Burgher Haus, California MO

Ate there for dinner tonight. Tried the buffet never again. People sticking their hands in to get the chips out of the container. I let the cashier know and he just laughed and didn't change them out. Trash was so full you had to stick almost your entire hand in it to dump your plate in it. Rolls were as hard as a rock huge 1/3 of ham setting there not slices so you could get a slice. Food in the containers had a nasty film over them they had not been changed out for who knows how long. Very disappointed never again. A lot of employees not sure what they were there for other than having a good Ole time hanging out! Would have given zero stars but I had to in order to leave a review

I very much enjoyed my experience with Burger Haus. I was in California for a job interview and had passed this restaurant before so I gave it a shot. The prices were very good. I got the 6.99 mushroom Swiss Jr value menu. I’m a guy that enjoys food and can easily down 3 mcchickens but this burger was very filling without even looking massive. It had great taste including the bun which was a whole lot better than any chain. My only complaint was that my crab salad had a salty taste. However, just a fact that they had it as an option is thinking out of the fry box. The service was fantastic. The girl running the window did not know I was there at first. She honestly did not keep me waiting very long but apologized profusely for keeping me waiting. She referred to me as sir and was very well mannered and courteous. I wish I had gotten her name for recognition. I remember she was in a polar plunge hoodie. She was extremely sweet. Her attitude alone would make me come back.

We spent $50 on food and the mushrooms were smashed and soggy, both ribeye sandwiches were soggy and had only the steak on them. Just steak and bread. The frisco burger only had two small pieces of dried up meat on it and the kids chicken tenders were so tough that he couldn’t even eat them. Waste of money won’t happen again. Best part of the meal were the drinks.

There were flies at the buffet. The food looks like it's been sitting for a while. The salad was decent, but the hot food was not good. Rolls should not be like crackers, and mashed potatoes should not be crunchy! I would not go again nor would I recommend going. No one bussed the tables.

Wasn’t very happy. Ordered cheese fries and jalapeño poppers…. Waited in the drive through for over half an hour. The fries were old and soggy by the time I’d gotten them and the cheese was obviously microwaved onto the fries…. (it was cooked, bubbled, and hard on the side of the plastic container)

The biscuits and gravy were outstanding, but the girl taking orders forgot to give our order to the kitchen leading to a long wait.

Lack luster to say the least. I ordered 2 PC fish, they brought chicken! And the girl looked at me like i was nuts.like I dont know what i ordered! Husband ordered ribeye (medium) he got well done! Got to the table, I had to clean it off with napkins and water from soda machine. The floors.disgusting! Food on floor, sticky and just plain gross. By the way No A1sauce either. Flies everywhere. Has gone downhill big time.

My friend and I went there last Friday 9/30/22, the food was pretty good, the fish was excellent, the chicken was kinda bland, the ham was really good. Service wasn’t bad, the issue that him and i both noticed was the amount of flies, it is terrible, this was not the fist time seeing this issue. Definitely need to get that under control.

A small business with good food and they don't sell alcohol. My favorite is the ham egg and cheese biscuit. Simple and delicious. The burger with the thousand island style dressing is very tasty as well.

Awesome buffet food and their menu items are good as well. Their fried chicken and burgers are some of the best. We have eaten here for years.

Good food, great burgers and nice customer service from employees and the manager. Only recommendation is to pay more attention to the buffet. It needs attention constantly. Thank you for the food!

Food was amazing! We discovered this gem coming back from the Ozarks, wish I didn't lol I crave they're food every day. Best burgers, great steak, fantastic sides, awesome salad bar, yes I'm in love with burgher haus!

When you order a burger now you don't know if it'll be as thin as paper or actually worth paying for. They give the smallest patties when ordering a hamburger but if you get a cheeseburger they give you a thicker pattie. Make it make sense.

Grandparents lived in California when they were still alive. I have visited the restaurant on numerous occasions. Have been reading some recent reviews some good, some bad. My response to low reviews, mention the issue to the staff, most likely they will correct it on the spot. If not, ask to see a manager or the owner, almost guarantee they will fix the issue. For the 2-3 stars, most seem to revolve around seasoning on beans, corn, etc. If you take two seconds to understand what a buffet is all about you will realize that the food is for many different people with many different tastes. Maybe one customer has a condition that prevents them from having salt, another may not like pepper? About any buffet I have ever been to is a "season to taste" for this very reason! For the 4 & 5 star, you guys experienced how the restaurant has been functioning for over 30 years. From the time it started as the local mom and pop hamburger stand with very minimal seating, then expanded and offering the buffet to give the town that family type restaurant that it is today. (At that time, the town didn't have this option).
Since my grandparents aren't with us and I don't get to California hardly at all anymore, things may have changed some. Used to be that all the town folk understood it was a "family" place with a fast food side. I have witnessed patrons serve coffee, take an empty plate, or just welcome a face they didn't recognize.
This was small town Missouri at its best.

I recently got to go in and have lunch when my son had a break during the day due to the baseball tournament schedule in Columbia area. He was wearing a shirt from his High School (KC area), someone asked where that was as it only had the high school name and no town on it. We ended up talking to the guy that asked and some friends he had with him for quite a while.

Bet most can't get that kind of atmosphere at the large chain fast food or restaurants!

For clarity, I know the family that owns the establishment quite well and know they will go out of their way to make your experience what it should be. It is now in the hands of the second generation so things are likely to change somewhat. New ideas might bring better experiences and some ideas not all will like.

Reach out. I am certain they would like to hear all the good or bad experiences to know what they are doing well and what they need to look at for improvement. Since the Covid issue I know they have not raised prices to the consumer as much as the suppliers have raised on them. They feel like they can absorb some of the storm to keep customers happy and coming back!

Burgher Haus has been a stable in the community for decades, employed many high school students, taught the treat you like family ideals instead of the run 'em in and out like many competitive fast food chains.

The quality of the food on the buffet seems to have diminished as of late. This evening the chicken was way overcooked in that it was tough and dry and the breading was so crispy it was hard to chew. The best part of the buffet was the salad bar. The macaroni and cheese if you could call it that was absolutely tasteless. My husband enjoyed the ice cream. We were there Thursday evening July 28th.

Had 2 ribeye dinners both medium I sat over 30 min waiting and when I got home and opened up the cartons both steaks were black and very well done and tough I am very disappointed especially considering the price. We eat here often and it's always good with friendly service just decided to try the steak. But it will not keep us from coming back.

I mean, I am hard to please. We had an appointment in California, and husband wanted to pick up something from the fast food acriss the street. I said, no, for the money, let's go over there and sit down. Everything is perfect! Down home atmosphere, great staff, and the food! So good! We WILL be back!

One star for nice employees and one star for a clean bathroom that’s all! The food at the buffet isn’t great they need more toppings for nachos and the ground beef is nasty and the cheese is the nasty nacho cheese ever!

This place has good home made food and great service. The food is always perfectly cooked. And the price is fair, I would definitely recommend.

Lack luster service but with a smile. Chaotic setup inside the restaurant. Burgers had good flavor but presentation was weak and bacon very under cooked. Loaded fries came with whole strips of bacon and drowned in what tasted like a cheese flavored cornstarch and water mix.

I have worked in food service for 27 years. I chose to eat at burger haus because I expected it to be made fresh. I was not expecting a "big restaurant" experience. What I expected was to be served food that was fully cooked and wouldn't cause me to violently vomit 10 hours later. I expected a "loaded French fry" to be more than whole strips of 1/2 cooked bacon and nasty, either canned or powdered cheese sauce. I spent $30 on lunch for 3 and one of us to have kept it down overnight. So I paid $30 for 1 person to eat really. I will not be back and will warn those I know to beware the awful food you serve.
