Banksia - South Plaza reviews
16Great little place for breakfast/Brunch. The English errr. Australian sausage rolls are immense!
Coolest vibe in KC when it comes to something with options for breakfast or lunch
Breakfast sandwich is my favorite but the pies are tough to beat especially the beef and cheesy
Always take my parents here when they are in town
I really enjoyed my experience here on a Sunday afternoon. I had planned to eat at Chipotle across the street but they didn't have any veggies so I abandoned that idea and ended up at Banksia. I am glad I did. The B. A. T with the side salad ended up being a very uniquely tasty meal. The service and atmosphere inside was also refreshing. They have plenty of great sounding dishes on their menu too so there is probably something for everyone. I would definitely go back if I am ever in the area again.
Oh we loved the salmon salad and since we are frequent customers.they know my order. Very personable coffee shop!
We stopped for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Great atmosphere, loved all the hanging plants. Staff were sort of artfully disinterested. Not rude just not friendly. Young and hip. The pastries looked amazing and we should have had those. We went with Eggs Benedict (VERY runny with a a hollandaise that tastes nothing like hollandaise) and biscuits and gravy (a bit sweet, served in a too small bowl with no plate beneath, so everything sort if slops onto the table when you start eating). The coffee was very good. It was expensive for what it was and frankly, not very good. If we go back, we'll try the pastries.
Funny enough, my fiancee and I heard about Banksia on the flight into Kansas City from a KC resident from Australia, so when we saw it was a short walk from our hotel we made the trip.
We'd already had breakfast and ended up ordering a pan au Chocolat to split. It was still slightly warm so the chocolate inside was melty and the pastry itself was beautifully flakey and very buttery.
It wasn't too busy when we were there either, with both indoor and outdoor seating. I'd love to try the other items from the menu some day.
Previously had this place at five stars but recently the quality has taken a big hit. I love their grilled vegetable sandwich and have gotten it dozens of times. It used to be consistently really, really good. Now, it varies so much every time I order it. Sometimes it's served on stale bread - once, my jaw actually hurt by the time I was finished eating it. The portion size is sometimes super small now. Last time, they didn't put the aoili on it, and the salad it was served with had half rotten greens in it. There used to be so much care in their preparation and it was my absolute favorite vegetarian sandwich in the city, so I've been really sad lately with the change in quality.
This is closer, but I think I'll stick to the downtown location instead going forward.
KC gem of a breakfast spot, serving excellent Aussie inspired menu. Everything we tried (slide to see!) was amazing

An Australian favorite: vanilla sponge cake, with a layer of raspberry jam inside, then dipped in chocolate syrup and coated in coconut.)
ANZAC Cookie $3
(The Australian & New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) troops had their families send these cookies to them on the front line during WWI and are absolutely delicious!)
Ordered a mix of gluten free and not gluten free stuff. It came in two boxes. In their infinite wisdom they put one gluten free item and one not gluten free item together in each box. Why wouldn’t you put the gluten free stuff in one box and the glutenous in another? It’s silly to even bother marking items gluten free when items are being carelessly handled.
Love this place. The monkey bread is the best I've had. Owner and staff our extremely nice.
I order from this location constantly, and I am never, ever disappointed. This is one of the only places in the KC area where I have found food that is consistently well made, unapologetically adapted to available ingredients, and priced in a way that I can afford. Absolutely recommend getting up early for this place, even if you set an alarm for delivery so you can have their wonderful snacks while sipping tea at home with your cat, or however you choose to enjoy.
Love the atmosphere with the pothos! The lattes and pastry were average. Nice staff. There are other items I would like to try, so I’ll be returning!
Saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, so decided to try it out. Nice, clean and friendly atmosphere. Food is great. I didn't get any pastries, but definitely plan to try some on my next trip there. Water and regular coffee are self-serve. (And free!)
Great cafe and bar across from the Library. The ham and cheese croissant is amazing and everything else looks great as well. Highly recommend
Corn and Zucchini fritters were very tasty. Oven Roasted Cherry tomatoes that came with the meal were awesome also.
Ok, so usually food is so good and I’m too hungry to make a picture. My favorite is tomato soup. Best beverage is cappuccino with oat milk. Also I like the atmosphere. And every single person that works in this location was always nice to us and cared about our requests - like “no dairy” etc.p. S.just remember its open till 3 pm
