Char Steakhouse and Oyster Bar, Springfield MO

What should have been a great experience was ruined by the Events Coordinator at Char. My husband had been diligent in communicating with the Events Coordinator as we were coming from out of town and could not meet in person. We made her aware that we needed several vegetarian meals and that the time we would be arriving would be about an hour range. She assured us that this was no issue and they'd be ready for us.

Imagine our surprise when we arrived for our rehearsal dinner and the host wasn't even aware we were coming. They finally let us upstairs to find that none of the decor we had dropped off was setup. The last straw was when it took over an hour for us to get food - and the "vegetarian dish" that was supposed to be stuff mushrooms turned out to be mac and cheese.

The only reason they get 2 stars is because of the great bartenders who were extremely apologetic for their restaurant's shortcomings.

This is the most beautiful place with the best staff.the food was beyond compare.fabulous.cant wait to go back.

Gabrielle was our waitress & she took the best care of us for several hours while we celebrated a good friend. I highly recommend the bacon wrapped dates. Never heard of this combo before & wasn't super excited to try it, but they were amazing! The owner, Mark is fantastic also. Treated us like family!

I give 10 stars, lol, place is amazing, the waiter (Collin) was wonderful and helpful and very knowledgeable, and the service was quick, and the place is beautiful and elegant, and now the food, is was the best steaks and food in general, we walked out with drinks and all for around 400.00 but that was 2 steaks 190.00 for the steaks alone.but well worth it

Our first time at Char and we loved it! The server was perfect, experienced and made us feel super special, Bravo!

Wonderful food and service was extraordinary. Seated in the Mezzanine and enjoyed the cozy ambiance.

This was one of the best experiences of my life. The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic. I am not a wine person, so I just asked for samples that paired well with my order, and they were spot on. Knowledgeable staff really made this experience truly special. I will go here again and recommend it to anyone who has never had this type of fine dining to give it a try at least once.

First time trying it. We have been to Flame before and wanted to try Char. I'm definitely not disappointed. The food was excellent, the server Michael was excellent.

Not Impressed.

After dining at Flame multiple times I was excited to try Char. I expected the same quality as Flame with a different twist. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my meal.

My steak was true to the restaurants name and was burned to a crisp. The inside was cooked beautifully but the outside of the steak was charred to the point that the crust was flaking and falling apart. I could not taste the actual meat of the steak because of the burned and overwhelmingly bitter char.

My side of potatoes was also overcooked and dry. Individual pieces of the potato were completely blackened and also bitter and tasteless.

Someone else at my table ordered the tomahawk which they let me sample. The steak did not really have any flavor at all, it was just another piece of meat.

The escargot was not as good as it is at Flame and the beef tartare was not as good as it is at Flame.

The upside of the food were the oysters. They were quite good, probably because they were not touched by the chefs.

Also, the service was really good. It was my birthday and the waitress was very attentive to the tables needs.

I did not send any food back because I honestly just thought they must cook the steak like that at Char. It was not until I looked at the picture reviews on here when I saw how the steaks normally look.

Had an amazing 5 course meal. Tried some new dishes and was pleased with everything. Our waitress was tremendous she was aware of my food allergies and made sure every dish was safe for me to eat. She was very attentive to our table. This is going to be our go-to spot every time we are in town.

This has been the most amazing night ever. I have only been in Springfield forever. 9 days now lol. I'm ready to go home. However, I found myself in this establishment and I saw the dollar signs. Hey, it was pretty expensive. However, my god is good. My Olivia grandstand waitressing she understood the assignment and was a blessing from her greeting to her. Smile to her patience with my questions and then to go above and beyond to make sure my order was done correctly. My next kudos goes out to the manager Owen. Owen is awesome. He was training as well as teaching and also gave me the drink that they were trying to teach. How to make it was awesome. I love it. He is a great person for this job. Very people person did everything like a manager would do with his employees. No wonder they love him to pieces. Jason the bartender. Awesome! Made me a sex on the beach and I'll tell you it is phenomenal. Can't say more about it. He put his work into this even though that is his work hahaha. Jason's great! His new sidekick new bartender/ form or waiter Reese was awesome too. He made me a strawberry Moscow mule and literally tasted like a strawberry limeade gray job newbie. I will definitely be back and bring people with my comeback. You guys are awesome! From the door coming in and going out you guys have totally worn my heart over. See you guys soon. Thanks for all the love, hospitality and fun. It was great!
Oh my god how can I forget about the oysters which is what I came for the oysters. Oh my god, I have a new love place to eat my oysters. I had to try them all, and they did not disappoint. They're only a three hour drive away like but I'll be back.

Best steak of my life! Went here for mine and my wife's 15th wedding anniversary. Nice atmosphere, great food, pricey but special occasion. Everything we had from the drinks, oysters, desert and especially the steaks was great! Highly recommended the Del Monico Ribeye.

Char is a pretty cool place! The exterior is beautiful as it looks like the building was plucked from New Orleans and placed right in Springfield. I like that there are always people there to open the door for you as it makes it feel upscale and welcoming.

I ordered the escargot as my appetizer, and my god, the size of that thing made my jaw drop. The escargot comes in a sourdough bowl and it’s mixed with bacon and mushrooms. It’s so very flavorful! I appreciate that it came with a large slice of lemon to help give it some brightness. I really enjoyed it, but I couldn’t finish it as I was saving space for the steak. That thing was a meal in its own right!

For the entree, I ordered the delmonico steak, which was 20oz. I ordered the lyonnaise potatoes as the side, which came with the steak. However, I barely ate the potatoes due to the sheer size of that steak! I did try some of the potatoes, though as many of the reviews I read were raving about them. They tasted good! The sauces complimented the potatoes well.
As for my steak, I was blown away by how great it tasted! I asked for medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. It was juicy and tender. I’m happy that the steak was served without any sauces poured all over it, as the steak was able to shine on its own, as it should. I didn’t have time to try the dessert, but I definitely will next time I go to Char. I was very impressed with the food I ordered.

Fun sense of humor waiter! Food was good. A bit too salty for my liking, but was still enjoyable. I had: Beef Meatballs & Mushrooms; Escargot (but has bacon so I could not eat it due to my bummer pork intolerance/sensitivity) : Ceasar Salad Salmon Oscar.

This is one of the best fine dining restaurants in the 417. Our server Michael and head chef Jeremy were over the top amazing. Michael being the utmost professional waiter I’ve ever experienced. The black truffle mac and cheese and lobster bisque nearly brought me to tears and the silver (?) steak had my boyfriend eyes-closed for a solid minute! Not to mention the blueberry cheesecake! 10/10 experience

Amazing food with even better service. A wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a nice meal. Shout out to our server Michael and the rest of the crew at Char.

The restaurant and bar is amazing along with the customer service that you receive. However when we were sat at least 10 minutes after our reservation, with no concern to us because we enjoyed the bar atmosphere.we did have to flag down the waiter to get our drink orders but after that Michael was amazing! The food is fantastic! Due to a mechanical error with the kitten we did have to wait almost 2hrs for our food. Justin bought our food for us! Amazing place that does what is right. That have a high standard that they plan to achieve.
