Park Bangert Island reviews
11 Bangert Island is nice hike if you are in the area. I hike this trail quite often as it is conveniently located for me and I enjoy it each time. What is nice about it, is that it allows you to take a scenic hike in an (sub) urban area. Once you get into the trail, you feel like you are further out than you are.
It is also a relatively flat trail with few rocks, roots and obstacles. There are a couple of different loops you can take. The trails will also walk you along the Missouri river, where you can get some nice views of the river (with a little "urban" landscape and noise mixed in). Plus, it doesn't take you all day to hike it. Depending on the trail, it can take you under an hour to get a hike in.
Tip: If it has been raining the trail can get muddy, so prepare accordingly.
Again, I hike Bangert Island often, because it is convenient, works when I don't have a lot of time, and lets me feel like I am in nature. I would not say that it is necessarily a "destination" hike, but if you are near by, definitely stop and enjoy it.
New hiker here: D this trail took me an hour and I am not ashamed to say this was not “easy”. I am HOT RN.
Update- 10/17 we’ve walked it more times and are warming up to being physical. We can do the course in 35-40 minutes now.:) I am out of shape don’t mind me!
If you like single track, smooth, twisty trails through the trees, then you'll like this trail. I like how the trail is shaded by the tall trees. I also like how the trail isn't full of rocks and roots. For the most part the trail is flat with some small moguls. This is my new favorite trail in St. Louis!
Woodsy single-track trail minus elevation like most traditional trails in Missouri, right in the heart of downtown Saint Charles
The construction ruined Bangert Island, it's a disaster! All in the name of progress
I really like the trails because you can circle around and don't have to repeat a lot of the walk.
You'll see scenic views of the Missouri River, Hollywood Casino, Blanchett Memorial Bridge and more.
Recently the park management of the park changed to City of St. Charles. The signs, and benches have been removed along with a lot of trees.
They have put in a new bridge with hand rails across the creek. I guess they will be putting a lake in where they removed trees in February 2022. Right now the trees look like a big mess, but St. Charles has a path that you can still get to the island to walk or ride bikes.
I haven't ridden bikes on the trails but a lot of people do. I see people walking their dogs and kids too.
Some times there is sand you can climb down to, depending on how high the Missouri River is. There are some drop offs near the trail along the river so watch kids closely if you think they will not pay enough attention to this.
I enjoy walking through the trees in the woods. It's a pretty place. Much more city noise now that they have taken so many trees, but still enjoyable. I'm glad it exists.
Love this area for an easy hike or bike ride. Love that it follows the river. It will soon be under construction and not accessible.
A little muddy on a January morning.
I liked there was no one around (note, January morning)
Trails are a little
Confusing? We just wandered from trail to trail to trail till we got back to the trail head. Some nice views of the river and even a park bench at one spot.
Minimal parking
Fantastic views of the riverside
Can't tell you its a case of
Go & see for yourself.
I recommend it.
Come soon cause it'll be gone b4 you not it.
The Developers are encroaching. It'll be gone b4 you know it
A great spot for a quick hike through the trees. Overlook of the Missouri was so-so. Small loop guessing 1.4 miles. To the overlook and back maybe. 6 miles. No difficulty in these trails.
