Could not have asked for a better experience. Went to the ER around 1am due to intense stomach pain. I was seen within 20 minutes of arriving. Everyone I encountered was super friendly and explained what was going on every step of the way. I was put at ease and felt very safe. Thank you, BJC!

This is by far one of the worst experiences i’ve ever had at an emergency room. I went in because i had a root canal that was failing and obviously needed to see a dentist.it was the weekend so all offices in the surrounding area were closed. My tooth was extremely infected and was sending the infections through my whole body. It was during the beginning of covid so i understand to an extent why I was treated this way but they took me into a room and treated me for nothing other than someone who may have covid. The female doctor is most likely a sadist also. When giving me the test she basically poked out my brain and joked that she had a grown man try to swing on her because it hurt so bad. YEA YOU FORCED THAT THING INTO MY NOSE AND TWISTED IT UNTIL BOTH OF MY SINUS PALLUPS BUSTED AND BLED IN MY NOSE.i have had 5 tests done by medical professionals since then and no one has EVER twisted the stick around my nose that way. She said it was completely normal…. So after finding out i was negative for covid, then did they decide to take a look at my swollen face and missing tooth. I had asked to have other testing done because the infection was so bad it had hit my blood stream making me extremely ill. She pretty much refused once they knew i wasn’t covid positive.gave me antibiotics and sent me on my way. It was extremely obvious that i had a tooth infected and i understand there were precautions put into play but why treat someone so violent and with such carelessness.to this day my ENT is angry at the damage they caused my sinuses.and if something isn’t fitting into someone’s nose, probably don’t force it because you will forever have sinus issues when sadistic people are acting as “doctors”

I take reviews seriously so here goes- I waited 6 hours and was never treated for acute pain issue, finally left after 6 hours because being in waiting room was making it worse. Note: this was on Monday afternoon during a period in which no ambulance arrived only occasional walk-ins. No system for communicating when you will be seen, no disclosure of the triage priority results, and only after pressing hard to get someone to come out and tell you something, would you even learn that others have waited 6 1/2 hours before being seen, and still not told whether it’s gonna be another one hour or three or six hours. Definitely not told that it could be six hours when we arrived, as an urgent care center had a 45 minute wait and we could’ve gone there. No process to allow people to stay in their cars and be called to avoid being around Covid patients. No process to see anyone for a quick injection, drug, or other Issues that requires urgency but not necessarily an ER doctor. No effort to solve quick problems quickly.

If the response to this review is that this is how all hospitals are, then BJC medical still needs to hire someone who understands efficiency management, and implement just a few patient oriented procedures that would save everyone time and money and maybe provide health care better too. Please let’s not blame this on regulations, health insurance, or under staffing. Simple management and procedures would get far more done with the same amount of staff than the complete waste of time I saw in that emergency room. I feel sorry for the staff people operating under such horrible circumstances, but it’s clear to me they have become numb to it and now just think that six hours is normal and must be acceptable because they aren’t in charge.

I came to the ER with severe neck pain. The staff was very nice and thorough. The process was streamlined.
Dr. Liss was fantastic. I felt heard and cared for. I left with a plan to fix my neck condition. This was the most efficient ER visit I have had.
I hope I never need to go to an emergency room again, but if I do, I’ll go to BJC West.

Front desk, Front desk, Front desk - Horrible horrible horrible. Close down the Barnes Jewish West Emergency Room and replace it with a Seven-Eleven. I told the front desk that I came in due to a fever of 99.9 a cough, and an oximeter of 94% and a pulse of 107. He, the guy at the front desk, typed in my chart that my reason for visiting the ER was "a cough". He made me appear to be a low priority patient. But, due to the fever that I reported to him, he told me that I could only sit in the section designated for patients with fever and COVID. Due to him typing "cough" in my registration chart which made me a low priority patient, I sat in the section had 2-patients with positive COVID tests from 8: 00PM on Tuesday night until 3: 00AM on Wednesday morning. I have had COPD and asthma for many years. I should not have been seated near patients who tested positive for COVID for 7-hours. CLOSE DOWN THE ER and put up a Seven-Eleven because the negative reviews that Barnes Jewish West Emergency Room has online have not changed anything. Dr. Richard Tao and his nursing staff were excellent.

This ER saved my son's life last year. He was 12 months old at the time and experiencing his first asthma attack. We went to this ER in the middle of the night, by the time we got there he was blue and vomiting. They had to use adult sized equipment and accommodated to make it work. They got him stabilized and an ambulance called to transport him to St Louis Children's Hospital. I will forever be grateful for the staff that worked so quickly and handled us so compassionately as we panicked. They are life savers!

Fantastic facility from
The ER to radiology to the floor nurses! This hospital is special and the best kept secret in STL! They are caring for my daughter and the ER Doctor, Hospitalist and GI team are the best practitioners in the area! Don’t let their small size fool you! They are amazing!

Staff was friendly enough, and they got me into a room quickly, but I was given a covid and flu test, put in a room, and told by the doctor that they would bring me ibuprofen as I was in a lot of pain. I told them during check in that my boyfriend just had a confirmed Flu A test, and that I probably needed fluids, just like he had 2 days before, and also that I have lupus, which puts me at higher risk for complications.over an hour later, I still had no test results OR ibuprofen, and no fluids. No one had been back to check on me or anything.even though as far as I could tell, there was maybe one other patient there.so I left, because I can be miserable at home, while being able to take ibuprofen and drink fluids. They agreed when I asked them to call in tamaflu if the test wad positive. I have heard nothing, and just tried to use the activation code I was given for the online portal, but it says the info I entered is invalid. So note I get to go to Terry another er to get a test so I can get meds and test results so I don't lose my job tomorrow when I can't go in to work.

The front desk personnel were extremely rude and slow. They did not care the emergency situation they are dealing with. The lady was telling my wife who had panic attack that you are breathing so you are fine!

Front desk was very rude when i brought my mom in to get checked. They told me I had to leave with a lot of attitude and I was very offended as my mom's English is subpar and I was concerned with her being able to communicated effectively her symptoms and understand directions from the doctor or nurses. My mom get a Covid test done there and was told by the doctor or nurse that she would hear back in 1-2 days.the paperwork says that the results would be finalized in 3-5 days on mychart. Which I've tried to sign up with the activation code given, and was unable to. I did double and triple checked the information I put in. So after calling the ER front desk as it was the only number given to us as a point of contact, all 4 of the people I've talked to had forwarded me to a number that does not pick up. One told me that it would take 5 business days to hear back about the results, one told me it will take 10 days, one told me that if her test was negative then we were low priority and might not hear back soon. I've left my number for the number I was forwarded to to call me back on and have yet to hear back from them. So overall, very very displeased with my experience and am dreading having to deal with them more to get my mother's test results back because they just do not seem to know how their own system works.

Worst ER I have ever been in. My 94 year old father has been in waiting room for almost 4 hours in pain without being seen by a doctor.

Terrible staff long wait while they sit around talking socially with EMS group. Only one dr. We were there an hour and still not seen just left sitting in one of the rooms. There was only 2 others there. We got up and left because my husband had his chemo treatment scheduled next door. Staff was the rudest I have ever experienced. This is when you say people like that have no business being in healthcare. What a disgrace I wanted to give zero stars because they don’t deserve any but it would not allow that.
