Whiskey River Ankeny

Good food. More of a bar atmosphere than a restaurant atmosphere. Our waitress was very nice and our food came out quickly. Try the onion rings.:)

Cool atmosphere, lots of beers and even more whiskeys. Staff was great, only downside is they turned the jukebox so loud we could barely hear each other talk. Great food as well. Will definitely go back if I visit again

I ordered some food and got the mac and cheese. Menu said it was supposed to come with a salad and I never received that. After the food came, server never came and asked how it was and when he did I was finished. I left a piece of bone on the side and mentioned thats what it was and that I have been a server and that is not okay. He said sorry and took my plate away. Not the way to approach that at all. Poor food and poor service! Not ever going back!

They had delicious food, but our server was not very knowledgeable about gluten free options, and wasn’t willing to check with the chef or a manager, so it was a guessing game. She wasn’t very attentive. Really happy they have such great burgers and gluten free buns, and the fries were great.

I wanted to give a five star review but the service was too poor.
They had a great selection of whiskey. The atmosphere was great. The manager was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was very very good. But the service was really bad. I think it is just the structure of the operation: We didn’t have anyone assigned to our table. So even though there were lots and lots of servers milling about, none of them helped us. We had to ask for help by flagging down people passing our table at least six times. I really hope they fix this, because otherwise the place is perfect

Came here on a Saturday night with intentions of finding my next ex wife, after several hours of hitting on women (young and old) and having several drinks poured on me, I was roughly thrown out. Best night ever! Ps: Will be returning once the restraining order is up!

Our server was very nice and kept our drinks full. I had a Reuben and it was great. The cheese sticks are EXTREMELY overpriced. The tenderloin was nothing but over fried breading. It was pounded out so much there was no actual meat to enjoy, such a disappointment. My husband had the pot roast sandwich, he said skimpy on the meat and way too much cheese. He enjoyed the fries. Overall disappointing experience.

First time for lunch. Service was good, thin tenderloin was fried to a crisp, greasy chips were not fried long enough and the SW rolls were just plain bad.

Had a wonderful experience with both Gale and Noah as servers. Great people and a great environment. They both greeted us with hospitality and warm conversation. They definitely made a lasting experience and we will be coming back again!

Extremely disappointed.

This wasn't an issue of lack of staff or being busy and overwhelmed. This was a lack of management and the indifference of the wait staff.

Upon walking in - and standing at the front door, I approached a staff member who said sit wherever you want. It wasn't too busy so I sat at an outside table and three waitress passed by and simply looked at me. As I tried to wave at one, she simply smiled and walked by - then the others just looked as if to figure out who wanted to actually work. No manager or anybody to provide the clearly confused and indifferent waitstaff any guidance.

I won't return and now see why the previous low reviews.

This place is super chill. Great food and great atmosphere! The food is huge portions so worth the money! The person I assumed to be the manager walked around to every table making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Wish they had more than one pool table but otherwise the place was awesome.

Food was good at first the waitresses wasn't very friendly and then I had to listen to rap music three quarters of the time which is not my favorite music and I don't think it is appropriate if there were kids in there eating with their families

Music is extremely too loud. Bartenders are more concerned with their social lives, phones and friends than customers. Difficult to order due to blaring music in a relatively empty bar. I go to EDM festivals, clubs, bars, etc and never have seen a place turn up the volume so loud on a Tuesday while empty. About six guests complained and it was completely ignored. The kitchen is actually good but the front of the house killed it for me.

Food and service were great. Had the fish tacos, fried pickles and potato chips. Definitely recommend!

I was hesitant to try Whisky river because the people that recommended it, where always wasted when they have eaten there. Most the time their drunk recommendations are end up being over priced mediocre food. I was very surprised at how good it was.

We were looking for a great burger & a beer and Whiskey River was way below average tonight!
When we walked in, the music was blarring so loud, we couldn't hear each other talkk, much less hear our server when he finally arrived at our table. We ordered a beer and a cocktail, plus waters, of which the server forgot twice. We ordered an appetizer and two burgers. After 35 minutes, yes, I timed it, everything came out at once. The pepperjack cheese balls were great, the burgers were tasteless and bland. We had cottage cheese as a side and it was warm! Not a great food night, with the service even worse with the place maybe, 1/3 full. Oh yes, the door to the patio was open, maybe for the convenience of the servers? Anyway, the fkies inside were less than desirable to say the least. It will be sometime before we return, if ever.
