sprouts. This is our most frequented restaurant here in town and one you don’t want to miss!

Wasabi is the best sushi in Iowa! I LOVE sushi and was struggling to find a good place until now. Love the rolls from Wasabi! The atmosphere and customer service is also great.

We visited the Ames location for the first time for a birthday and it was delicious! The service was prompt and attentive. Great selection of mocktails. Loved that it is quiet and you can easily carry on a conversation with others-even in a large group. Lots of gluten free options if you need those!

I tried sushi for the first time at Wasabi and I am hooked! The menu, service, and atmosphere was great! I will return and reccommend to friends.

Clean and comfortable space, we sat at bar table and the sushi and appetizers were good, and reasonably priced

We ordered twice for take out and ended up waiting 30 minutes longer than the time we were given. The food is okay.

This place always delivers for me. Best sushi spot in Ames by a mile. I travel for work and every time I come to town this is my go to spot. Don’t miss out.

One of the best sushis I tasted. Please try crunchy crab roll, Marilyn monroll, angry dragon, along others. Try fried rice and seaweed salad too.

Wasabi offers a wonderful selection of authentic food! It was my first time trying sushi at a restaurant and I was no less than amazed at the quality and the diverse flavors in the We Love Ames roll! We also grabbed Shrimp Rangoons as an appetizer and they were also wonderful! Prices were reasonable for this style of food, although it is pricier than going to a burger restaurant of course. It was a great value for our meal!

The only downside to this restaurant is the small parking lot. If you’re meeting a friend here, make sure to carpool!

Fresh, great tasting sushi. Love the Teriyaki chicken. Lots of good gluten free options. Very attentive and friendly staff. Highly recommend this place. Been to the one in Ankeny also, they are both great.

I don't eat sushi, so I can't speak to that, but my sesame chicken with broccoli was great. Prices were high though.

Ordered what was labeled as Korean bulgogi, it hardly tasted like it should. (We have lived in both Korea and Japan for many years.) There was no marinade. It was flat, no garlic, sesame seed nor oil, no sugar, and very little if any soy sauce. The beef quantity and quality was good, however. The pork dumplings were not hot and the rice was not hot, tasty nor moist. The dining room was attractive. The restaurant closes at 9: 30, one of the employees began to sweep and mop across from our table around 9: 10. Another asked if we were watching TV. We were not so she turned it off. Our waitress was attentive but surprised our concerns were not brought to the managing attendant. We were excited by the reviews and the extensive menu. Sad, but it was a disappoinment.

Wasabi is my favorite restaurant in Ames. The Dragonberry mojito, dumplings, and chicken teriyaki can’t be beat

The prices are pretty crazy for the type and quality of food. Their sushi rolls aren't any better than other cheaper places in town. Their Kung Pao chicken is sweet instead of spicy. After tip, $50 for a single roll, kung pao, and a soda is pretty wild.

The sushi at Wasabi Ames was fresh and tasty. It was definitely made after we placed our order. It is a little pricey for portion sizes but I’m only reviewing it for the Sushi plates in the picture. It helps to have a reservation because then the wait is leaser than walk-in (especially during rush time). We enjoyed our lunch and will definitely be back whenever we can. Gluten free and dairy free options. The food was delicious and our server was attentive. I liked the layout of the restaurant with plenty of natural lighting through the glass windows
