Whatcha Smokin BBQ & Brew reviews
21Great food, as always. Unsure if eating everything as if it was to go even when doing dine in is permanent, wish we had real plates and silverware. Waitress was great
Try the brisket poutine! It's a huge portion.basically a meal for two even though it's listed under the appetizers. Can't wait to try more items.
We had the Brisket Bacon with campground beans and Iowa Cheese Steak with cheesy potatoes. Also tried the Apple Pie Cider they had on tap. Everything was EXCELLENT! It was DEFINITELY worth the drive from Des Moines!
Absolutely love this place. The food is amazing, the people are very nice and they seat you quickly as well. If it's your first time here I'd suggest the brisket nachos
Busy place even at 2pm in afternoon good food will definitely visit again. Waitress was very polite and friendly and patient as I had never been here before.
This place was highly recommended from a coworker so we decided to take a road trip and check it out. I was not disappointed. The place was easy to find and had lots of seating. The service was great and the food was fresh and delicious. The brisket melted in your mouth. We even got some delicious banana butter pudding to go. I will definitely go back.
The food was really good. The oatmeal cookie was REALL good. The only thing missing was sweet tea. Texas Bar B Que is served with sweet tea or Big Red.
I don't mean to discourage by my food review but, the food is just ok. I can't say anything special about it. It was cold in the restaurant so I was a little uncomfortable, beside that, the service was good.
One of the better BBQ places we have found. The food was great and the service was just as good. Great place for friends and family. Good BBQ sauce for sale also
Hands down the best brisket I have ever had Anywhere! Cut it with a fork and melt in your mouth. Will definitely be back when I am in the area.
Great barbecue restaurant. Staff was great. Go early as we got there at a little after noon and there was a 40 minute wait.
Nice place! Nothing fancy.just darn good food! Wonderful tenderloin and cheesy potatoes. Took home some smokey sausages for tomorrow.we shall see!
The food was good, though not the best BBQ we've had. The servers were friendly. All of the food and drinks were served in disposable containers, which feels like a waste. I'd eat here if I lived close, but wouldn't make a special trip to eat here.
Everything about this restaurant is amazing! Incredible food and staff! The GM is one of a kind and really made this a incredible dining experience!
We drive by a couple times a year and always say we need to stop but is about 40 minutes from where we live so hadn't made it in the 9 years we have lived in the area. We finally made a special trip to celebrate a birthday tonight and it was worth it! There was a 10 minute wait but that wasn't long and the hostess was so friendly it went by fast. They were out of a few things because they make it all fresh each day and once it's gone it's gone, but the hostess told us up front what they were out of so we could decide if we wanted to stay or not. They still had their beef rib special - that was fall off the bone tender - and we ordered sides of corn bread baked beans, and cheesy potatoes that were also really good (photo included). We also ordered the baby back ribs with side of fries, Cole slaw, and Texas toast. Not a huge amount of meat on the baby back ribs but it was very good. The Cole slaw wasn't super thick and creamy, and leaned more toward a vinegar base. The fries had a nice seasoning. We didn't love the BBQ sauces offered on the table, but that is such an individual preference that it didn't make us take any stars off. Plus, the meat had so much flavor it didn't even need sauce. Our waitress was Abby B and she was great. Told us as soon as she came to the table what they were out of so we could order right away. She was friendly & attentive but not annoyingly over attentive. She checked back on us multiple times to make sure we were good and had what we needed. A little pricey, but the flavor and freshness justified the cost. We already said we are planning to come back twice a year or so. Worth the drive to check it out if you are in the mood for tender BBQ with great flavor and friendly service.
Easily my favorite BBQ place I've ever been to in Iowa. If you haven't been here you have to try it, and if you have you know exactly what I mean
Great food! Great atmosphere! Great Ervice and Friendly Waitress! Highly recommend and next time I'm in the area, I'll be stopping and recommending to anyone who loves smoked meat.
It was OK Bar-B-Q, they were very busy when we visited. The service was slow, possibly due to short staffing, if your looking for an ok meal this is your place. Just not what I expected with all the great reviews that I read, I thought it was going be amazing, but no.
You better get there early if you wanna get a table and food. Rated #1 the bbq restaurant in the area so you have to try it. Got the pit master plate with brisket, cornbread, Mac n cheese, and cheesy potatoes. Perfectly cooked and lots of flavor. Go there!
I have always enjoyed stopping in for a drink and a quick bite to eat when in the area as the atmosphere and food are very nice. A couple days ago I took a friend who hadn't been there before and had heard a lot of good things. I had told him most of my experiences in previous years had been 5/5 across the board food/drink/prices/atmosphere/people. This stop for dinner however was very disappointing. The food was good as always but portions I feel were smaller compared to previous times there and prices weren't exactly friendly. A few 12oz local brews at $9/piece plus the daily special was just a little shy of $40 for each meal ticket. My friend couldn't believe it. On top of that we were practically eaten alive by bugs. It's nice to have the doors open for the patio experience but its hard to enjoy dinner when you're picking bugs out of your food and drink. All in all my friend liked the BBQ but said he wouldn't come back. If i were to come back, I'd get my meal to go.
