We went during Black History month, so the admission was free. It was good to see how things were back in the day and to see how we have evolved. Wonderful family outing.

I really enjoyed this beautiful museum. It was wonderful seeing kids there learning, and there was a tremendous amount of information. Very enjoyable, and the employees/volunteers were lovely. The Jazz Walk of Fame is right outside.

I liked that there's a place in the states where you can actually learn about the history of jazz. The guys at the entrance were super welcoming and had a great outfit!

Small but interesting museum about the history of jazz, especially as it relates to Kansas city.

Another great example of historical preservation. Just go. You'll love it. Takes about 90 minutes unless you listen to all the recordings they have; then give yourself 2 to 2.5 hours.

Great place to visit to learn about Jazz and the history of Jazz. I wish I would have had more time to spend there. The gift shop was fabulous too.

I didn't even make it inside the museum because the staff was so rude. Specifically, it was a white male with glasses running the gift shop.

These people make promises they don't keep. They do NOT respond to emails or voicemails and they LIE like rugs! Offered me an interview never got it Lisa you suck and are part of the problem and hired someone else.i have a funder with over $391M that I'd wanted to have them meet and another famous KCMO family that has over 300 historical jazz items but the AJM never returned her call either. Lisa Alpert. Dina Bennet and K Washington are the culprits in my opinion. Therefore if the Parks & Recs Department takes over I can see why. Meanwhile Johnson County will pick up where AJM left off. Shame on you all for being unprofessional and lacking in professional courtesy and thus another set of folk that will contribute to the AJM demise. New Bored (board) members beware.

Very small museum which highlights Louis Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald. There are also samples of their music which you can listen through headphones provided at the stations which are not sanitized between guests. It took us about 40 minutes to get through the whole thing. There is also a video that talks about the 18th and vine district in the lobby.

This was a fun stop on our trip. Caught the live jazz session in the Blue Room, which was a bonus. Staff was friendly and displays are nicely done.

While this museum is the only one in the country that totally celebrates America's true classical music called jazz and is located in the Historic community of 18th & Vine, it is heartbreaking that it still has the same exhibits when it opened Sept 5,1997. I worked there for 20 years and know that there are other collections there of notable jazz artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, for one, that could have a fabulous exhibition. After the founding director retired and now deceased, and her successor moved on, the fault lies with the board leadership and the directors that followed who were only concerned with earning a 6 figure salary and a title. Several of them were and are clueless about the importance of the music and it's legacy that put Kansas City on the world map as a tourist destination. The City of Kansas City is at fault as well. They have no pride in this Kansas City jewel even though it was built was Kansas City's tax payers money. The City is responsible for the upkeep of the building. The wood steps are worn and are badly in need of being resurfaced. Nothing has been done to them in 25 years! If you visited the museum once or even twice, believe me there is no reason to go back except to the Blue Room Jazz Club to hear the best KC established and emerging jazz artists.

If you haven't been here, make it a point on your next visit. I didn't expect to be so entertained, but my whole family enjoyed learning and EXPERIENCING jazz. You have to go! I've never been to such a wonderful hands-on museum. Totally loved it.

Very good museum with lots of historical information and interactive displays. A few of the audio units were not working well. The headphone listening stations were much better. Learned a lot. Lots of things to read on the panels.

We went on a Sunday and we were there when it opened. It was not busy at all. It is not too big. We enjoyed the opening movie about Kansas City Jazz and seeing the exibits. They have a really neat section on the elements of jazz too. We also enjoyed listening to pieces by the different musicians.
